I... can’t quite get over this picture. Maruki looks like he’s fed up with the world and only cares about completing his work, and Kasumi just looks dead inside. It doesn’t quite seem right given their personalities, but then again, it also fits perfectly
It somewhat fits, Maruki's looking up towards the reality he created, fed up with the unfairness of this world. Sumi feels empty, trying to remember something that was taken out of her memory, looking at an object from the past and remembering the pain that she can't quite explain.

I think that what it really means is when she takes off her glasses signifying removing the guise of Kasumi she was living under, while Maruki keeps trying to make everything ideal, staying away from reality

Maruki wears his mask, unable to see why he pursues this 'happy reality' so much, and refuses to aknowledge it's only for his own sake and not for others. Sumire takes her glasses off, removing the guise of 'Kasumi,' and accepting herself as Sumire.
Yo this mix captures both feelings of Dr. Maruki, one side he talks to you all happy during counseling and then the other side is his sadness for everything he lost. Great job👍🏼

This is absolutely wonderful. This is by far my favorite song in the Royal soundtrack. It just, brings so many emotions running through me. Especially when it’s paired for when you get the bad ending when you agree to marukis deal. It’s just, sad. But happy. It’s hard to explain. Thank you for making this.
One of the best antagonists in videogame history, it felt like the phantom thieves was the bad guys and maruki was the good guy trying to everyone be happy. I am not gonna say that maruki is a villain, because he ain't one

All I can recall from lockdown 2 years ago is playing through this game for hours on end every day. And when I finally got to the end of the game and found out that Maruki had these intentions this entire time it blew my mind. Honestly, it was the first time in a game where I struggled with choosing between "right" and "wrong". His choice felt like the right one to me, he never seemed like a villain and I can see why he wanted to create the world he did. It's just not that straightforward sometimes. Hands down one of the best antagonists of all time. Never had any ill intentions from the start.
I like how it’s kinda like those dual headphone mixes/mashups where there’s two different versions of the song, but in whichever mix is dominant in one headphone, the other is present, but subdued, kinda hidden.

I played this game a year ago and unintentionally got the true ending (I had no clue what I was doing, only thing I knew was a friend told me the counselor was important) just recently came back to it, I'm currently finishing up the 4th palace, I forgot the pain this game caused me, the ending makes my heart hurt especially knowing Billy passed now 😭💔 absolute masterpiece of a game, not perfect but damn it's a phenomenal game!

I love how this theme represents perfectly how Maruki feels, he wants to help the people by saving them from pain however, he deeply knows that what he is doing is wrong. I love Maruki's arc and that whole part of the game, I think the only moment that surpasses it is Persona 3's conclusion. Persona 5 became such an underrated game because of the gatekeepers :c

Is it something that people actually wanted? To remove pain and strife for unending happiness and falsifications? This wasn’t made by some evil mastermind and isn’t anything like The Matrix, rather it was made out of kindness by a man willing to be a martyr if that meant nobody had to suffer ever again; a good man who saw himself as Adam after loosing Eve...
The whole series is amazing, it's almost insane how it went under the radar for so many years, even the mainline series that Persona spun-off of is actually fantastic, the franchise easily became my favorite JRPGs ever.
I feel real lucky to have started getting into the Persona series with 5. Honestly the best game I've ever played hands down. I'm kinda fearful that 6 may not be as big as 5 has become but then again I said the same thing about future Smash Bros games, then they turned out to be bigger and better than the last. So here's hoping!
Thats nice to hear. I highly suggest if you can playing Persona 4 Golden if you want to explore more of tbe series, if not, the P4 anime is also a great watch. We dont talk about the p5 anime lol
Persona 4 is... definitely a video game. I liked it, but I don't even think it was all that great or even good, it just gets by on its buckets of charm and the good setting. If games like the CDI Zeldas are good bad games, then Persona 4 is a bad good game. It's definitely worth playing still.
I didn’t get to play royal yet, but persona 4 golden is for now my favorite persona game. I played a bit of fes but I never got to finish it because all of my saved data was gone. I’ll just wait and see if fes will be in released in steam also.
Wait imagine if Maruki works is completed and everyone in the world "Wishes" came true. That would mean Makoto/Minato would've been resurrected and get a second chance to live and shinjiro too.
If you agree to his offers, at the end of the credits instead of saying “fin”, it says “end”. To me this shows that in Maruki’s reality, there can be no more conflict and no more evil presence threatening the Persona universe, this showing the end of the story for all future Persona users. The true ending says “fin” which to me means that this was the end of the story for the Phantom Thieves but not for Persona users as a whole
The only question is: How would this affect the whole Erebus thing. Since no one specifically wishes Erebus to be gone, just for Minato to be out, which under normal circumstances would be the end of Erebus or Nyx. But these arnt normal circumstances. Then again Maruki would probally do some tweaking to make it so that no one wishes for death or somethin.

