I saw Santana a few days after Stevie Ray passed away. Carlos came on stage solo with his guitar and told the crowd he was dedicating that show to his brother Stevie Ray. He then played the most sorrowful, beautiful requiem on his guitar. When he finished there wasn't a dry eye in the theater, and you could have heard a pin drop. You guys need to see him play live before he too passes along. He always has a fantastic band and never disappoints. Also you might want to check out Open Invitation from this same album Inner Secrets.
Great comment. Just wanted to let you know that Nick reacted to Open Invitation a year ago. Just type in "NicknLex Santana Open Invitation" and you'll find it. Enjoy his reaction.
Well all right is from Santana " Inner Secrets" album released in 1978 Greg Walker - lead vocals Carlos Santana - guitar, backing vocals Chris Solberg - guitar, backing vocals Chris Rhyne - keyboards David Margen - bass Graham Lear - drums Armando Peraza - percussion, backing vocals Raul Rekow - percussion, backing vocals Pete Escovedo - percussion
I was so fortunate to see Santana back in the late 70's and love the album "Inner Secrets". Brings back a lot of memories when I was in college. Love the entire album and this song is great as well.
It was great to hear this again Stephen. I've always liked Inner Secrets although I never bought the album. I'm no Santana expert but I do have Abraxas in my collection of course. Nick and Alexia, this was about ten years into Carlos and the band's career. Their big break was playing at Woodstock in 1969. They are featured in the movie and the original triple album playing 'Soul Sacrifice'. It's one of the highlights of the whole show. One of the first rock bands to incorporate Latin rhythms and percussion into rock music, at least to my English ears across the pond. Great reaction from Nick and Alexia Corleone!
I've seen Santana live many, many times. Many changes to their lineup of musicians throughout the years but in their heyday (which lasted for multiple decades), they were just phenomenal. Excellent sound, lighting, and production. I'd suggest exploring the Santana III album. Just start with the first track (Batuka) and continue on. You can thank me later. Fun fact - this is the first album where Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon (both later of Journey) joined the band. Another favorite Santana album, quite a few years later, is Marathon. Their sound is very different as are a lot of the band members. Start with the title track (it's very short) and continue straight into Lightning In The Sky. Another standout track from this album is Aqua Marine. It's an instrumental track. Lex is sure to enjoy David Margen's bass. I could add many more suggestions, but this comment is already too long.
I’m looking forward to you exploring Santana more. He is one of my favorite artists, mostly for personal reasons. I have attending a dozen or more of his concerts, beginning in 1970. I will let others expound on why he is such an important artist, and to make the many suggestions for tracks and videos to react to - there are many!
I don’t think you’ve reviewed “Caravanserai”. It’s the most progressive Santana. Very moving and mind blowing. Spiritual themes and fusion players with Carlos’ unique signature.
One year at the California Jam they had to wrap Carlos Santana in a blanket and get him off stage, he had taken too many drugs 😳. Great musician, glad he overcame addiction.
Evil Ways is on the first album. Black Magic Woman is on Abraxas along with Oye Como Va Carlos Santana did an album with John McLaughlin too. Also, a little trivia: Neal Schon from Journey was on early Santana albums.
Surely you should do Lotus first - by the time of Moonflower he was phoning in solos, the proof is that there's about seven guitar "volcanos" on that album
Santana came to what was then called the Charlotte Coliseum, but now Bojangles Arena, June of '75, in a nonstop display of virtuosity, interrupted only once, by a walk-on and joining in by the great Eric Clapton...entirely unannounced. You should have them both on your show. Carl has a cool Masterclass worth taking...from the comfort of your own home. Bargain. Great show! More Carl!
Lex your killing me, really Supernatural a great album. That's when Santana jumped the shark & went total pop. Well Alright is actually a cover of a Buddy Holly song. The super group Blind Faith also did a cover of this. I got to see Santana a few times in the early 80's. Always did a long show with no opener. Now the band that's on Well Alright is not the original that got inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame. The originals are Carlos on guitar & backing vocals Gregg Rolie on vocals & keyboards Michael Shrieve on drums Dave Brown on bass Jose Chepito Areas & Mike Carabello on congo & percussion Gregg Rollie later went on to form Journey with Neal Schon who was also in Santana for a spell. The singer on Well Alright is Alexis Ligertwood who sang on a few albums in this era. It sounds like Nick has heard some Santana, so I hope I don't name the same ones. No One To Depend On Everything's Coming Our Way Jingo Oye Como Va Soul Sacrifice Everybody's Everything Winning Searchin' Brightest Star She's Not There ( the Zombies cover) I think you said you've heard these ones, if not you have to hit these Black Magic Woman (Fleetwood Mac cover) Europa Evil Ways. Great video guys & please go back in time before Supernatural .
When I was a teenager in 1980-81, I loved the airplay of Primera Invasion/Searchin' from the album Zebop! Play those together always it is a gem of a piece of music.
I recommend delving into tje 1972-75 Santana period - instrumentally-oriented, very jazz influenced, it doesn't get any better than the Caravanserai/Welcome/Illuminations/Lotus/Borboletta sequence.
been a fan of santana since i heard their 3rd album fantastic, then Caravansari had to backtrack afterwards ,they have many great albums ,deep dive for sure .Always great guitar riffs fom carlos .
I've seen Santana live a couple times; he's incredible! You should catch him at his residencies in Vegas. You get to catch him in a small venue (House of Blues at Mandalay Bay) and you're in Vegas! Also, his wife is the drummer currently, and she tears it up!! Her drum solo that leads into "Smooth" during the encore was phenomenal!!
The first real great and well known cover was from Blind Faith (Clapton, Winwood) in 1970 !!!! And then later on Santana was also covering this Buddy Holly song !
Please listen to the Blind Faith version from 1969. Santana’s version reflects some of the arrangement from the BF version. Both are great. The Blond Faith version includes lovely interplay between Clapton on guitar and Stevie Winwood on keyboards.
Inner Secrets is one of my collection favorites. There is a great cover of Stormy on the album that I love. I first saw Santana when he was touring in support of this album in 1979. Even though that show was their tour opener, it was a great show in a great venue.
A great arrangement and version. Buddy Holly lives on from his humble beginnings in Lubbock Texas to the tips of Carlos Santana’s nimble fingers to NicknLex. Definitely need more Santana on the channel. Just avoid the songs off the greatest hits album. A great request and reaction. Gotta check out the blind faith cover of this song as well.
Have you already listened to the Blind Faith version? If you haven't heard of this great band (Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and, Rick Grech) it might be worth a try to listen to also for example "Had To Cry Today".
Even though Nick tends to not know some of the most popular songs ever written, I am pretty sure that if we play him Maria, he would say, oh, yeah, I know this one!
NicknLex, Do yourselves a favour go and listen to Santana "Live At The Fillmore 1968" this was a pure raw album which laid down the foundations of their future sound, with 9 tracks of improvisation of instruments not yet heard at that time, a mixture of Blues infused with both Jazz and Rock, after hearing this you will realise why they were invited to play at Woodstock, for Black Magic Woman then you need to listen to Peter Green's version.
Nick and Alexia I am so so glad you both have done reaction videos to 3 of my favorite Mexican American superstars - Linda Ronstadt Joan Baez and Carlos Santana ! amazing talent from them- also Dave Navarro of Red Hot Chili Peppers /Jane's Addiction and also the group Los Lobos are pretty awesome too
I know black magic woman was also done by Fleetwood Mac the first generation of the band with Peter Green not sure but it might be the original version
Santana is brilliant - far better than this cover exhibits. The ultimate track is the live Woodstock version of Soul Sacrifice. ua-cam.com/video/JaaT_HRb4GU/v-deo.html
I prefer earlier Santana albums myself-I love their first six studio albums, and Santana 3 was the first album I bought-but should you choose to react to Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, PLEASE make sure you don't do the abbreviated version, which is what all the other reactors seem to do. Which is disappointing. And just lazy.

