You missed gloves. I find gloves are so important getting shot in the fingers hurts so bad
Yup :( Even had some examples behind me and totally forget... stupid one to forget too, finger shots really sting.
Don't forget a cod piece, getting shot in the dick hurts so much. I got shot by a sniper my balls swelled up.
Yeah I was shot in the back of the hand at point blank range by a teammate once.
Australia would be a terrible place for airsoft. You'll think,
"Wow, that hit hurt more than they usually do."
Then you look down and find a snake hanging off of you.
Me literally just ordering a full Spetsnaz loadout: *sweats nervously*
I remeber my first loadout. God I'm so dumb lol. I thought it looked good but it's so bad now that I think about it
Same and that was before COVID and my local fields are still shut😭😭😭
Hey man, I know this comment is pretty late, but that is for a reason. I wanted to get into airsoft after watching youtubers play. It looked so fun but I had no idea how to even start. I watched this video, went out to buy a $100 gun and some glasses, and went to an indoor arena. It was so much fun! I have since went to large milsims in different states and such. I was scrolling on youtube again today and saw this video, and I was reminded of when I first started. So I just wanted to say thank you sir, for making this video and getting so many people, me included, into airsoft!
I can’t seem to find a good beginner gun, what would you recommend or maybe what did you use your first time?
Clarisse go it evik for airsoft gi if you are in the US and look at some g&g stuff. They have guns for under $200 that are really good
Clarisse you could check out CYMA one Evike or Airsoft GI. Their guns are incredibly reliable and cheap
Only item you neglected to mention is hydration. This might be my experience given that I’m in a bit of a drier region, but I’d say the most common injury I see (aside from the ankle injuries you mentioned) are heat casualties.
A camelbak, a canteen you can carry on the field (so with a pouch) something like that can keep you running on the field and enjoying the day instead of ending up with a headache.
Most of the fields I’ve played at require you have some sort of hydration with you on the field.
Otherwise, great starter list / introductory video!
I forgot gloves also (despite having a pair behind me) but that's a good call, when I come to refresh this video I'll definitely include hydration, thanks! :)
@@nathentownsend3592 unfortunaly common sense is not that common anny more
This is by far the best Airsoft Beginners Tips video I’ve seen
I saw one that was like 1000 dollars. Backpacks, food, batteries, oil, food, like no one needs that lol
Lmg mounted And loaded yes, you the first thing you need for airsoft is a plate carrier with carbon plate inserts, $1500 M4 that ejects shells, $300 1911 that also ejects shells, the most expensive bbs, full ghillie suit some for urban environments too (if it doesn’t exist have it custom made), high quality oil and tool set, ACH level IIIA (because bbs can definitely go through lvl 2 lol), 5.11 tactical backpack, and a bunch of patches.
Guys please remember gloves, not just for bbs but scrapes and collisions with nature
Really meant to mention them, was the one thing I forgot :( Even had some to talk about types behind me! Gloves are almost as important as good boots!
i cant say ive been sot in the hand but i have shot someone in thiers was bruised for 2 weeks
Bayley Anderson this video is about air soft but this story is about paintball. Always get gloves. I was slipping down a slope in the fires and I was grasping for something to hold onto to stop me from falling into enemy fire, when I spotted a small plant. I grabbed it. Big mistake. It was a stinging nettle
Man this is probably one of the best most straight forward guides. Got me to play airsoft like 7 years ago, had to stop by to thank you for the solid advice that potentially saved me a lot of money.
He’s out here with rigs and masks and stuff and I’m over here playing against my friends 500 FPS sniper shirts less in his backyard
Backyard airsoft with your buds is fun. I remember using my buddy’s L96 sniper rifle and he was using his m249. I snuck around on him and peeked a corner and shot that sum bitch on the middle knuckle lmao 😂 good times.
@@Scoofus_ were you aiming for the knuckle? Cause if so, you sir are Satan's worst nightmare
@@froggman66 yes. Some fields don't allow 500 fps guns. Really the limit for outdoor fields or where you want your guns to be if you are playing outside is around 400 to 450
Another tip, make friends everybody there has a common hobby and when your playing to together you can make best friends when playing. Also a way to do this, is it somebodys alone call them over to your table and start a conversation.
I met my ex on SC viper. Opposite teams, we kept butting heads ironically she was their with her bf at the time, we exchanged numbers, kept in touch and ultimately went out like a few months later.
I just went airsofting for my first time today. It was by far one of the most fun things I have ever done! This was a really helpful video!

