That Cirie and Michaela scene is one of my favorites. Not only does it show generations coming together, but it also showed how far out of her normal self Michaela had to go just so she wouldn’t be seen as an “angry black woman.”
And people still refuse to see it and choose to live in ignorance
"out of her normal self Michaela had to go just so she wouldn’t be seen as an “angry black woman." So she is the stereotype? great observation!
Hey that one time Colton wasnt brutally unbearable
Entertainer Ev didn’t he quit like two days later too lmao
@Dan Chai And then fate was cruel, and Caleb died before the two could marry. I don't like Colton, never will, but he didn't deserve to lose his fiance.
Entertainer Ev I don’t like him but I felt for him at that momement
dude071297 just terrible that that happened. Caleb was a good guy
@@dude071297 he seems nice outside the game
Oh Cirie....She is one of the best players ever on this show. She is so wholesome ❤❤❤
I jus want her to win 😔
❤
This video just reminded how much I hate both Tom and Rodney, my goodness. Tom literally said he would’ve shot Clarence, holy crap.
It's interesting how loved Tom was in Africa and All-Stars, because he had quite a few controversial moments.
Eager Turtle Tha’s the scary part to me. They weren’t even controversial in the public eye until many many years later
Exactly, even after he apologized everyone ganged up on him for virtually nothing
Michaela and cirie’s conversation was wholesome, they would’ve been a great final 2
I wouldn't have wanted them both in the final two because then I wouldn't have known who to root for I love them both
Big Tom is awful. What Clarence did was a mistake, but Tom saying this after Ethan's comment "If I had a gun I would soot you" is horrendous and if this was 10-15 years later a much bigger deal would have been made of it.
Ethan: "If you were in the army and made a bad judgement call they'd kick you out-
Tom: "Hell, they'd shoot you!"
Ethan: ....(WTF) "They'd shoot you!"
@@ethangc081 fr, big toms the man!
@@jellydonuttv1101 me and you have very different definitions of the man
@@kjo164 How so?
@@ethangc081 that’s mob mentality man. Groups of people devolve into something horrible when they have someone to be upset at
that clarence scene is tough to watch. he made a huge mistake but tom was really belligerent and pretty terrible to him
That's part of why I put the Cirie/Michaela conversation right afterwards, talking about "acting regular" and all the coded language and behavior that black people often face. If only Clarence had someone he could talk to during that whole thing. It almost felt like he wasn't even comfortable talking to producers in confessional about how he felt.
Joshua Dobrow People hate Tom because of AS, but he was as horrid in Africa too.
A huge mistake? Fuck off I hate you bitch
@@a.jdeets5527 ik im a year late but despite being the epitome of saying things that haven't aged well he was actually kinda funny at times in Africa but nah in AS he was unbearable cuz of how incredibly stupid he is
@@Iconickhalif That actually was a mistake on Clarence's part, because in a situation where there are limited food rations, taking more than your fair share is naturally going to cause tensions with everyone else
Big Tom’s obsession with Clarence was so creepy
Korekiyo
Thsi comment confused me cause of his race or ???
@@reydaviber2482 The whole time there Big Tom harped on Clarence for the smallest things and made them 10 times bigger than what they were that’s why they said Tom is obsessed with Clarence. Hope this cleared it up a little more
@Aliana Wood no what it’s about his race what
@Aliana Wood just cause of his race he got on him if someone else ate the beans that was white he would not care and explode on him like that
That conversation with cirie and michaela gets me emotional every time 😭
Why is everyone upset that he opened a can of food for someone who clearly is feeling ill. It was her decision to open the can and he’s the one who gets yelled at? If you’re a group of 8 you need to remember that one of your 8 isn’t feeling good.
Because he ate the food for himself (even though he said he opened it for Debbie) when none of the 8 players were supposed to have it at all. He shouldn’t have done that. I do feel bad that Big Tom was a hard ass to him, but he’s right. Personally if I was one of those 8 players and I came back and I knew some one took a can I would be like wtf.
