It seems unnecessary, because a normal plain smooth edge along the top of the cylinder should be sufficient for holding up the stainless steel housing containing the water filter.
At 3:47 there should be a rubber gasket on the screw portion that the filter screws against. The leaking part in your original can be replaced for far less than a new system.