Buddy Holly lives on! Big Santana fan here.
Although it was a Buddy Holly hit in the 50s, the cover by Blind Faith from their eponymous album is my jam. This wasn't bad though.
Inner Secrets is such a fantastic album!
It was great to hear this again Stephen. I've always liked Inner Secrets although I never bought the album. I'm no Santana expert but I do have Abraxas in my collection of course.

I forget how much I enjoy Santana! Cool request! Loved this video!!❤

Different in character to the rest of Santana, but an incredible album and, probably, my favorite of their work.
One year at the California Jam they had to wrap Carlos Santana in a blanket and get him off stage, he had taken too many drugs 😳. Great musician, glad he overcame addiction.
Was a great time.
The great Greg Walker on lead vocals. My favourite from this album is One Chain (Don't Make No Prison). Great bass line.
I gave this a like just for Lex's Godfather impersonation.
Evil Ways is on the first album. Black Magic Woman is on Abraxas along with Oye Como Va
Carlos Santana did an album with John McLaughlin too.
Also, a little trivia: Neal Schon from Journey was on early Santana albums.
Just play the album Moonflower from start to finish
Surely you should do Lotus first - by the time of Moonflower he was phoning in solos, the proof is that there's about seven guitar "volcanos" on that album

2:34 -- you gotta change your evil wayz, babay....
I loved both version, the one of Blind Faith and this cover version later on by SANTANA !