Yeah, I’m with Andrew here. We understand the need to give the food to a sick player, but Clarence definitely took advantage of the situation to have some for himself as well. Do I get why he did it? Hell yeah. Would I have been upset if I was in his tribe? Definitely. I’d have a hard time trusting him after that.
That being said, Tom took things way, way too far.
Here's the thing I would have been upset but not make a big deal out of it especially after clernence said he just wouldn't eat for a day than the problem is solved
@@andrewmarinaccio3122 understandable , I get it I really do. But you'd seriously say something as low as "I'd shoot you if I could" especially if he's the only black man from what it looks like to be on tribe
@@andrewmarinaccio3122 I think her name was Diane.
Every time I watch kellee and the other women go through what they did on 39 makes me sob.
I haven’t watched it yet, what happened?
@@trinitycoll8627 One of the castaways was very inappropriate, and Kelley was one of the only ones to speak up about it. She was voted off the episode that she spoke up about it which is heartbreaking, but the only way the person was removed from the situation is because he escalated and harassed a crew member. It is very upsetting and reminiscent of our society's attitude around sexual harassment and assualt.
Honestly, Clarence made a mistake. But big Tom took it to a whole nother level. If that happened nowadays, it would have raised a much bigger controversy.
1:47 is the saddest part knowing how it ends...
How does it end?
Ruth van Hulst Colton’s boyfriend Caleb died in a work accident in 2014. So it’s really sad to see Monica say that he’ll see him soon and he’s sleeping under the same stars.
I heard that too 😢
Love the scene with Cirie and Michaela. I could watch Cirie on Survivor for another 20 seasons. Monica was very sweet to Colton too
I wish Colton could take his experience as a gay man in the Deep South and apply that to his interactions with other minorities. He knows what it’s like to be discriminated against and he’s obviously had a tough time because of it, it sucks to see how blind he was to his own racism. I feel for the guy and his hardships in one way but he also comes off as an entitled brat and I wish that wasn’t the case.
I kind of just wish Colton DID have a redemption type arch and was able to show all the LGBT viewers out there that everything is okay. Unfortunately that didn't happen and I'd probably say he's one of the worst survivor players ever.
He disgraced the game
Jordan Maze the worst by a large margin
He’s perpetuating the stereotype that we are all some dumb petty bitches. I hate him so much.
Yeah coltons the worst. We need more great LGBT+ role models in survivor. If only Colton could actually redeem himself, but it’s way too late now. He’s probably the worst castaway ever.
LGBT people contain multitudes. People should probably not be projecting what they want Colton to be onto him...That is none of his business. He is particularly brutal, but clearly that is his truth and a thing the game permits. The moves being unstrategic is one comment, but just him being framed as just a horrible person and a bad "role model" is weird and ridiculous.
I never watched Africa and that scene was very suspect. Once the man apologized they shoulda left it alone. But we know why they didn’t 👀
racism
Agreed, he handled it so well and took responsibility and apologized
@@OneBraveSoulBeauty yes, I agree. I also think that because everyone is hungry, they’re extra pissed off. Not that what they were saying was even close to be responsible or kind humans.
They definitely went too far but I see it as a heat of the moment thing. They were on the toughest season of Survivor with a limited food supply and this guy just ate a whole can of beans for himself and one other person on a tribe of 8.
Calling the race card on everything iz why people don’t take u serious 🤡🤡
Genuinely love that you've made this. Helps people understand how powerful Survivor can be
God I hate Rodney so much. And the Clarence scene will forever make my stomach churn.
Why I like Rodney but maybe because I grew up in Massachusetts so like I see at least five Rodney's a day
Or should I say rod dog
Big Tom was seriously the worst, you forgot to include when he tells the tribe he’ll continue to vote Clarence to teach him a lesson. If only he was swapped with Clarence and Samburu voted for Clarence to to leave because of his past votes. Then Tom’s racist ass and the Boran tribe would’ve been screwed. Samburu and Clarence deserved better.
Clarence got a raw deal, but Samburu deserved its fate; they were outplayed, even when it seemed like they would turn the tables.
