Arthur Big Boy Crudup. Was my beginning in blues. He was my father's best friend. I'm an old man now. Watching my health slip away from me. From living that hard blues lifestyle. I miss Big Boy Crudup. My dear friend, my mentor, my teacher. God Bless his memory, and his musicality forever......!!!! 🙏
It was common to do that to musicians at that time, especially if they were black. Other wonderful black singers and songwriters of the 20th century were ignored and silenced only because of the colour of their skin. Shame on racists.
I just heard his song on the radio flipping thru stations . It's alright now momma I just had to get the song!!!! Now I can't stop playing it ...1957 an just love it!!! 2023 now playing
Parker or Melrose. I think his heirs won the lawsuit for the royalties. other artists covered Crudup's songs. Elvis gave him recognition and admiration in some early interviews I believe.
Brian Hackert, Only four years before he left this world. And to think he financially suffered so many years, while whites became millionaires from his labor. Sounds familiar?
He should have gotten more than $10,000 even in 1970. There were a lot of black songwriters who penned some fantastic songs and weren’t given crap because of the times where the white record companies took the songs and didn’t consider of even giving any of the royalties. Frankie Lymon supposedly lost close to a near six figure plus for song rights , record sales that the owner of the company literally withheld most of all the royalties and paid the Teenagers a mere pittance.
Really Anna? you must be so proud,I’m just sorry so many of the original blues musicians were never paid or taken care of,the gift they gave to all of us, Black American culture shook the World Anna, right up till today, look what came from it Jazz,Rythm n Blues,Rock n Roll,Motown,The Beatles,Rolling Stones etc,Funk,Soul James Brown,Rap, Hip Hop etc etc,we owe a debt of gratitude to your grandad and all those pioneers, much love from Liverpool UK
You're not a black born in 1905. You're black living in fucking 2022, where society is completely trained to be sympathetic towards you, and the government panders to you. And even the N word is disparaged universally as the ultimate bad word for whites to say. But yet you're so "oppressed" like people in Crudup's time. Its not even remotely close
It is all of these injustices...the countless manipulations and shady business practices that have caused a wedge between our communities even today. There are too many, and that is only taking African American experiences into account. I'm not blamin all Euro Americans, I am saying that there were always too few of them. In Music, off the top of my head, only Sinatra and Eminem...Eric Clapton...Stevie Ray Vaughn...but compared to the many who never helped or stick up for others...that number is embarassing.
If I was Elvis want to make sure he got royalties but then again he hardly even paid Scotty and Bill for they did on those records, after all of us Scotty Moore who made the sound of the Sun's records
Crudup lived a very simple lifestyle, considering that he was paid >$2 million (adjusted for inflation) for Elvis' use of "That's All Right". Oh wait, he was paid
Aurea Mediocritas I think she was referring to the royalties which were owed him by the radio stations and record companies. The business was notorious then as now. Of course, anyone can sing anything and it’s not Elvis’ fault he didn’t get his royalties. Elvis didn’t owe him royalties - the record companies and radio stations did.

Lester Franklin Melrose ripped him off after signing Arthur to RCA.
Elvis made huge money, recording That's Alright. Arthur Big Boy Crudup. Made $1.06.In royalty's for That's Alright.

@@stevetessier6568 Elvis NEVER got ANY writing royalties from that song and NEVER owned the copyright. Why do people don't understand that?
His baby left him...I can hear the sadness in the way he sings his song. This is a Blues
