    I actually have not yet seen Transformers, but I had a whole lot of fun arranging this piece for my sister.
    This video goes out to my sister who forced me to play this piece. ^_^

Because personally it is a beautiful piece and if there's anyone that can do it beautifully, I believe you are the one to do it. I have never in my life heard one single person fill out the entire spectrum of sound so proficiently using a single instrument. It speaks volumes for the instrument, but leagues of greatness for the musician. This is hands down the best rendition of Arrival to Earth I have ever heard, and I do make a point out of searching for these things, and listening to all of them.

    How long one needs to practice, and - more importantly - *HOW* to practice, to play so well?
    I play piano since 3 years so far, but my skill is nothing when compared to this. So I guess I'm doing something wrong :P but what?...

    • @austinchuong4686
      @austinchuong4686 9 років тому

      +Bon Bon I played for 8 years, so i guess it just takes time

    • @pablo-zn1mg
      @pablo-zn1mg 9 років тому

      Bon Bon You have to challenge yourself to learn new pieces, a little more difficult every time, but always learn good form, otherwise it'll be hard to correct mistakes later on.
      It takes time and patience. Just enjoy everything you play and you'll get there.

    • @bonbonpony
      @bonbonpony 9 років тому

      Pablo x That's exactly how I learn to play. I don't use sheet music, I always try to figure out the melody and all the chords from hearing, or find what just fits the harmony, or use the circle of fifth when I have the key signature figured out already. Then I learn to play songs which I like. And then I enjoy it. It is fun when it works.
      The problem is, I often know exactly how to play everything in sequence, but my hands don't follow it nicely. My fingers slip from the keys to play different, inharmonious tones, or I cannot remember fast enough which keys should I press. And then it is no longer fun.
      I have wasted a lot of time before I finally figured out the right way of learning how to play both hands. First I struggled for almost two years with my hands, because once I tried to focus on one hand, I was losing control over the other, and vice versa. The turning point was only when I slowed it down to one note per second, changing the position of both hands together as if they were a MIDI output instrument which can receive packets of commands, one at a time, but changing the setup of both hands at once. When I mastered the sequence, I could then speed it up more and more, until I could play it with original tempo. That's how I learned how to play my first two-handed song. With time, my hands learned how to automate how my left hand does to accompany the right hand.
      Therefore I can surely tell that it doesn't matter *how much* one practices. The more important is *how* one practices, and to do it *the right way*. Because if I knew the trick I used to learn playing both hands at once to begin with, I wouldn't need to *waste nearly 2 years on practicing the wrong way* :P
      Can you save me some more time and disclose me some more tricks which could help me in my exercises?

    • @austinchuong4686
      @austinchuong4686 9 років тому

      First, do you have a teacher, because it sounds like you learned piano by yourself.
      You actually don't really need the circle of fifths. Instead, for flat keys, just go foward one flat (Eflat= b e a because next flat after e is a). If your in a minor key, go to major to do this trick. Then for sharp keys,go to the last sharp, and go one semitone up (f c g, g# goes a semitone up to have A+).
      I can probably send you some more tricks if I know where you are at. So please tell me if you have a teacher, AND if you know harmony.

    • @bonbonpony
      @bonbonpony 9 років тому

      Austin Chuong No, I don't have any teacher. I usually learn everything by myself, or by observing people who already are masters of the trade. (That's how I've got here.)
      As to harmony, well, I study it a lot, from the early discoveries of Pythagoreans (mathematical ratios between lengths of the strings which make harmonious intervals, e.g. 1:2 = octave, 2:3 = perfect fifth, 3:4 = perfect fourth etc.), how they build chords, physics of sound & waves, normal modes of vibration in 1D, 2D, 3D etc., major & minor scales, dissonant tritones based on the square root of 2, I also use the geometric relations between scales & chords in the circle of fifth to find harmonious chords in each scale (though I still haven't figured out the *left side of the circle*). I suspect that there's still a lot of things I could learn about harmony, e.g. all those fancy chords, like sevenths, diminished & augmented ones, added ninths & 11ths etc. and what functions they perform in composition (so far I figured out that the sevenths are prettty much in the middle between major and minor scales' moods).
      Sure, I'd be glad to learn more tricks from you. Perhaps you can send me an e-mail at cloudsdale@go2.pl and we continue from there?

