Bring back the spiked golf shoes and let the players rip up the greens like in the old days. Don't see any players getting pissed about missing putts anymore because of spike marks. Also, grow the rough on all of the PGA courses and tighten up the fairways. There is no premium on control anymore because the courses are too well manicured. Lastly, no more drivable par 4s.
I'd be down for a little bad luck. Agree with no premium on control, the driver heads play a part in that as they are very forgiving. But also you're not afraid to try and send it and if you miss you can easily get it up and down with all these spinners they are hitting.
Roll back will put bigger premium on distance and the guys who hit it far will have a bigger advantage. Bryson swinging the club 149.4 mph, no one did that in 1995.
I just think nothing will happen at the pro level. I do actually think they need to look at how courses are defended and making golf a little bit tougher at the top levels, but I just don't see it.

I never really thought of that as being a cause! Might be another interesting thought for course architecture since that is a huge expense for the course.
It has minimal to do with the ball and everything to do with the courses and course set up. Look at the scores at Kapalua a Launching Pad Course and the Scores at the Sony Open. Night and day because the course is set up differently. The Sony Open course is only 7020 yards. Great stats on being further from hole but putting has improved

I am a numbers guy and its amazing how little these "decision makers" look at actual numbers, not the numbers they manipulate i.e. the USGA to fit their agenda. 320 yards is the max driving distance according to their previous testing (with the 3 yards max variance added to the 317 yard limit) And only 3 golfers on the PGA Tour last year averaged more than 320 yards in the 2023 season. Rahm was 11th in driving distance and won the most Tournaments. Its all about skill not distance. I am not saying distance does not help but it is only one factor for a golfer's success.
I thought it was really interesting back in December after the Grant Thornton Event, the reporter, cant remember which one, reported that Keegan Bradley did testing with a model of the rolled back version, and he said he lost 40-50 yards of distance. Lucas Glover, who was interviewed at the Tournament, said the testing he did with a model of a rolled back ball, resulted in a significant loss of distance, which is totally contradictory to the fake numbers the USGA is reporting, how they are saying most people arent going to be affected. And I say to that, is if most people arent going to be affected why do it then? Its a non-sensical, flawed, agenda-driven decision by the USGA

It's about how low scores are on the professional tours. They can't keep making courses longer to try and get these guys to hit longer clubs in is what they are saying.
Huh, then you are going to make distance even more of an advantage, notice when the US Open is played on courses where they do that it's the Brysons, woodlands, of the game that win. only skills you need are to bomb a drive then hack a wedge out.

Thanks for the review. I play on a Pete Dye course and he’s a master at disguising breaks. I have poor depth perception and my guesses of which way a ball breaks is right maybe 50% of the time. I saw this board on another of your videos and bought the complete putting package when it was on sale. I’ve just started using the board and I’m still learning how to feel the minor breaks. I used the system the lady round I played and it seems to be working better than my guessing. One question about the board. Have you tried using it to simulate ball above and below your feet shots?
I haven't used it for shots, I honestly don't think it's going to be that much of a difference on full shots and if you turn the board sideways it's not wide enough for me to get a stance. But it has really helped my putting as well, including in the sim, where I now have a system in place, i'm not just randomly guessing on how to hit shots.
@@scotthogangolf I thought about hitting off board when I saw it in one of your videos. The way it was positioned in the video I thought you might be using. I also think it may not be wide enough. If I figure out how to read which way a putt breaks it will be a big win. The bigger breaks are easy to feel, it’s the smaller ones I’m struggling a little with.
Not sure it's about scoring as much as it's distance and sustainability of courses. I guess they could just grow the rough... I took the Aimpoint course and been using it for a few years. I love the fact it clears my mind of any doubt about the line and I can then commit to the line I read and try my best at matching the pace for it.
I think they are trying to hide behind sustainability , but they started lengthening courses to try and combat that courses were defenseless. But they never thought about how pros will just keep getting faster and longer. It's the same here, they will just roll the ball back but it won't do anything for pros. Unless you change how the game is played from short, people will still try and bomb it. But yes a green reading system is awesome and it helps with all parts of putting!
They tried growing the rough at Winged Foot. Who won?? Bryson Dechambeaux. The longest hitter in the field. Why? Because it's easier to hit a wedge from that thick rough than an 8 iron.

How much longer are the courses now than 20 years ago?
7000 used to be long on tour at par 72. Now 7400-7500 isn't uncommon at a par of 71 or 72. There are also some courses over 8000 yards now.

Right, they are hitting it farther away, so they must be scoring in some other areas. Yet we are very fixated that distance is the problem.

Correct, and that will still always be the case (as the game currently is) whoever hits it farther will have it easier.
No its 100% about people shooting too low otherwise they wouldn't want to make the courses bigger in the first place
