It's not just Serral's play. He's tough as nails mentally coming back from 0-2 and 2-3 with everything on the line and no room for one misstep. He's a machine...
Zerg OP, you just don't make serious mistake and win, whereas Protoss has to land every ability perfectly in order to win, besides protoss defense is a joke compares to terran and huge lacks of mobility compare to zerg, that's why keeping your 3rd or 4th expansion as a protoss is extremely hard compare to terran and zerg. Zerg just keep expanding and can deploy units to defend very quick bc of creep, when protoss tries to go out to clears creep, 3rd and 4th expands are very vulnerable, if don't clear creep, zerg can easily gangrape on creep. Terran can harrass really well bc of medvacs while keeping their base safe, that's why there's less diamond, master and plat protoss than other races.
I follow starcraft 2 scene since WoL, and i never seen the level so high, congratulation to both players in final i have passed a great moment, thanks ;)
Doesn't matter what you compete in - Starcraft, UFC, Basketball.. if you ever see those eyes of stonecold, focused determination 41:05 from a player, you know that player is winning!
Serral's macro really won him the series. Even trading badly in many engagements his econ was just too strong for Stats. A few months ago I never would have thought a non Korean could be #1 in the world. Serral's rise has been amazing and I really want to see him defend his title.
i was trying to not spoil it... came to comments to see when game 5 began, and was spoiled by you blame the people who upvoted and put this comment at the top, as well.
Eminem was at one point considered the best rapper in the game. Lyrically, if you drop his obsession wit insulting his ex wife and his mother, he was above and beyond his competition.
But we're considering the set in general, so no. He's good, really good, but I don't think he's the best rapper. I would choose 2pack not only for his letter, but also for his actions.
Can't even describe the feeling watching these series as a "Finlander". So proud of Serral. Honor and respect is everything here as in South Korea too. Have been playing Starcraft since it came out in 1998.
In time you will know what it's like to lose, to feel so desperately that you're more skilled and to fail all the same Dread it Run from it Serral still arrives
Yes, but for once, a non-KR player can finally be mentioned on an equal level with the best of the best. You can say that Serral can beat Maru in a Bo5 series, and it won't sound ridiculous at all. That itself is an amazing accomplishment.
In sc2 players have to prove themselves in every matchup against a variety of players. Even if Serral won 8 out of 10 times against Maru but 1 to 10 against most of the pro scene he would be rated pretty bad overall. The most accurate way to rate players is to compare the tournament results within a certain period of time where the same pool of playrs are facing each others. As for "undisputed champion" there can't really be one in this game, it cannot be compared to sports like boxing or 100 m sprint where someone can truly stay undefeated for a long time.
Absolutely amazing tournament in terms great of skill of players, top notch commentary, atmosphere in the studio and a great story overall. Also loved that all of it happened in a length of a few days. If I wanted someone to get interested in starcraft I would make them watch this. The amount of goosebumps and nerd-chills I got while watching was outrageous. THAT. WAS. EXTRAORDINARY.
Best foreign player by far and it shows. He is competitive with the very best even in Korea! One tournament doesn't say everything but he actually looked BETTER than the Korean pros this tournament. Gotta remember Stats did have one cannon rush game which, while not taking anything away from the amazing Protoss that is Stats, was a bit of an easier win than the rest. Life is my all time favorite Zerg and I believe the best player of all time, however I'm always hopeful to discover his successor. Players like Reynor and Serral make me hopeful for the new talent. :)
49:00 the korean guy talked so much that serral thought he was insulting him or something 😂 and the translator only said "congrats serral how to you feel"
He said 'While GSL dominated starcraft, we were looking forward to seeing a new superstar in foreign country. And Serral washed all Korean players known as the best in the world before. Congrats Serral how to you feel!' This is rough translation with my bad english.