She's Not There ( the Zombies cover)
I think you said you've heard these ones, if not you have to hit these

Great video guys & please go back in time before Supernatural .
This song and “Open Invitation” got me as a 9th grader!
Thanks guys! I'm in San Diego today so can't do much commentary..loved the reaction
Exxxxcellent pick, guys! The whole LP this track's from "Inner Secrets" was Grammy-nominated..every track on it is just as good as this one!
the song is evil ways, you're right.
When I was a teenager in 1980-81, I loved the airplay of Primera Invasion/Searchin' from the album Zebop! Play those together always it is a gem of a piece of music.

My son and daughter in law saw Santana in Las Vegas last year and were close to the stage and loved the show
Never knew Santana covered this great Buddy Holly song.
The first real great and well known cover was from Blind Faith (Clapton, Winwood) in 1970 !!!! And then later on Santana was also covering this Buddy Holly song !
@@clannad99germany70 Yeah, was familiar with the Blind Faith version!
Carlos music is so touching.he once said : i want to make people's hair stand up.great artist great music.i saw him twice live.
Please listen to the Blind Faith version from 1969. Santana’s version reflects some of the arrangement from the BF version. Both are great. The Blond Faith version includes lovely interplay between Clapton on guitar and Stevie Winwood on keyboards.
San Francisco's own Santana doing a Buddy Holly classic; love it!!
Inner Secrets is one of my collection favorites. There is a great cover of Stormy on the album that I love. I first saw Santana when he was touring in support of this album in 1979. Even though that show was their tour opener, it was a great show in a great venue.
Santana - Samba Pa Ti(1993 Live Video).

Thanks!
Santana mad tons of albums, NicknLex you should start in 1969 Woodstock and going to the the recent years. See Wikipedia or discogs !
Have you already listened to the Blind Faith version? If you haven't heard of this great band (Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and, Rick Grech) it might be worth a try to listen to also for example "Had To Cry Today".
If I was putting together a 12 track greatest hits album for Santana, this would be on there without a doubt. That guitar is screamin!
Even though Nick tends to not know some of the most popular songs ever written, I am pretty sure that if we play him Maria, he would say, oh, yeah, I know this one!

I think they have a song, Open Invitation? Quite the rocker like this.
inner secrets de Santana - fantastico album chicos y Well all right una joya!
Y’all are goofy funny,lol.
And we try to tone it down in the videos 😛
:) THIS MAKES ME SMILE
Carlos is the bomb!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Buddy Holly wrote this over 60 years ago. Both Carlos and Steve Winwood have done great covers of it.
All I Ever Wanted. The Moonflower album and his 3rd and 4th album with Neil Schon and Greg Rolle from Journey. So much more to tap into.
Nick and Alexia I am so so glad you both have done reaction videos to 3 of my favorite Mexican American superstars - Linda Ronstadt Joan Baez and Carlos Santana ! amazing talent from them- also Dave Navarro of Red Hot Chili Peppers /Jane's Addiction and also the group Los Lobos are pretty awesome too
👍🏻
❤
Santana the goat
Nice song the best for me from Santana
This song was recorded by Blind Faith and Greg Walkers vocals are very similar to Steve Winwood's.
I know black magic woman was also done by Fleetwood Mac the first generation of the band with Peter Green not sure but it might be the original version
Evil Ways
One chain don’t make no prison fem the era is great
My favorite album is Marathon...because it breaks the Santana mold. More Rock and Prog to it...instead of so much cha-cha
Hola mi amigos...
Hola 👋👋👍🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷💪
you should check nueva York from the album shango.thanks
Evil ways 2:20
Santana is brilliant - far better than this cover exhibits. The ultimate track is the live Woodstock version of Soul Sacrifice.
ua-cam.com/video/JaaT_HRb4GU/v-deo.html
Blind Faith version much better, this does not have the 'edgyness'
I prefer earlier Santana albums myself-I love their first six studio albums, and Santana 3 was the first album I bought-but should you choose to react to Soul Sacrifice at Woodstock, PLEASE make sure you don't do the abbreviated version, which is what all the other reactors seem to do.