I hope Michaela plays again ❤️
I FORGOT WHY I DIDNT LIKE RODNEY LIKE I WAS LITERALLY THINKING RODNEYS KINDA FUNNY ACTUALLY WHY DID I HATE HIM BACK THEN? THIS IS WHY
Rodney is great to laugh at but not with
Turtle I love you keep up the good work more survivor
If Big Tom played today and tried some of his interactions with Lindsey and Kim P he might have been edited more like Dan this season. I like some of his good moments but he had some bad ones too and the Clarence conversation was an example of that. Also Rodney handled the situation with Lindsey the exact opposite of Jack admitting his mistake to Jamal.
Exactly. Jack and Jamal handled it in a good, civil manner, but Big Tom was one of the most disgusting people to play the game.
I know you posted this two years ago, but I feel like a lot of people making these comments about Tom and other general comments that were made in earlier seasons of Survivor are from young people. As someone who was reaching adulthood in the early 2000s, it was just a different time period. Norms were different, boundaries were different. People could do and say things then that were totally socially acceptable that would be condemned now, so going back to something filmed more than 20 years ago and criticizing it for not being hip with the times is just weird.
@@Captain-Sum.Ting-Wongno it’s not.
This series is gonna be awesome!
This series is my new favorite. Good work, Turtle!!!
i literally just refreshed my page and this popped up
Love your channel, buddy. Keep up the great work.
Poor Clarence ! They didn't have to Gang up on him like that: 5 white men vs. 1 black man 🙄. One person could of told him why it was wrong and that should of been it.
Everyone hugging that poor kid crying was so wholesome.
Cirie in that scene...❤️❤️❤️
Yes, Clarence made a mistake, but Tom was handling the situation awfully, I can’t hear clearly how Lex and Ethan handled said situation, but they seemed to do a lot better than Tom
I showed some friends that episode because they were curious what Survivor was like in the early seasons; they still hate Lex and Ethan for siding with Tom.
@@Mentally_Will well you should've told your friends Ethan and Lex are pretty cool lmao (even tho Lex was an unlikable hypocrite in AS)
I don't know how I've never seen this series before. This is exactly what I love about survivor.
Colton: I want to change who I was from Survivor One World. Me: Well you miserably failed.
to think the Dan stuff in this video was right before the merge and him getting removed from the game. who knew 1 person could cause so much drama and controversy
“And it’s just like, and like, cause like, you like know?”
I can't see Sandra being so wishy-washy. She'd tell him "get the h*ll off me!"
@@rt66vintage16 Sandra would've likely threatened to kick him in the family jewels the next time Dan put his hands where she didn't want them
Yesssss. The reason I watch survivor. Glad that big tom’s consistent all season racism is included (he says anti native stuff in his final vote too)
Wish the moments where he called him “boy” were included. That wasn’t just my memory I don’t think
That Kellee + Dan scene didn't age well at all...
it happened in 2019, and dan got pulled from the game
Wait what happened
@@trinitycoll8627 He would make her uncomfortable by touching her so she asked him to stop and he didn't. He was given a warning for his behavior but later on he also touched a producer and that got him kicked off the show.
@@juliak9899 How disgusting is it that they only removed him once he turned it towards production. Screw the women playing the game but don't you dare come for the people in charge
@@rolandgreen7484 God I wanna puke. Glad I haven't watched this season.
Let's not forget Big Tom's comments towards Ethan at the auction
To be fair even the players back then (really Kim P.) know that it was a bit much back then
@@entertainer_ev2747 That's why Brandon ended up voting for Kim J at final tribal, because he loved that she called Big Tom out on being sexist/racist
Yo, just saying, Sean Rector's boot tribal council would fit perfectly for this series.
That whole episode could! Such a powerful moment. Especially for an early season!
@@eagerturtle4791 I'm so glad that Sean was on Survivor. He is one of, if not the most genuine and real person in Survivor history.
Lux That was so uncomfortable to watch for the first time.
Lux Agree, I’m not the biggest fan of Marquesas but Sean is definitely one of the best casting choices. Marquesas just doesn’t have a good cast and it’s hard to root for Kathy after her horrible AS appearance.