We’ve got an alternative Called gelball or gelsoft where you shoot small orbee like gel balls out of a gun like air soft and its fun. It’s like a combination between paint ball and air soft
No idea if you're still reading comments on this old video but it really helped a lot! There's a lot of North American youtubers giving advice to beginners that doesn't really apply as much to UK citizens. Gonna give airsoft a go with some uni mates this year! Cheers!
Watching and planning a return :) Hope you have a good first forray into things! Airsoft is a ton of fun and glad to have helped even a little introducing someone to it.
I don’t even know if you’ll see this as I’m responding a year after the video was posted but thanks a lot. Every thing you mentioned help, especially the site locator. Keep up the great work.
I entirely agree with most of your recommendations, but I have a couple suggestions. First, if you are going into a CQB/CQC environment, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AN ATHLETIC PROTECTOR/NUT CUP. As a player, and occasional ref, I CAN'T COUNT how many times I have been/seen players shot in the junk. While generally it's not a huge deal, and it won't happen often, but when it does you will be very unhappy for a while. (Short side story, had a player get hit in the junk from 15 feet away, and was in so much pain he stripped off all face protection, and puked on the spot. I'm not kidding when I say this will make you SO much happier in the long run) Second, for those who do wear glasses, make sure you find goggles that can accommodate your glasses without pushing them around too much OR being too loose. If they are too tight, you may find that they are hard to get on and off, and then end up making your head/face hurt, but if they are too lose they might not protect your eyes and end up causing MANY more issues for you.
Just a couple of recommendations from my experiences as a ref, and a player
We got a real MVP right here. Looking out for us. A true champion of the people
I mean, Airsoft isn't a sport for everyone. Got to be okay with the down sides. But hey, both my hobbies are fairly dangerous
Btw Wasted, if you come to the US and want to try out some of the airsoft thats's in the smaller communities, come to Michigan, where you get every experience. Everything from hot, and sunny, to a real blizzard. The field I play on has a 16k sq ft indoor field in an old factory.
Oddytwin thanks for the recommendation on the glasses but for me I have learnt to rather just take of my glasses and leave it with someone who isn't playing or leave it in the car
Step one: Move out of Australia

1# Croccs - Tactical battle-ready shoes that everyone can get
2# Mittens - Most comfortable hand protection
3# The hoodie - Nothing says chad more than a 5-year-old hoodie that you only wear at home now
4# Second hand AR with a broken fire mode switch - Yep, my trigger finger is that quick. definitely not going full auto indoors.
maybe one of the most complete and well explained "airsoft tutorial" on youtube. congrats!
does the can't get a weapon in the uk before a certain number of games apply to two tone guns and if so can you own a two tone at the age of 16?
SKUMMASBAGGUS I didn't know any of that thx.
I only asked as I needed one for a costume I'm throwing together for an event and for the character I'm dressing as a two tone works just fine.
On the point of a realistic gun when I can legally buy one could I not just re-spray the one I have or remove the two tone paint or is that not an option?
The funniest memory I have playing airsoft was I think my 3rd game, so I was really new to it, but I had joined the military a year before hand so I was much better in fire fights and tactics than most people there. Everyone knew I was new to the sport, and expected me to be pretty bad at it. They realized I wasn't when I cleared a 2 story building and took out 9 people by myself.
Mad to think that this was the video that got me into airsoft and what to buy. It’s fun to look back and see how much times have changed with my kit since this video
That's awesome! Thanks for coming back and letting me know, really cool hearing how this helped people get started :)

Great vid! I got a two tone gun years ago and ended up not even being able to go and sold it, I have now decided I definitely am going to get into it and I already told myself I won’t make that mistake again,
it completely makes sense to just go and play a few times over weeks and months before getting a gun, and also by then you will be able to get your UKARA defence and buy a decent gun that ISNT in a bright and goofy two tone,
You told me it wouldn't hurt. But then my first session was with all gas and most of them being like 300 FPS+ heavy BB's.
Honsetly, even if I was gonna cheat, I would never want to cheat with those guns pointing at me.
It kind of hurts really. Hahaha. Some people get wounded by the bb's too.
@@fayevibar7560 yeah, I shot somebody sub 3 metres in the hand with a gun that shoots .2g at 320 FPS.

Joshua Latham army surplus gear is crap, I don't play airsoft but every gun gear I buy is usually from civilian companies. They just do it way better.
Me, always liked Camo from a young age , has been shooting constantly sense a ridiculously young age. Is into motocross so already owns a lot of goggles that are rated for a 110 mph 14oz rock = I was WAY more prepared for airsoft then the rest when I first started out 6ish years ago
Thanks alot, really helps to have an honest review of someone who has experience with the sport can give some good tips and ideas for gear.

“If the glasses break you won’t get injured so wear these instead”
Even they don’t injure you I would be way to scared anticipating my glasses breaking
I think he meant to say if the BB breaks when it hits the glasses, it wont hurt you as its solid glass/plastic instead of mesh. XD
This video has been really inciteful and helpful in understanding the initial costs. Thank you!
I haven’t gone airsofting yet but I did buy a co2 SAA 6 gun and a 1892 lever rifle. I really hope I didn’t waste a lot of money (especially since neither of them are semi or fully automatic) and I understand the point of trying airsoft first, but I feel like even if I don’t like airsoft, they’re still really neat to have. I’m just waiting for a cooler day.
I have a friend who plays in a Tank top and shorts
Jade Dragon 2098 I used to play airsoft with my mates in tank tops and shorts but I could never play like that in paintball.
I’d highly recommend some decent optics as well. Red dots are great for smgs and assault rifles, they really help since when you use iron sights you have the line up the front sight post with the back one, which really affects target acquisition
Thank you for this video, I'm really looking forward to starting out in airsoft and didn't really know where to start.

