And THAT is why people were so mad at the Black/White anime when it came out and soft reset everything. One of the last hype things we saw happen was this BANGER battle, and then they have Ash get blitzed by some dude JUST STARTING because they nerfed Pikachu from the jump
If Cynthia isn't the toughest trainer she's in the top 3. She's definitely responsible for the most trauma in pokemon. Don't believe me? Play her piano intro
Cynthia in the anime is canonically the second strongest trainer before Ash became number one and even then people argue whether Ash beat Leon legitamitely and even more so people argue Cynthia would have won had she mega evolved Garchomp instead of dynamaxing togekiss.
