  • Hello, my luxurious friends!
I've been thinking a lot lately about how much downsizing my luxury designer handbag collection has changed my thought process. I've learned so much over the last few years and I'm on a journey toward luxury minimalism.
Hope you enjoy. Let me know if you have any video ideas!

When I was your age I loved black, and now at 46 I feel like it makes me look drab. My color now is blues and greens. You’re a beauty!

Same! As soon as I had kids I realized how colorful and fun their clothes are so I went full spring-summer.

Funny, I also used to prefer black over other colors. However as we get older, we tend to gravitate towards “softer” dark colors like: navy, forest green, maroon…

And…black does look better on people with High or Low contrast, especially those with black, or much darker hair. And not so much on folks with Medium contrast.

I have a spreadsheet too of all my purchases -- bags, clothes, jewelry and significant home stuff -- not just to determine cost per wear/use but also to track where my money goes and to justify if something is worth replacing already or selling. I am able to compute a reasonable amount of my item when I sell it juat by referring to my Excel spreadsheet. Been maintaining one since 2005 😊

One of the benefits of having a curated collection is not having clutter. Every time I try to down size anything, I end up replacing 😂. Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊

Clutter can be creative though! But I understand if you're busy then keeping it simple and curated is the way to go.

I'm someone who has been in the vintage/designer resale game for almost 20 years. Clothing is much less resellable than accessories like bags or shoes. Jewelry in particular retains its value over time.

I had so many random bags .. cheap ones from Zara etc. .. pretty much sold them all, now I only have some good quality mid range bags and it feels so liberating! One day I’ll make my Hermes dream come true 💪🏼

Thanks SO much for making this video, especially noting that it's okay to feel bored with our collection. I'm in a similar stage of life where I've downsized my collection to 6 core bags, mainly consists of Longchamp and Loewe. Some of them I kept for sentimental purposes, so technically I use only 3-4 in rotation on a daily basis. It's crazy when I looked back and thought I needed to have EVERY color and handbag type while truthfully I aim for a carefree life (and that includes not worrying about having lots of prized possession whenever I leave home)

Really love your perspective here and the conscious choices you’ve made and why. I’m a big fan of checking in with myself on how I actually feel about something and that requires getting quiet for a moment and tuning out the noise.

I love this video Kate! I’ve downsized to 8, hoping to downsize 6. My only reason is that I reach for one bag for everything, and that’s my Alma BB. However my taste has shifted to Chanel so my small handbag collection is turning into a very small Chanel collection. But 4-5 useful handbags is more than enough for me.

I’m new to the luxury market, for a long time I didn’t buy bags just because I had other financial responsibilities. But now I can finally indulge, and because I can I find myself wanting less. When I couldn’t have any luxury bag at all I wanted them all, and now that I can buy bags, I try to be very choosy. I was also inspired by you and the happiness and practical attitude you have toward your bags. I only have about 5 bags now, and I plan to sell most at the end of the year and buy more for next year until I find the 5 I love and can stick to for years. Thank you for the ideas and sharing your journey! Also love seeing the genuine joy your bags brings you (:

Your approach to luxury bags is very practical and responsible. I went overboard with purchasing handbags and am also currently downsizing. Even if you have a lot, you end up using the same few mostly. There are more ways to spend money than accumulating stuff. Understanding your personal style and lifestyle needs helps with curating your collection.

Great video..enjoyed it. For 40years I used one bag a year..the same bag went with me everywhere ..usually a Fossil tote. Then I got into luxury bags..slippery slope ..now I have to think about how to rotate my bags 😅

Excellent video! A collection of holy grail items - I love that! I rate all my items before purchasing by asking myself is this a 8/10 or higher, if not, I just don’t buy it. I too wear black clothing all the time and so I have a number of black bags, but once in a while I add color, like a yellow mini caviar flap and a red M/L timeless classic ….they make me so very happy!

Thank you for this video. Not gonna lie, the cost-per-wear spreadsheet sounds extremely nerdy and I love it. 😂Yes, a chart would be great! Ok, so you have inspired me to get rid of a ton of bags. I have a list and just have yet to start selling again. Been in a masters program the last two years, so these bags have been accumulating and it bothers me deep down, too as well (security of them), and not so much the money-- the time spent trying to get many of them. I don't own any Hermes, mine are all Chanel's (mostly pre-crazy price increases) and LV's. I actually considered opening a consignment shop at one point...🤣😂 I would like to make a UA-cam channel just to share my opinions on bags to help out others, if only I could figure out the editing, etc. and get the time to do it. That blue Hermes is FIRE, by the way... my favorite color. 💙💙💙🤗👜

Thank you!! Yeah, of course. I sell my bags to Fashionphile and Rebag. I used to sell my shoes on eBay but I recently started selling some to TheRealReal and had a bad experience so I'm going back to eBay lol. Clothes I usually just donate or give to friends/family (I don't have very many name brand clothing items).

Oh, I have a spreadsheet I started about 7 months ago, too! Are your bags the columns or the rows? Mine are the columns with dates as the values in the columns. The point about always getting bored no matter the number is so true. I used to have only one or two, so I know you don't *need* a lot. But I am having fun, currently, with about twice your number. I'll be excited to see your graph. If I only wore one per day and the total number was not so big, I would have done a pie or donut. But sometimes I'll wear one in the day and one at night, and I'm only really liking the pie chart if one wear = one day for some reason. What visualization will you choose? Also, will you normalize to a year standard? Because you may have had some bags for longer than others. So if you have Bag A for 200 days and wore it 30 times, it's still less frequently worn, in a sense, than Bag B that you've had for 100 days but wore 50 times. Geez, let me get my nerdy self out of these comments ...

I’m still new to luxury, and I’ve possibly gone overboard on preloved. I have been using an app to track my bags and shoes and their cost per wear. Trying to get most of my cost per wear figures down to something reasonable before I buy any more. Seeing that I have bags that are still at over $100/wear helps me pump the brakes.

  • @deborahcurtis1385

I'm the opposite. Because I have undervalued bags, but they're high quality. For instance I have a Bally lizard skin bag in purple, it's fantastic. It's large, and this goes with the larger bag aesthetic. But how much did I pay? A whole $50.
Yes that's right, $50. It's authentic, I got if from someone who bought it at a household auction and at the time didn't realise what I had.
It's been advertised by another owner for $1750 but I wouldn't part with it. It's my bargain and it has a story. All my bags are like this pretty much.
I like quirky bags with flair. When I buy I'm thinking of what's in my wardrobe to go with it.
I don't care at all about having upmarket or holy grail bags. I enjoy the design factors and love renovating a bag to bring it back to life.
Instead of being minimalist I'm maximalist but then I stop. The last bag I got was an Alexander Wang Rocky bag in a lilac. $110 only.
It's a wonderful bag, so cute and tough at the same time, I wear it crossbody. I fall in and out of love with my bags and I always have one on display at any time to keep it simple. It doesn't worry me that this bag is no longer in fashion, because intrinsically it's great design. I'm more adventurous than most people with bags but that's just me. If I'm thinking of buying a bag I asked myself if I have anything similar already an if I do I stop.

The feeling of high-quality products can only be felt when you are consuming at the counter (the service and the teller give you the atmosphere and attitude) as soon as you walk out of the counter, it is basically the same as the ones bought on the street. I personally think that high-quality products have been exaggerated too much, not as good as *condup* . smart move
