As a Dutch stitcher my eye is always drawn to Dutch samplers and they are of special interest to me. I am a beginning stitcher working on my very first sampler and yes, it is a Dutch sampler. So of course I purchased Katerine's Garden via HH, just received it today, it is beautiful! Those colors! This one that you are showing here is quite different but such a classic Dutch sampler, a beauty too!
Thank you for the heads up about the Needle Needs sale. I ordered a stand and received it this fall. It is great. I have been wanting to order a lap stand and just hadn't had the chance yet, so this was perfect timing!
I've got to get my blessing sampler kitted up--so glad for the reminder. My craft room is being painted this week, and I thought I must be off in the head to start all they reorganization during the Christmas season. I do hope that you will share photos of your new space at some future date. Thanks for another lovely visit
You are teasing that red box very effectively - I am going to mark my calendar and make sure I get one!! Thanks for an interesting video, as always, Nicola.
Good Morning, Nicola. Having a beautiful day, I pray. Without electricity, I find it's like camping. Time to use my Treadle to sew by candlelight!!! My Nana used a clip board, set up for each shelf...standing freezer. She had written what was on the shelf, then in pencil, she marked in the # remaining & date put into this freezer. She wore gloves and hat, scarf and thin jacket. We were in Lower Michigan, but she had lived in Miami Florida since 1923...she died in Michigan in the late 1970's. There were still "old" food items, over 10 years, after she died. I was assigned the task of cleaning out the freezer... so I understand your guilt! Let it go! Turn your energies to samplers!!!
I have a question and that is, What make something a sampler? A friend asked the question and I'm not sure, I just said alphabet and numbers with motifs. Thank you for your help.
Could the blessing sampler idea have originated as a marketing scheme to urge stitchers to buy yet another ‘must have’ pattern and supplies?? A way to spike sales for the new year from a major retailer or wholesaler seems likely.
Hello Elizabeth - that’s possible but a question for the person who first shared blessing samplers with needleworkers. For many years now there has been a growing number of needleworkers who stitch blessings samplers in January.
Having no power for 5-6 hours does not warrant throwing out the contents of the freezers. If you don't open the door, it stays at the same temperature for hours. 48 hours for a full freezer, 24 hours for a half freezer.
I can't wait to see if I'm lucky to catch a red box this year...I would also love to see a tour of your new needlework room. I too have a lot of books, and would love to see how you handle it. Do you have two rooms? It almost sounded lIke one room was the needlework room and the other was a craft room? I know sometimes those terms are interchangeable, so wasn't sure if that was the case here ❤
Nicola, you are so funny!! I assume that the 12 years old frozen find was not a favorite food! We all need the electricity to go out once in a while to make do a deep clean!
The Dutch sampler is gorgeous! I love Dutch samplers and can't wait to see it charted.

How do I order the next red box!?!
Hello - the next box will release at the end of January and I will give advance notice on social media and UA-cam of the date and time.

We were without power for almost three days
Why do I hear a train whistle at 15:26 and 17:25?
I am sorry it was my phone.

The Dutch sampler is from Amsterdam, according to the coat of arms in the middle!