Stephanos prime was in the bl infestor era, and he was also very good at the fast roach max, pretty much invented it for high level gaming. Don´t know what you´re talking about. Sure Stephano abused swarmhosts hard for a while, but that was well after his prime. And i think Serral has not yet dethroned Stephano as Goat, even though he is pretty close and i think he will eventually. Stephano still played and won more tournaments against high level korean pros. Neither won a GSL. It´s very hard to compare region-lock and pre-region-lock though.
@@BarakZero serral is mechanically better than stephano by MILES. These koreans now are the highest level since they have figured out at least 80% of sc2 compare to whatever it was years ago. jack90054 bo1 but still late game and it was all most whole game looking like Serral is winning and he made only one mistake when he lost one of his vipers.
Julio César Corral yup. I think we can say he is top of the top and he won 3:0 against Inno and 3:1, 4:3 Stats and bo1 Maru(it was late game but still), 3 WCS in row and is totaly dominating Non-korea but I think that if we want to call him best he must stay in Korea for few GSLs
Snoopy8613 Maru has 2 GSL, WESG and Proleague titles? I'm not saying Serral is bad because I would be utterly lying, but Serral is not the best in the world, Maru is at this moment.
This might be the best series I've ever seen. Game 5 in particular was just jaw-dropping. Serral was absolutely relentless in his aggression, but somehow Stats held it off at every turn. It was fucking mesmerizing. Both of these guys are Gods, but I'm pretty stoked to see Serral take it home. Starcraft just keeps getting better...
It's crazy how fast Serral can pump out large armies. Now that he is on top. The real challenge comes. Can he remain on top for a long time? I think he can. South Korea has finally fallen. SC2 is now change forever.
We'll see if the Koreans will be as easy when there is MONEY on the line and not just honor. I'll be way more impressed if he makes the finals of blizzcon.
Not yet. This is not WCS world championship: the one tournament every single sc2 progamer wants. That's when he'll face the full wrath of korean scene. To be honest, i think he has a shot. I'm so rooting for serral
Rewatching this for no real reason and while I don't remember much, all my memories of watching this just rushed back to me, the surround in game 5 was one of the most memorable things I saw back then.
Wow very impressive.. and good thing i did not read the comment section otherwise i would have known who won because of spoilers. Really Amazing. New King of StarCraft is not a Korean Player but a European Player in the name of Serral. Congratulations
Whoaaaa what a set! The SC2 scene is just so incredible right now and there's only 70k people to enjoy a final like this! :( Amazing set of 7, feels like it could have gone either way. Both players playing their damn hearts out.
Congrats Serral! Incredible run, tough games needing to go through innovation, dark and stats, and you didn't get lucky, you played so great. I've been a huge fan of yours since about mid last year,I remember when Elazer was asked who he doesn't want to go up against In a tournament and he said "both Neeb and Nerchio are very strong, but I do not wanna go up against Serral…. Serral's scary man" This was before you won any major tournaments but Since the start of this year, even late last year, you've played the best starcraft I've ever seen. The whole world is proud of you ^.^
Damn, that was impressive. The world may not have caught up, but Serral sure has. He's by far the best non-Korean, and now proved that he's as good as any player in general.
mrbdazz for f sake to be cheese means the other player just out smarted you. maru defeated stats in season 1 GSL final only by cheese. stats destroyed him in any normal game but maru was smarter and won that tournament
i mean this whole tournament.. its a total domination 3-0 vs kelazhur, 3-0 vs Innovation, 3-1 vs Dark, 1-0 vs Maru, 4-3 vs stats... he fought with one of the best if not the very best of each race on this tournament no one can argue.... if its not Domination then what??
Faisal I didn't say winning by cheese isn't still winning. Just that in normal games, Serral dominates. TBH, Serral's response in the second game (cannon rush) had some obvious mistakes and he had the full info on what's happening, so it's not even like Stats won because of luck. But it says something about the skill when others have to cheese to win a map.