      Yeah, I act snootily towards people like you for a reason. Respect is earned. I'll answer to you kind and properly as soon as you stop being so incredibly lazy and ignorant. How hard could it possibly be for you to type a sentence into Google search?
      But hey, since you didn't ever bother to reply to the actual contents of my message, you don't seem to know what being grateful means either. _I_ suggest you look up the meaning of respect first before going on a tantrum about what I should and shouldn't say.
      Edit: I see you didn't even bother replying. Thought so. Next time around, don't be so ignorant and simply put a bit of effort into whatever you would like to know.

    I remember almost 10 years ago I watched this video and thought it was the greatest thing ever, and decided to learn to play this piece. It ended up taking me a little over 2 months to learn the whole thing, and now that im looking back at this, I have made crazy progress. I can probably learn this in less than a week now. If I were to tell my past self that one day I would be able to play thing like this easily, I would have never believed it, but here I am. I might sound like a dick here but im just reflecting on myself because Ive been writing my college essay on my experience with music and piano lmao.

    @higonya08 I mean, there is nothing wrong with it! under 'inappropriate' I meant that I missed some chords I feel that dominate next to the main melody during the whole track and I would have stuck much more to the orchestral version (I know that 2 hands and a piano cannot copy that!) All in all, I wasn't referring to bad soundings, just ones that didn't fit to the original song In My Opinion! But congrats again!

    This is wrong. In order for him to play this good and this elegantly he took years of piano and music lessons. He gave up endless hours of studying and listening. None can be that good without training.
    I am not saying that Kyle is not a really talented persons. That he is. But his talent had to be planished with hard work and patience. This, what we see is the pay off !

    I can play this, flawless but it just doesn't feel the same as your version. You really have alot of 'feel' for the music you play, which makes this video and your others so amazing.
    I'll get to the same point as you over time though, don't worry :P

  • @higonya08
    @higonya08 12 років тому

    I don't doubt your talent, excellent work! but if you say you play 'arrival to earth' then play that! also, it could have been better if you stick more to the original and leave some inappropriate chords the hell out that made it kitschy sometimes.

    I was just viewing the UKpiano page and I can now see how you're style differs from his, I'm not saying it's bad, (who am I to judge?), but you are both amazing piano players and I aspire to be you. :)

    @parakutita Oh God, i think to make a tutorial is quite hard because his level of playing the piano is amazing.. Most of the tutorial have pattern.. can u imagine what i mean?? i learn so much song from tutorial.. but i think that to learn a tutorial form his kind of playing is kinda hard.. i think that is easier to learn hard songs from the piano sheet.. it's just my opinion.. no offense (^^)

    @piano3479 @piano3479 There are only a handful of words you can wright on youtube, and I'm not gonna wright an entire novel. Rather getting to the point with few but very reasonable words, without saying it sucks but giving it a reason it's not as good as it should be. I think that this version is better: ua-cam.com/video/xx86Y0cTrzc/v-deo.html&feature=related. That's Arrival to Earth, this is a medley. It's well performed but not harmonic as the original. And come on, this guy has to get some critique.

    Saying as they do in Amadeus, "too many notes." It's much more noisy than the original, where the theme is more beautiful and easy on the ear. I think you play the disney songs a lot better than this. They were scores you could listen to while have a glass of wine.
    Oh and don't feel bad bout not seeing the movie. You only need to see the first one. The others are just over-rated, over-patriotic, nationalistic, typical Mchael Bay money farmers.

    Yet another person who thinks they know something is very wrong. Mark fowler (UKPiano) is a very good player but his skill doesn't come close to Kyle's. If been subscribed to both for as long as I've been on youtube and from all their uploads Kyle is better. Would be cool for them to dual in a song though. Bit like a face off :P

  • @kevoo224

    Maybe half true. I think the notes are kind of "primers" in which it's not all muscle memory, but when he sees a specific portion of the sheet music, he remembers what he's supposed to play. So he doesn't read sheet music note for note, but it's not all muscle memory either.
    at least that's how it works for me...
