You spoke about the fuel, I had a company fuel card a few years ago and it took over £5000 off my tax allowance and I just couldn't do enough private mileage to justify the cost. So I handed it back in, paid for fuel and claimed the for business miles, much better off in the long run. And it changes your driving habits as well, MPG went up.

This government keeps taxing everyone more and on many additional things to pay for their failed policies. At the same time freezing income tax allowances and taking away capital gains tax allowances. I have been running a small business for the last 30 years where on the same turnover I had during the previous Labour government my costs to run the business have skyrocketed as well as paying at least an additional £20 000 in company and personal taxes. It’s no longer viable for me and am winding down the business to close it at the end of this financial year in April. When the Tories came into power my business employed a dozen people, their policies have ruined the economy and the only option they have now is to keep cutting public services and raise taxes to cover their losses. While they do that more and more smaller businesses will become unviable and will close down further reducing tax incomes for the Country.

It's not just this party its government in general, all are the same shade of grey. Labour spend without thought, Conservative save without thought, it's a yo yo economy but never a happy medium. Memories fade quickly it seems as I can remember my father 33%tax back in the 70s under Labour so again they are all the same, voting don't work and never has for if it did the elites wouldn't of allowed us to do it.

@@LaZoucheCustomshop Running my business was a lot more profitable under a Labour government. Friends of mine who run different businesses also agree that since the Tories took power their businesses all suffered. All governments take taxes but at least Labour invested in schools, NHS and public services. Tories have got a track record of waste, corruption, public spending cuts as well as giving the wealthy tax breaks while raising taxes for small businesses and everyone else. They are not all the same, that is just Tory rhetoric to make people apathetic to put people off voting for other parties. Having lived under various Labour and Tory governments I felt better off under labour also the country didn`t need to rely on food banks as many now do under the Tories.

No incentive not to commute in my 2 tonne vehicle causing more road wear and pollution than cycling 🤷‍♂️ (well actually the way i puff and pant i probably produce more co2 than the car 😂) It started as a way to prove mot and insurance, now that can be done in other ways.

Another move forcefully pushing people into the electric market, the next stage is increasing road tax to make it financially unviable!
If a individual or company is willing to part with 50k for a vehicle it encourages growth and employment in the sector contractors in industry will simply use the money in other tax saving ways!

I had pickups for years until the company got rid of all the vehicles in covid. A lot who did have them to reduce tax went electric once the bik went rock bottom on that. They are not like an suv as people suggest but they suited me down to the ground. I work on construction sites and the vans always got stuck in the winter. If you asked for a push some guy would turn up in a loader with a huge bucket and try to aim at your towbar. You felt like a cat who had lost a life. You could sling all your smelly clothes and oily equipment in the back and all travel in more comfort than a van with 3 seats in the front. I also had to carry 700kg parts for repair, they could do that. I could tow equipment. I also used it for a family car. Not very comfortable in the back, child seats didn't fit well and a pain to park but I got by. Now I don't have a company car I have 3 private vehicles to do what I used to do with the single pickup. Mainly for improved comfort. I am out of pocket as the milage allowance has been stagnant for so long so im paying to go to work. A relative of mine does contract work. He takes the 4 workers and a fuel bowser to the machines every day. Plenty have a practical uses for the double cabs and I would get one again if work decided to provide them again but only at the low tax rate. Atleast I have an asset now rather than just paying tax to work 🤷‍♂️

It does sort of make sense, manufacturers have made premium models of trucks like the wildtrak for the ranger, the invincible X for the hilux and pretty much the full range of the Mercedes and VW trucks.. Anyone that uses their truck as a truck its always pretty beat up and is the base model... I had the option of a company car, I did it when I was a 20% tax payer but as soon as your a 40% tax payer it makes no sense, I did about 30k miles a year and used to buy a few year old BMW 3 series diesel, I made money on the fuel per mile the company gave me, with mileage allowance relief doing such good mileage, I made more money. And I got a company car allowance although that money was taxable.. The devaluation on a brand new car if you do 30k miles a year and need to change cars every 4yrs is nuts... EV's have driven people back into the company car schemes but its correct the premium truck market will be killed, the ironic thing is the government will not get any more tax because people will just move away from having a company car and claim loads of tax relief so when you consider the tax they get for a new car/truck and the BiK they will get less tax. How can a vehicle be in two different classes simultaneously ?
How can one Government department, in this case HMRC class a vehicle as a 'car' whilst a different Government department (ie DVLA) classes it as 'commercial' ?
It's either one or the other - it can't be both at the same time
If they're a 'car' then they pay lower Road Tax & are not liable to be charged in CAZ (Clean Air) zones, as cars are exempt from CAZ charges
This needs to be challenged in Court - I'm sure a Judge will be as confused about it as anyone else with a brain cell - and I'd love to see HMRC justify & explain how a vehicle can be in two classes simultaneously as classified by two Official departments of the same Government !

It was in London so I needed to get the train which cost be £9k per year (not tax deductable despite the fact I was using public transport and not clogging up the roads). My net pay rise as a result of going over £100k (and into the stealth 60% tax bracket between £100k-123k that nobody knows about) was that I was £81 per month better off - after a £30k pay rise. We have a few electric trucks in the USA but the mileage on say an F150 is limited to the same range as an E Transit, about 110 miles on a full charge, we travel far more miles than Brits on a normal basis, the F150 Lightening sales have slumped, in 24 Ford will make 50% of what they made in 23, Electric trucks are for a selective few, I cant see them being a success anytime soon, the smaller Maverick hybrid pick up is very successful, Ford can sell every one they make, they are smaller than a Ranger.
The Rivian is expensive and rare to see, repairs to replace a 1/4 panel can run $40.000, so not exactly cheap.

      @@DefinitelyNotAGuru
The Maverick makes sense for many in need of a small 4 door truck, they were supposed to sell for 20k as a base hybrid model, there is also a 4wd without the hybrid feature, many Mavericks with decent options would be under 30k which makes more sense than your typical American small car purchase, I've not seen one sell for less than 40k, dealers mark them up 10k-15k all the time as they are in demand.
Search for the videos here on You Tube so can see the Rivian 1/4 panel repair using P.D.R., that's where I'm seeing the 40K body shop repair estimate, its not the cost of the 1.4 panel but associated labor involved.

According to what I;ve read - yes. The car simply has to be ordered before 1st July - I think in 3 years the tax will kick in on all of them though (whatever the age)

Let's be honest, most of the people buying and using them spend their life trying to avoid or minimise tax. In my view levels the field a little.
