  • Incomplete video on how to mod steel rims to get a mad offset.
    The video seems to show a finished crooked rim, but that isnt the case. RoughBalanced it several times and took it to an tyreshop and it was 00-15 unbalance = Better than it was unmodifyed..

    Started doing this on a set of 16" Ford C-Max/Focus/Mondeo Steels.
    Doing two for the rear of a '71 Beetle (modifying all four Hubs for Discs, all Drums at the moment).
    They're the Riveted/Spot-Welded type, so no cutting/grinding involved, and the holes drilled aren't large enough to need inserts welding in.
    I'll be able to just offset the holes, and weld inside each one onto the surface underneath.
    Got one separated, but managed to partly flatten a section of the Rim edge when pressing the Centre out with a Hydraulic Press, must have drilled one of the welds slightly off-centre.
    Luckily I have a set of four to get two good Wheels from.
    Fronts will be matching 'Space-Savers'.

      hey! don't you talk smack about RWD volvos! ;)
      how did you align it before welding?
      i'm going for the same "flip-mod", but on my V 240, with citroen 16 inch steel.
      what have you used?

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  7 років тому

      Haha ye, volvos are the best!
      Oh nice, is it the citroen ones with few a far between-holes?
      When i cut the welds, i kinda of cut around the edge of the "spoke". The thing u flip around. so u get a clear line when u hammer the thing back on. Then i spinn it in my jigg and see where it "throws" and tap alittle. Its alot of up and down in the jigg. ...Alot.
      But it go very well and easy. Try to see how much they wobble as stock, then u get a clue of how good they are.
      I used later model wheels from volvo (after 08-)
      Good luck with ur build, dont forget to show pics! :)

    I have rims for my F250 with no centers. I want to have centers cut and weld them in. How accurate does runout have to be and how do you align the centers with the rim when you weld them up so they don't wobble? Thanks

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  5 років тому

      Just make sure it's a good press fit. That helps to keep it from moving when welding.
      But other than that, just use clamps to keep it in place.
      And take your time balancing it. Little taps all around to make it less and less wobbly.
      Good luck! 😊

Then u place it and hammer it down with the same steel rod u used to get it out. Depending on how far down the edges go before it gets into a tight fit; i used the sledgehammer directly onto the center, since these rims have an rly high ET(52). Its all about repetition. Cassette Laser is it not lining up good when u hit back in? keep at it and tap it where the highspots are. put in ur car/jigg and spin it and continue like that til Ure happy.
      if it's twisting when u weld u can clamp it down and tack weld on low settings. I've had some trouble with welding some wheels where the stupid thing wouldn't sit still and it moved whatever I did :p

    Is this bad for your car? Any dangers to it?

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  7 років тому +1

      Vince Bmx The "bad" things I can think of is Rly minor.
      unbalance can put extra wear and tare on bushings or stuff, but that can be said about anything.
      the load on the bearing can be different, but I doubt it's so much it will wear.
      ppl have been putting wide wheels on car since forever, so just make it balanced and it should have no negative setbacks :)

    • @RubyWitDaUzi59
      @RubyWitDaUzi59 7 років тому

      creamtube thank you! And what is your technique for diy balancing

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  7 років тому

      Vince Bmx its all a time wasting operation X) so much tapping and throwing it on my jig and spinning it. alittle tap over here, back on the spinning jig, take it off, hammer/tap, back on.....X20, can go easy with some wheels, some are hard.
      I have a new way of turning the center, but havnt tried it yet. it's a much easier way, so keep a look out for a vid in the future ;)

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  6 років тому

      Michele Guerri this is one of the pains in the buttox! Sweep the grinder back and forth til it's smooth. Then smash like mad once again. Make sure u grind in a very slight angle down on the flat part of the center(the thing u wanna flip around), this will make sure the 90degree weld is as thin as possible, if not totally grinder away.
      Then hammer with a solid iron bar. Just ask again if it isn't working! Love to help :)

    • @creamtube
      @creamtube  6 років тому

      Ure right, thats the right way to go! Saves tyres and fuel. Its truly an inconvenience with the valve on the other side but its kinda an easy fix to weld it and drill a new hole :) .......all tho i never do that on the wheels i sell, noones questioning it xD

    • @ytaky
      @ytaky 6 років тому

      creamtube guess its "dont fix it if it aint broken" kinda thing 😂 ..on a serious note ive seen valve adapters or longer valve housings.. like the ones you see on truck wheels specially on double wheels that might be an easier/faster fix althought making a new hole and welding the old one is a no-brainer! Good work bro, im thinking on gettin some steelies like these for my car! Gives out an oldschool vibe and i like it! Peace
