On the earliest Carvan albums Pye's singing can sound a LOT like Robert Wyatt. I may have told this story before but about 20 yrs ago I turned a much younger friend onto some Canterbury bands - Softs, Caravan, Hatfield, NHealth -- but in a general way -- he wasn't intimately familiar with all the material. And one day he wrote me and said his local radio station had played some early Caravan and apparently Robert Wyatt was sitting in with them. After we talked some more it became clear there was no Robert there -- he was just hearing the Robert in Pye's voice/style. Which makes a kind of sense since Pye succeeded Robert as Wilde Flowers' lead singer. And as time went on Pye sounded less and less like Robert...

I have been researching Caravan for a long time in my country, in Brazil. I will try to understand your interview in English. Thanks.

This is wonderful! Gosh I would kill to meet Pye! I know the background music is “For Richard” live but what concert is it from? I don’t hear Geoffrey Richardson, so it must be pretty early!
