Matt, you're a fucking legend. I'm in the same shit with a Z1000sx. Told by Kawasaki the network is down etc etc. I did as you said, fuck me, she lives
I get shite like this on cars all the time. Then you get customers asking why they have to pay a diagnostic fee when “you just plug the diagnostic machine in and it tells you what’s wrong” 😂
So well spotted Matt, my inclination from a technical viewpoint has always been to check all fuses for not just continuity, but also resistance (where the fuse goes high in Ohms and becomes a resister) With all the seeming paradoxical behaviours that can provide. Inconsistent responses etc.
Really interesting video. I did some can bus reading on my Triumph Speed Triple using an Arduino. The bike was a right off which I rebuilt (no I am not Ginger!), the bike didn't come with any clocks so I was trying to see if the mileage was stored in the ecu, got loads of data, never found the mileage but was still an interesting experiment. Video in my Speed Triple playlist.
Thank you for making this video Matt. I’m very curious and I’d like to understand more, pls? For example, what is the setup of your laptop to show the bikes diagnostics and how you interpret that code in order to troubleshoot? Can you give any pointers for anyone wanting to learn? Thanks.
I have been given a software package from a 'friend' that was made by a company for denso. It's not something I'm supposed to have. If you get my drift.
Sort of the same thing on my aprilia - fuelpump died - the dash went mental and ECU error was showned - the errorcodes in the menu said TPS error... but no - a dead Fuelpump..
Matt probably ECM tried to pull current from the network because the fuse was blown when that happened microcontroller probably turned off the network causing no com error 39. If you connect the bike to scanner and doesn't show up the ECU most of the times that means ECM missing power or ground This happens lot on cars.
Had a problem with my vfr800 headlights would not come on, turns out it was the starter button not returning far enough after pressing it. Turns out the light is using the starter for a live. fault finding can be a bugger.
Logically though it kinda makes sense, ecm sees no output from the crank sensor, no way for it to detect a relay failure, so it's just assuming that the bike is turning over and it's not detecting it. Probably makes the assumption if there's actually a no crank no start scenario, starter feed circuits would be checked before a diag connection is required
@@ryanmg92 Well not if you still hear the relay click and the manual tells you to check the sensor resistance with the code, the sensor was completely fine after testing. I mean it's logical if you work your way backwards but it was intermittent
Sounds like it could be solved if the ECU tested the pump voltage the other side of the fuse , obviously it arises becasue it still thinks the pump has voltage
if it's blowing the fuse matt, there is obviously too much current going through it. means, the pump is struggling, ie seizing, choked with shit. if the pump is ok. look at the earths . grounds US . as a car mechanic this seems like a bad earth problem.
Try yourself some modern car tech. Overfull your adblue.... Sensor in the tank cant differentiate between overfilled and empty.... 500 miles to start inhibition 😂
No that isn't right. I've got a better fix. Mask off the area of your dash that doesn't show an error code, and spray it TUFF matt black. All error codes resolved, forever.
Delboy had a code 69 come up on his Kawasaki dog shit streetfighter, when he scanned it it said "What the fuck have you done to me you bastard."
😂
Ah, yes, the old code
The bike said to Del: Error: ID 10-T !
haha belter. Gave me a good chuckle 😆

Random comment to remind YT I still watch your videos. That was like the good old days.
blackboard/whiteboard is back! And it looks green
It was always green
I learnt a lot from this board
@@AdamWarwicker me 2 love these videos
@@thedirtyworkshop you did have a white one at a point didn't you?
@stathisko1 this is the white board, with a dark green 'black board' vinyl
Men. This video made my day. Er6-n code 39. Replace fuse. Solved!
Nice one matt! Marvellous to the point info. No tangents!!! 👍 Great video - true for Z900rs also as I discovered.
Don't mock the tangents...
it made my day seeing the whiteboard again!
So, thinking back. That was the time you did a vid on your rotten fuses. Glad you went a bit deeper.
Corroded fuse and plug terminals can really send modern systems into a frenzy.
Nice to see the board again...
Really interesting video.

Good advise with the fuse recommendation.. ref. Buy bosch!!
Matt done something he's been talking about doing? 😂wow
Nice pens, easy to see
Very good Matt, thanks!
Matt, I can see a number of variations on the French Guillotine on your board. Have things gone so far?
"Neutral might come on, but then disappear when you click it in to gear"
i know what you mean, but that was funny

those pens look nice
Please don`t take this the wrong way, but, It`s great to have you back at a board or working in the shop.
Lol there's no taking this the wrong way you horrible human being lol 😂 I'm gonna find out where you live and sell you waterless coolant.
@dirtygarageguy and all a long I thought you were a arm chair taxi rank nob jocky know it all

Nice bit of fault finding btw, and the reason jobs for decent techs will be around for quite some time in the foreseeable future.
@dirtygarageguy Matt what link/connector did you use to integrate the ecu check list etc ?

This happens lot on cars.
Also reason for no fuel pump was the fuel pump relay pin 30 fed by the ECM fuse
There is no ECM.
ECM
ECU
MY BAD
This was interesting. I watched it all, I don’t own green. 👍🏻
I’m going to look up Bosch fuses for my Honda. Thanks
What were those markers again?
Very interesting vid!
What are the big problems of del vs ginger? Im curious on how you think of how they're wrong
I’ve missed videos 1 -38. Have you deleted them?

Reminds me of my Yam throwing a crank position sensor code when it was just a starter relay gone bad....
Logically though it kinda makes sense, ecm sees no output from the crank sensor, no way for it to detect a relay failure, so it's just assuming that the bike is turning over and it's not detecting it.

Didn't you replace all the fuses last year as a precaution against corrosion ("Kawasaki Fuses Rotting Away")?
This video clip is from 2022. This is one of many video in my huge backlog
@dirtygarageguy Cheers. Obviously an area to keep an eye on!
There's another video coming about this.

Nope. Corroded fuse. I have proof.
New type of markers
Please do a follow up Video in replicating this Problem. Remove ze Fuse and look if the Faultcode pops up again =) Cheers M8
Blackboard FTW

i'd say its fkd if that happens haha