I have said this before and I will state this fact again as plainly as possible, Serral is a stone cold tactical genius and is the best Zerg player on planet earth right now. Is he the best ever? I defy anyone to come up with a player that has strung together championships like Serral has, he has no rival. The key to declaring Serral the best all time zerg player is simply the quality of the opponents he has bested at seemingly every turn. The current crop of contenders are absolutely the best most innovative players ever to play the game period. It seems every championship Serral wins are tough evenly matched contests that could easily have gone either way. It seems like in the deciding games of the matches Serral is able to think a bit better execute a bit better hold a bit better attack a bit better all while performing under the most pressure filled environments. I don't care if you don't like him or if you don't think he is the best there is or will ever be and it is clear that neither does he. All he ever does is win and I think for the foreseeable future that what he is going to continue to do.
True that. This series against Stats shows that not only is Serral incredibly skillful, but he also has amazing mental fortitude. When you can calmly play your normal game on match point with the whole non-korean world pinning their hopes on you, that's pretty damn impressive. I wondered what he was thinking during the brief intermission when Stats called for a break, and it occurred to me that he probably meditates as part of his training. If I think about how his mind must be for him to continue to perform like this, clearly he's the sort of player who has unshakable confidence in his own skill. This seems to be an area where an otherwise brilliant player like Neeb is lacking. When Neeb starts getting clobbered, it seems he begins to doubt himself, and then his play often falls apart. With Serral, it's more like he tells himself--"Oh right, I forgot that I need to be _perfect_ to beat these other monsters. I'll do that then." Goddamn I love watching this dude tear up the competition.
Truly a champion is the greater for the challenges they faced. A Serral had to come, with the entire world vying for S. Korea's position. But even the world can never truly achieve what South Korea did, a tiny nation reigning unopposed for over a decade. Let us never forget what they achieved so we better know what we have achieved.
So intense! Can anyone tell me why they have headphones on under their headsets? do they have someone in their ear advising? or is it just noise cancellation. Or something else?
There has been some very good non-Korean SC players that shone in certain metas with certain builds, like Stephano, but Serral seems like the most complete non-Korean player ever. There is this mental barrier that all players must overcome, one that even Maru used to toss all the time in previous years. Now Serral broke that barrier for himself. Now things will get even more interesting in SC scene!
O. M. G. These guys are just on another level. I don’t think either of these guys are losers. It’s that one had to lose. This was, far and away, the best battle I’ve ever seen.
Spoiler: I feel like im watching a crucial part of e-sports history. It feels like the entire game has been revitalized now that the status quo is finally broken after 20 years. I have not paid much attention to SC2 compared to SC1 BW I will definately pay attention to SC2 now. Watching him play is exciting as watching players like flash, bisu, and JD play. Question is, why did it take 20 years for a non Korean to win a major tournament?
that's not respect. The players have to shake hands because that is the rule in the competition. There is no such thing called respect in competitions because they dont really mean it or truly feel that way towards eachother. It's more of acting and pretending like they have respect. Respect and sportmanship is as overrated as kim kardashian.
The winner of leipzig valencia austin montreal. And now he was the best against innovation dark and finally stats. There is no doubt SERRAL THE BEST IN THE WORLD.
Nah, GSL is still another caliber. Several days, even weeks, for your opponents to prepare for you. There are players that are good at preparation tournaments, and there are players that are good at improvisation (weekend) tournaments, only very few are exceptionally good at both. Serral proved he is good at the latter, but he has yet to play the first at a korean top level. I think Serral is the best player in the world at this exact moment, but we don´t know which flaws some korean top players can find in Serrals game when they really prepare for him for a long time. The mindgames in a Bo5+ series reach yet another level. (Why are Boxer and Yellow coming to my mind)
It's not just Serral's play. He's tough as nails mentally coming back from 0-2 and 2-3 with everything on the line and no room for one misstep. He's a machine...
his emotions are on par with innovation xD 10101010
I like turtles!
The last game was a freewin though.
Don't forget Neeb winning GSL.
Neeb didn't win a GSL, that was kespa cup
Actually thats the Key about Zerg ;-) Protoss and Terran units are stronger over all. The key of zerg is using ur macro to compensate that.
Fair enough, if macro is your strong suit, Zerg is probably the best race to play.
