The quasi-spritual sequel to this somewhat is Cars 3, believe it or not. A lot of the original devs staff were brought back by Disney to develop Cars 3. It ain't no Split/Second, but it is a pretty damn good racing game.
Playing this game brings a UNIQUE feeling of being on a chase in an action movie. For me, it has always been the natural successor to the Burnout series.
The fact that this play session came to pass randomly after Max was discussing and ranking his favorite video games of all time is a testament to how fun this game is! Max was like, “Oh man, this game is so much f***** fun chat… matter of fact, lemme call the guys!!!” and they played this until the stream ended!!!
This brings so much joy to me watching people having fun in this game. It was pure gem from the first time I saw it back on release. This and Pure are my favorite racing games forever, man.
The editing is a piece of art. The Scrublord peaking his presence, Crazy Talk in action, the cracks in Max's screen when he gets wrecked, everything is just so godlike
So I've been watching group compilations for _years,_ on and off UA-cam, and I gotta say -- MAD shoutouts to whoever edited this video. This is one of the cleanest edit jobs I've seen, even considering that the vast majority of it is one person's perspective. The eye goes to the bits like the damaged screen and distortion after the big hits, but honestly, while those are def impressive, those are icing on the cake. What really impresses me is the _enormous_ amount of underappreciated work that had to go into separating out the music and other game audio, so as to make sure the music flowed smoothly across multiple edited clips rather than being a jank mess of skips and interruptions while also preserving the in-game effects and the multiple voice tracks. This is a very impressive edit job even before the addition of further sound effects, vocal filters, video effects like after the crane golf swings, zooms, and all the other little details that really make it shine. I hope the editor is proud of this job, because they deserve to be!
Also 4:05 or so -- Criz has _great_ timing and delivery for someone who I gather doesn't do this kind of performance on the regular like Max and crew do. Extremely good "villain racer" energy coming off like two prominent "line reads" as it were with the bridge and the ship drop. Really matches the energy of the video and the editing to highlight those moments also greatly enhances it. More kudos there.

I was just talking about this the other day. With all the power of the current systems and online capabilities , why has there not been more driving games like these. Split Second, Motorstorm, Burnout...all such amazing games that just don't get made anymore.
There is an indie game on Steam called Close Call, it's a spiritual successer to Split/Second. There is only one dev so it's going to take time to complete but it's coming along nicely. Straight up have a Transformers stage where some of the power plays involve those impossibly massive vehicles swerving into the track, and the route change 3 bar moves are all brief clashes of them fighting. (because good lord those are destructive!) Throw in one that is 'totally not Ace Combat/Wingman' with smaller 'plane debris hits the track' and bigger 'the dogfight forces a route change' as well. There's a lot one could do as homages or crazy nonsense with license/Collab material.