If Maruki grant everyone wishes it would stop all of their pain and suffering like losing a love ones, Not meeting people expectations, etc. Thats why you dont need to think about Erobus
Gonna talk about some spoilers for 3rd semester and the whole game below: I found Maruki so interesting as a character because in many ways I really admired what he attempted to do. After all, he just is trying to help people be happier and talk them through their traumas, right? That in itself is still very admirable, as is the fact that he gives Joker the chance multiple times to talk his way out of the conflict, and only uses violence as a last resort, and even during the fight itself, is still trying to deescalate the conflict. Yaldabaoth’s method of dealing with the masses? Force them into submission, make them suffer to the point that rebellion doesn’t have a desire to exist in hardly anyone. Give them a false sense of happiness in that “it would be worse if I fought back, so at least I can just exist, until everything eventually ends…” It’s the mindset Joker tries to help all his friends break free from: that rebellion against the unfairness of life perhaps *can* make things better. According to several scriptural interpretations of “Satan”, aka Lucifer after he fell from heaven, this is what Yaldabaoth wants. I should note, I’m now distinguishing between the Satan and Lucifer and Satanael and God described in Persona, versus the interpretations in real world religion. Since the scriptural Satan couldn’t convince God to use his plan, and was cast out for his rebellion against God’s plan (God’s plan being that mankind would have the chance to choose between good and evil, using their own agency, aka, the same ideal Joker fights for), Satan instead now tries to drag as many people into misery like he now is. Yaldabaoth represents Satan’s ideaologies after he fell from heaven. Yet what makes Maruki interesting, is that Maruki doesn’t represent Satan’s idealogies, as much as he does Lucifer’s ideas. Lucifer, before he was cast out for rebellion, proposed a plan alternative to God’s. God’s plan was to let mankind use their agency to choose and grow. Lucifer’s plan was to try to *guarantee* happiness for everyone, by taking away their agency, or rather, make it so they can only use it “in the right ways”. His logic was that everyone would eventually return to God and live in happiness if this was how the world operated. And, in the 3rd semester, we get a glimpse into how that world would be. A world where a few bad things happen but, for the most part, everyone is happily living; yet, they also lack progression. The Phantom Thieves reject that reality not only because “it’s not real”, but because they value what they learned and experienced in the harsher but “real” reality. Maruki gives the world a chance to live in a Garden of Eden type state: where people don’t have to worry about choices, yet also cannot truly progress or find *true* happiness. They simply float about, unable to learn, and not even completely sure they are happy, because they lack no bad experiences to counter the good. When Joker talks to them, they feel like there should be more to their lives than they currently have, but they can’t put a finger on it until they’re reminded of “what the world should be”, and even after they “wake up” they choose to stay in the harder reality because it’s ultimately better for their long term growth and happiness. In the bad end, we can see a representation of how Lucifer’s plan would essentially change the entire souls and actions of people against their will, taking away the types of things they would normally say in order to perfectly fit them into “the right” mold. We see Joker speak oddly to Sojiro, we see Akechi suddenly chummy with everyone and acting almost like the old him doesn’t exist anymore… but he didn’t have to fight for it. It was forced on him through Joker deciding not to fight back. That bad ending shows the type of world that Lucifer desired: one of perfection where everyone could get their dreams… but all accomplishments become hollow because of the lack of opposition. This is why Maruki is so fascinating. He believes the same ideals of Lucifer, that if given the power, he would take away ALL suffering, to the point that any happiness remaining is hollow, and people lose their ability to truly grow and progress. Unlike how Lucifer became angry and threw a fit when his plan was rejected tho, Maruki retains a level of dignity and ability to accept others choices even after they come to fight him. In other words, Maruki represents what Lucifer could have been, if Lucifer had known when to give up his old plan. Joker represents the agency of man kind, or God’s original plan, and Joker stands against both Lucifer and Satan’s methods of opposing that plan of agency. What Joker truly stands up for, is free will and choice. And there are ways both overt and subtle in which agency can be lost, which are illustrated by the differences between Satan and Lucifer, or Yaldabaoth and Maruki, respectively.
Exactly! What sets humans apart from animals is our moral choice and will. Our ability to feel emotions and understand them. By removing those, Maruki was taking away what makes us human. He couldn't see that a life lived under forced happiness isn't a life at all. A life without change and growth isn't what we are intended to have. What he would've created was a world where people were alive, but not living.
@@rentsukasa2860 Although he didn't intend it, Maruki was essentially turning Tokyo and the entire world into a Zoo, where everyone is trapped in a facade of happiness, unable to grow or achieve anything without his instruction or assistance. All for his own personal enjoyment and satisfaction.
It almost seems like Maruki is Kasumi's father considering we were helped her buy glasses for her father. I haven't finish the game yet but it's interesting. And Maruki so far is such a cool character.
Just finished today! What a blast it's been. 130 hours well spent! Only 3 trophies away from platinum, and I messed up the only viable saves that could've helped me get those 3 trophies easily, so I'll likely have to start all over, but oh well! I want those themes!
I have just finished today. It took my nearly 200 hours. You probably messed up Master of Akihabara trophy because this trophy requires some days spent in maid cafe and you had no enough free days. Besides, P5R trophies are preety easy to obtain much easier than in P5.

