  • Ah the 7wts….I love this category as they get fished more than any line weight across the board. In this video, I will chat up the benefits of each of these, from the authoritative nature of the 7126, the sweet groove of the 7130, and the big water Scandi champ, the 7136. Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe, it is much appreciated!
As a side note, I almost didn’t post this video, as I wasn’t totally pleased with my casting. Maybe it’s obvious or not, but I wasn’t totally finding my groove. After watching the video, it was real clear to me what I was struggling with. My rod was too steep in the key position (the firing or casting position). It should have been flatter in the back. I got to maybe 9:30 instead of 10. The result was that I had to rely too much on the tip of the rod for power, instead of being able to access the butt of the rod, which is most powerful. I preach regularly engaging the butt, loading the rod from butt to tip. As you can see, I failed to do this effectively if at all. Did the cast still go pretty good? Yes. But if you watch closely you’ll see some tailing loops of varying degrees. That’s a sure sign of too much tip and not enough butt. Anyway, I thought I would share this as a teaching point. We al have our off days. Thank goodness the R8’s are so forgiving!

    Hey Jon,
Can you do a 7126-4 Igniter and R8 7126-4 comparison video?

I'd personally like him to throw in the 8126 r8 in that video as well.

Would the 7130 cast 10 foot of T-14 without a problem? Most of my fishing with be with 10 foot of t -11 but sometimes the winter fish are just down deeper as you know. Thoughts on T -14 and ever so lightly weighted fly.? Thank you for your feedback back

Oh yeah, 10’ of T-14 is no problem at all.

@@speylesson6761 so 10 foot of T-14 and a small tungsten mini no problem is what your saying.

Step up to 12.5' of T-11 for winter fishing. For me, that tip combo is money for fishing the fly perfectly in the zone of most classic winter runs. I don't fish much T-14 anymore (10 footers) since switching to 12.5' of T-11.

@@speylesson6761 Some one told me there were like 36 different casts. I don't remember the exact number he said number. I'll try to come up with a more comprehensive list.