Step 1: don’t have a poor, average salary.
It's tough when you are young or struggling on income for sure, I've been there myself... but not impossible. Depending where you live there can be very good second hand markets both on kit and AEGs themselves that saves a ton over buying things new with honestly little downside if you are willing to learn maintenance. Sites vary, but there are also places that focus on making the experience cheap.
If travel is the issue, then I feel ya... not much you can do if there's no site near you unless local laws allow for setting up something yourself or local club games, but airsoft is definitely not dominated by money, just does need a little investment to enjoy.
I've personally only ever bought 1 new rifle, the rest have been second hand, and the one new one was from the cheapest end possible. I'd rather work on them and save cash!
I’m 17 and work part time min wage at a gas station and I can easily afford Airsoft. Now, I had to switch to Airsoft from paintball because it’s WAY more expensive. But Airsoft is realistically really cheap, and anyone who has a job can scrape together a couple hundred bucks to start out, and just rent if you really wanna play.
Howie Mandel and if it’s still tight, ditch all the bullshit MilSim stuff. 90% of it is costume stuff anyways and is totally unnecessary for the average player on the average field
I'm sorry but I have to agree, don't get into airsoft if you don't have money, you'll only be teasing your self by looking at all the shit you can't afford xD
Late to the party but as someone who’s looked for a long time to get into this hobby, your video has pushed me a bit closer. Great vid and advice - Alex

Very good video. It covers some very introductory matters well - especially for those who think it would be "uncool" to ask about it. The cats didn't bother me. I agree adding hydration and mentioning the gloves would be a good edit.

Btw, two years later and your video is still quite true and relevant. Useful for first time players. I know I was so many probably are too, nervous when they first go play.. Its like that first day at a new school. You dont know what or who to expect, you arent sure what to do.. you are intimidated. I am comfortable now because I found everyone I played with to be helpful, willing to give advice, fair, and I got to try a variety of different types of guns.. People are usually very willing to show and demonstrate the weapons they use to you. Get past the butterflies in your stomach the first day and you will probably find yourself playing something you really enjoy.

Having played paintball for years,, I kinda know what to expect. A friend recommended the CYMA M-14 full size and it works wonderfully. Comes from the factory with a 6.05mm barrel, fairly tight tolerance so must use quality bb's and I find it works best with about 32gram bb's. What you said about face and eye protection cannot be stressed enough. Do NOT skimp or be cheap about the face and eye protection you buy. Often you may come around a corner and exchange shots with an opponent at close range. Getting hit in the face at close range is something you will not soon forget and if it hits an eye, you just lost one. Protection is number one.
Good advice:
As he mentioned, a lot of times you probably missed the enemy. So you should invest in a tracer unit to see where your bbs are going. It can help you lead your shot if you’re firing at a moving opponent.
It will also give you a better idea to determine if you hit somebody or not. And if somebody claims that you didn’t hit them with a ref or something, you know they’re lying.
Or use a flashlight. 🤷🏽♂️
Two great guns for a beginner-intermediate level are the KLI baba yega gas blowback sidearm, and any m4 from the arcticus m4 series. It’s what I use and they are snappy for their price.
Me going out and buying a gun and 5k bbs before even looking into where the closest arenas may be:
Interesting.
I have one field about 3hours awayvif goikg on bike but with car only 56min but i dont have a car -_-
@@tomi9562 i don't think Google maps knows your biking speed. Average is 6mph, meaning the driving time would been to be based off driving 18mph to be accurate. But younger people might be able to go 2x as fast, I assume you are young. So 12mph and 36mph respectively. I assume the driving speed on Google maps is the streets speed limit and a majority of the drive will probably be 55mph. For an average of 50 given stops, traffic, and slower streets. 50/3 is still over 15mph which would be really hard to do. I would expect a biking trip to take 6-10x the driving time, realistically. So something like 6-10 hours 🤔

Just a note I would like to point out that buying your bb's before you visit a site is not a very good idea. The site I mainly play at is a bio bb only site since it is in the forest and the landlord wants to keep it safe for animals when people arent playing and just likes to keep the natural area as clean as possible. Shooting white plastic or any other bb besides ones they have verified will get you sent home for the day. Check your sites requirements.
I get ya sir, but you should be able to check that in advance - if they have rules like that and don't advertise it on their website then that's pretty unfair honestly - and often sites will charge a premium above local or online shops, and at least in the UK, are frequently run by individuals with limited stock and can run out of the ammo you'd like as the day goes on... which means making hop adjustments and all sorts, I've even had a day ended because the BB's on sale just refused to feed with my tightbore barrel.
I'd just recommend reading up on the site in advance and making sure you adhere to the site rules, which is sound advice regardless honestly! :)
Bio grade bb’s are fun until someone wears an screen mask and looses an eye! Then landlord faces lawsuit! DUMB!
@@houstonvolleyball6201 that's literally the reason why everyone says not to buy mesh eye protection

You also have a rather well balanced opinion that takes into account a lot of what is noobs are thinking about and steer us in the right direction. I look forward to other posts! Good job.