Honestly I wasnt that hype for Royal since I enjoy the SMT games more but damm...This game was worth every single hr of my day. Everything was improved and I love the new takes of the persona series. The only thing I never enjoyed was the never ending spinoffs... Instead of making spin off they should have made Royal aleast 2-3 new more palaces...Because damm that last palace and story and writing was amazing.
I was playing through Wasteland 3 yesterday and happened upon a Billy Kametz voiced random one-off character. I found my self searching for more ways to interact with this character but alas, there was not and now I'm here

I love Maruki's arc and that whole part of the game, I think the only moment that surpasses it is Persona 3's conclusion. Persona 5 became such an underrated game because of the gatekeepers :c

What's crazy too is that those are the two songs you can feel the most sadness through. Futaba's Palace and the final palace are both so somber and the songs 100% reflex that 🥲

persona 5 was the first and only persona game i played, it was the best single player game i have ever played and the tracks are all so beautiful!
The whole series is amazing, it's almost insane how it went under the radar for so many years, even the mainline series that Persona spun-off of is actually fantastic, the franchise easily became my favorite JRPGs ever.

I feel real lucky to have started getting into the Persona series with 5. Honestly the best game I've ever played hands down. I'm kinda fearful that 6 may not be as big as 5 has become but then again I said the same thing about future Smash Bros games, then they turned out to be bigger and better than the last. So here's hoping!

Persona 4 is... definitely a video game. I liked it, but I don't even think it was all that great or even good, it just gets by on its buckets of charm and the good setting. If games like the CDI Zeldas are good bad games, then Persona 4 is a bad good game. It's definitely worth playing still.
I didn’t get to play royal yet, but persona 4 golden is for now my favorite persona game. I played a bit of fes but I never got to finish it because all of my saved data was gone. I’ll just wait and see if fes will be in released in steam also.

Wait imagine if Maruki works is completed and everyone in the world "Wishes" came true. That would mean Makoto/Minato would've been resurrected and get a second chance to live and shinjiro too.
If you agree to his offers, at the end of the credits instead of saying “fin”, it says “end”. To me this shows that in Maruki’s reality, there can be no more conflict and no more evil presence threatening the Persona universe, this showing the end of the story for all future Persona users. The true ending says “fin” which to me means that this was the end of the story for the Phantom Thieves but not for Persona users as a whole

The only question is: How would this affect the whole Erebus thing. Since no one specifically wishes Erebus to be gone, just for Minato to be out, which under normal circumstances would be the end of Erebus or Nyx. But these arnt normal circumstances. Then again Maruki would probally do some tweaking to make it so that no one wishes for death or somethin.
@@Siuolplex When everyone is happy, no one would even think about death. The pain and suffering that accumulate in someone mind is the one who lead them into thinking they want death. If Maruki grant everyone wishes it would stop all of their pain and suffering like losing a love ones, Not meeting people expectations, etc. Thats why you dont need to think about Erobus

