Department-wise Cadre Strength
The IRMS has a total of 10 departments. The largest department is the Indian Railways, with over 1 lakh employees. The other departments are the Indian Posts, the Central Railways, the Eastern Railways, the North Eastern Railways, the North Western Railways, the South Eastern Railways, the South Western Railways, the Western Railways, and the Metro Railways.
Promotion Aspects
IRMS officers are eligible for promotion to the following grades:
Senior Administrative Grade (SAG)
Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS)
Assistant Indian Railway Management Service (AIRMS)
Departmental Opportunities
IRMS officers have a wide range of career opportunities, including:
Track engineering
Rolling stock engineering
Electrical engineering
Signal and telecommunications engineering
Traffic management
Commercial operations
Finance
Personnel
Entry through RRB JE and RRB NTPC
IRMS officers can be recruited through the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) Junior Engineer (JE) and Non-Technical Popular Category (NTPC) exams.

Sir, Prepared hard for gate and ese in 2020 but then lockdown happened. Took corporate job as soft dev but corporate is not for me.
Thought to try again in core field. Applied for GATE 2025 to target PSUs but missed the ESE application. Hope they will reopen the application window

Sir,1 doubt nhi clear ho paa rha hai.....OBC NCL k liye parents ka salary/pension count kiya jaata hai ya nhi....kyuki google says salary not considered for OBC NCL
OBC NCL status is purely based on parents status
Salary from business or private job or agriculture or group B, C government job will not be counted.

Already officer are there on these seats from the 8 departments of Railways
Every year new IRMS officers will come and already existing will get promoted.

Since services are now merged and under the banner IRMS so does that mean if someone is recruited in IRMS(Civil) then in future say 10-15 years later of joining the service will he be transferred to other departments say IRMS(Mechanical) or will he be handling the manpower falling under IRMS(Civil) only for his lifetime.

In simple words, only name is changed to IRMS, all rules are same as earlier
Post of ADRM, DRM, GM, CRB were already mixed cadre post.
JS, SS, JAG, SG are still in parent cadre.
Practically no changes due to IRMS.
Either You will work in your cadre or as ADRM, DRM, GM in mixed pool cadre posts
Switching of service from mechanical to civil or any other combination is still not allowed

ESE doesn't have attempt limit, wo it's not a disqualification parameter