This aged very well.

I'll do that then."
Goddamn I love watching this dude tear up the competition.
Non korean ! Wow Gsl vs Serral
44:50 Serral friendly-fires at his own drone with his queens during adept harass :3
Stats out of breath at game 5, kinda made him nervous lol
Thank you Tastosis, Serral and Stats!!
So intense! Can anyone tell me why they have headphones on under their headsets? do they have someone in their ear advising? or is it just noise cancellation. Or something else?
what an amazing game by both players... can't wait to see how high this Finnish player will reach
No mincing about it, 7 amazing games, every type of game, the better player won.
Serral is a hero!
Congrats Serral, amazingly played!!! WOW...still cant fully believe it
There has been some very good non-Korean SC players that shone in certain metas with certain builds, like Stephano, but Serral seems like the most complete non-Korean player ever. There is this mental barrier that all players must overcome, one that even Maru used to toss all the time in previous years. Now Serral broke that barrier for himself. Now things will get even more interesting in SC scene!
Serral plays Zerg like Terran- That's new.
However, this too can be dealt with since people now know Z can be as mobile as T.
best set of casters
Serral, he is the best in the world right now, lady and gentle man! He is now my best favourite player, lady and gentle man!
His level of focus is incredible..
O. M. G. These guys are just on another level. I don’t think either of these guys are losers. It’s that one had to lose. This was, far and away, the best battle I’ve ever seen.
What is the name of the song that starts after they say fight, something with "...no king, no lord, nothing can hold me down..."
Ok, got it: Hidden Citizens ft. Vo Williams - Rise or Fall
name of song at the end?
And boys,a new god of starcraft is born
I think the music isn't loud enough
It has been done...finally! Congrats Serral!
How many times has Stats and Serral gone head to head?
Anyone know the name of the song after game 5 at 23.30??
lemme know when you find it. I'm looking too
Spoiler:
I feel like im watching a crucial part of e-sports history. It feels like the entire game has been revitalized now that the status quo is finally broken after 20 years. I have not paid much attention to SC2 compared to SC1 BW I will definately pay attention to SC2 now. Watching him play is exciting as watching players like flash, bisu, and JD play.
Question is, why did it take 20 years for a non Korean to win a major tournament?
lendial culture and investments take time. The Korean scene has seemed to always value esports and the rest of the world is catching up.
lendial ahh last year neeb wona major tournament in korea. Duhhh
Neeb won kespa cup last year.
So IEM valencia not a major?
great organization! congrats Korea and their people, greetings from europe! GO AHEAD SERRAL
Anyone know the song @ 23:30 Shazam isn't helping
Holy shit what a series! Really happy for Serral! Well done!!
What?, that's completly normal after a game in sc o:
that's not respect. The players have to shake hands because that is the rule in the competition. There is no such thing called respect in competitions because they dont really mean it or truly feel that way towards eachother. It's more of acting and pretending like they have respect. Respect and sportmanship is as overrated as kim kardashian.
DA GOAT 🐐
I love the Stats throughout this entire battle. Even though they lost, the Koreans didn’t come off that crown easy. They are worthy of the hype.
How much money does 1st win?
Greatest match in SC2 history
The winner of leipzig valencia austin montreal.
And now he was the best against innovation dark and finally stats.
There is no doubt
SERRAL THE BEST IN THE WORLD.
where is the full match?
Twitch GSL channel has it
This very channel 아프리카TV (AfreecaTV) has all the games. Just go to the videos section and you'll see Stats vs Serral Set 1 - Set 2 and Set 3 - Set 5.
Sorry the second part should have said Set 3 - Set 4.
Holy Fuck.. Serral's awareness and timing on the attacks was fkin unreal.
Does this actually count as a GSL?
LOL
Man what a great player i really didn't think Serral would get past all the players he did incredible Macro
The background music is too loud and so distracting. I wish they would just turn it off. Why even have music in there?
THIS WAS SOOO GOOD !!!
Amazing play from Serral...just wow