Gonna talk about some spoilers for 3rd semester and the whole game below:
I found Maruki so interesting as a character because in many ways I really admired what he attempted to do. After all, he just is trying to help people be happier and talk them through their traumas, right? That in itself is still very admirable, as is the fact that he gives Joker the chance multiple times to talk his way out of the conflict, and only uses violence as a last resort, and even during the fight itself, is still trying to deescalate the conflict.
Yaldabaoth’s method of dealing with the masses? Force them into submission, make them suffer to the point that rebellion doesn’t have a desire to exist in hardly anyone. Give them a false sense of happiness in that “it would be worse if I fought back, so at least I can just exist, until everything eventually ends…”
It’s the mindset Joker tries to help all his friends break free from: that rebellion against the unfairness of life perhaps *can* make things better. According to several scriptural interpretations of “Satan”, aka Lucifer after he fell from heaven, this is what Yaldabaoth wants. I should note, I’m now distinguishing between the Satan and Lucifer and Satanael and God described in Persona, versus the interpretations in real world religion. Since the scriptural Satan couldn’t convince God to use his plan, and was cast out for his rebellion against God’s plan (God’s plan being that mankind would have the chance to choose between good and evil, using their own agency, aka, the same ideal Joker fights for), Satan instead now tries to drag as many people into misery like he now is. Yaldabaoth represents Satan’s ideaologies after he fell from heaven.
Yet what makes Maruki interesting, is that Maruki doesn’t represent Satan’s idealogies, as much as he does Lucifer’s ideas. Lucifer, before he was cast out for rebellion, proposed a plan alternative to God’s. God’s plan was to let mankind use their agency to choose and grow. Lucifer’s plan was to try to *guarantee* happiness for everyone, by taking away their agency, or rather, make it so they can only use it “in the right ways”. His logic was that everyone would eventually return to God and live in happiness if this was how the world operated. And, in the 3rd semester, we get a glimpse into how that world would be. A world where a few bad things happen but, for the most part, everyone is happily living; yet, they also lack progression. The Phantom Thieves reject that reality not only because “it’s not real”, but because they value what they learned and experienced in the harsher but “real” reality. Maruki gives the world a chance to live in a Garden of Eden type state: where people don’t have to worry about choices, yet also cannot truly progress or find *true* happiness. They simply float about, unable to learn, and not even completely sure they are happy, because they lack no bad experiences to counter the good. When Joker talks to them, they feel like there should be more to their lives than they currently have, but they can’t put a finger on it until they’re reminded of “what the world should be”, and even after they “wake up” they choose to stay in the harder reality because it’s ultimately better for their long term growth and happiness.
In the bad end, we can see a representation of how Lucifer’s plan would essentially change the entire souls and actions of people against their will, taking away the types of things they would normally say in order to perfectly fit them into “the right” mold. We see Joker speak oddly to Sojiro, we see Akechi suddenly chummy with everyone and acting almost like the old him doesn’t exist anymore… but he didn’t have to fight for it. It was forced on him through Joker deciding not to fight back.
That bad ending shows the type of world that Lucifer desired: one of perfection where everyone could get their dreams… but all accomplishments become hollow because of the lack of opposition.
This is why Maruki is so fascinating. He believes the same ideals of Lucifer, that if given the power, he would take away ALL suffering, to the point that any happiness remaining is hollow, and people lose their ability to truly grow and progress. Unlike how Lucifer became angry and threw a fit when his plan was rejected tho, Maruki retains a level of dignity and ability to accept others choices even after they come to fight him. In other words, Maruki represents what Lucifer could have been, if Lucifer had known when to give up his old plan. Joker represents the agency of man kind, or God’s original plan, and Joker stands against both Lucifer and Satan’s methods of opposing that plan of agency.
What Joker truly stands up for, is free will and choice. And there are ways both overt and subtle in which agency can be lost, which are illustrated by the differences between Satan and Lucifer, or Yaldabaoth and Maruki, respectively.
Exactly! What sets humans apart from animals is our moral choice and will. Our ability to feel emotions and understand them. By removing those, Maruki was taking away what makes us human. He couldn't see that a life lived under forced happiness isn't a life at all. A life without change and growth isn't what we are intended to have. What he would've created was a world where people were alive, but not living.
@@rentsukasa2860 Although he didn't intend it, Maruki was essentially turning Tokyo and the entire world into a Zoo, where everyone is trapped in a facade of happiness, unable to grow or achieve anything without his instruction or assistance. All for his own personal enjoyment and satisfaction.

Just finished today! What a blast it's been. 130 hours well spent! Only 3 trophies away from platinum, and I messed up the only viable saves that could've helped me get those 3 trophies easily, so I'll likely have to start all over, but oh well! I want those themes!
I have just finished today. It took my nearly 200 hours. You probably messed up Master of Akihabara trophy because this trophy requires some days spent in maid cafe and you had no enough free days. Besides, P5R trophies are preety easy to obtain much easier than in P5.

Honestly I wasnt that hype for Royal since I enjoy the SMT games more but damm...This game was worth every single hr of my day. Everything was improved and I love the new takes of the persona series. The only thing I never enjoyed was the never ending spinoffs... Instead of making spin off they should have made Royal aleast 2-3 new more palaces...Because damm that last palace and story and writing was amazing.
There's now a direct sequel for the vanilla Persona 5, though not royal, sadly.
