I built a Jaguar from a Heathkit in late 1968, it took me Two months, I was 16. Only thing I did wrong was in building the first section, I overheated the zener diode in the power supply. I was delighted when the sound came up after replacement. Those were the days my friend!
I really enjoyed this!! I built a Jaguar from a HEATHKIT in 68 or 69'. The tone selector/ vibrato switch assembly came assembled, likely in the UK. BUT I had to build all the boards and owe supply. First time I every soldered, the only bad connection was I fried the Zenner diode when building the per supply. 60 cents repair got it working in 1968
So, the board you took out are for the bass voice? And replacing the 4 caps fixed that. Well my bass circuit doesn’t seem to be doing anything on my Thomas P350. Now I know how to test them so thank you. Are the two on the long circuit board, that sits below the voice boards, for the vibrato circuit? My vibrato switch doesn’t seem to do anything so guessing that’s the problem.
Very useful video and I love how you take your time to show what needs to be done. I have a question about my Jaguar. And that is how I can get the rocker tabs to work, the first one functions but sounds like all tabs are on and doesn't sound like the flute tone that it is? I just replaced the circuit board for mine and now works but can't quite get it to function properly. Another thing is that even if the tabs are off it still plays sound. First time doing all this so it would be a help. I hope you can understand what I'm asking.
Hi there! Well, I wish I could give definite advice, but without being able to test your machine directly, I'll give my best guess. I'm thinking the first issue and second issue are related: it sounds to me like all the non-flute voices are stuck in the "on" position, possibly due to the contacts needing to have their positions adjusted, or maybe it's a problem deeper in the board. Start with the position of the contacts, make sure that the other non-flute voices actually have some space between the contacts when they're in the "off" position. Then, if there's still a problem, you'll probably have to look a little deeper into the circuitry. Like I said, this is just a guess, I hope I can help! Good Luck!
@@markbeebe4388 Alright, well it's a start for me so anything will be good advice for me at the moment! And thank you for getting back to me and giving some advice, and I'm also thinking that the two are a related problem. I'll definitely give this a try and see if it fixes the issue. Chances are, is that I may have to go in the control panel like you showed in the video for cleaning the contacts under the tabs. And that could be where the issue is. Again thanks for some insight!
What would happen if I used the wrong capacitor? I got 4.7uf 50v...which was the closest I could find to what you suggested for the vibrato. Just noticed others being referred to as "polarized", and it looks like what I got may not be polarized...does it matter? They also "stand up" as opposed to what's on the card which lay horizontal. Thanks again for your help!
Hey there. No problem using a non-polarized capacitor. The polarized ones work great, but the reason they're polarized is because it's cheaper to make them that way. A non-polarized capacitor in place of a polarized one should work just fine. As for the position, again, it's not important. It might take up a little more physical space in one configuration compared to the other, but as long as it's hooked up right, the electrons don't care about the orientation of the leads. Good luck!
@@markbeebe4388 Thanks for all the advice! I changed out those 4 capacitors and it sounds like it did back in 1971. I do appreciate all you help Mark!!! Merry Christmas!!!