Marwuesas has one of the best casts weve ever had lol
Colton: I was mean and a coward in my season and i want to change that.
Me: You go Colton!
Colton: Throws a different plan at everyone and bullies again.
Me: NO COLTON!!!
(I hated Colton in One World, but i wanted to see if he actually matured and learned his lesson, and he did... for 3 days!)
i LOVE your videos
I don't know every season well, and never watched the season with the guy eating the food behind everyone back but talk about an over-reaction. And not one person could have stood up for him and made him feel better about the situation? He's still a person, ffs. And I do know that Ethan guy because I remember him having cancer... was surprised to learn that he is also a huge jerk. Not cool. Not a fan of any of those guys and also not a fan of any who was there and kept quite while they belittled that man over a dang can of food. Bunch of snots.
Tbh in that situation Lex and Ethan were actually fine but Big Tom was just vile.
I used to think ethan was nice he gives off nice vibes not anymore tho
I'm shocked Dan is still in the game. He's annoying, and whatever and like he's just a goat but it's too early to try and just bring a goat along.
Oop
this aged well
@@ryancoggswell how so?
How do you think a goat ends up at the end of the game for someone to win against them they have to be brought along you can't vote out all the goats and then at the end of the game wonder why there's no goats to bring to the end of the game what are you even talking about
“I was the sweetest kid in the world” 😂
Yas!! Thank u for ur service
Holy shit, I’m just imagining how much worse Worlds Apart could’ve been if Mike didn’t save whatever enjoyment was left alive with his comp beast wins..
We were decently close to having a FTC of Rodney, Mama C, and Will.. or maybe even sprinkle a Dan in there if it shook out differently
Mama C winning would actually not have been that bad of an outcome, because aside from her not really meshing well with Shirin, there wasn't anything particularly cringe I remember about her
@@NYChica23 not necessarily as bad as the others, but not really a compelling winner/story
It's very interesting how everything was different in like Season 3
Loves the worlds apartheid inclusion as this one gets forgotten.
Little things I’d love to see: a mash up of asian players be called sneaky and gay men get targeted for being “social”
I think Kenny and Shii Ann were the main ones called sneaky or devious but yeah it’s a good idea. Survivor can always use more minorities particularly Asians but from Bi Nguyen to Cao Boi to Mookie personality wise I think we got some variety there. Liz in Samoa also had a confessional expressing her worries about those stereotypes.
the King of Smash
Good idea for this series!
I love moments like this
That Colton moment was so sweet. Then...
"I ate some beans."
"If I had a gun, I would shoot you!"
That's a man that loves beans
why do people feel like game changers is a game bot season? just off the top of my head: cirie, brad, troy (short lived but still), sarah, michaela all had really interesting arcs where they grew. I understand if people don't like the season, but it's definitely got character in it.
It makes me so upset when tribes keep around Rodney’s or Dan’s but get rid of Lindsey’s and Kelle’s. If survivor is a microcosm of the real world this is as if a company CEO was sexist and the company knew it, but won’t do anything because he is a good CEO.
They did Kellee so dirty with the Dan arch
It is crazy how nobody reacted negatively when Tom said he would shoot Clarence if he had a gun.
Rodni never fail to make my blood boil...

That was Richard Hatch
Colton is someone that you either love or hate. I understand what he was saying completely. I feel horrible he couldn’t prove himself. And then he lost his fiance

"Durag" ...lol
Im a year late but these are monumental. I didnt notice how many off putting ppl they cast on the show🥴
Can’t believe they let Colton back. What a waste of air
I’m not gonna say for sure there is a clear racial bias going on in that clip with Clarence and Tom, but I will say for sure that three white people ganging up on a black dude over such a small issue doesn’t exactly translate well by today’s standards.
Its obviously racism
Monica is amazing casting
What’s sociocultural? I’m confused on the definition.
in reference to how our society handles or views certain cultures. So basically where we’re at as a society in how we treat or talk about some minorities for example. I believe it’s something like that.
in my own words, it combines society and culture. American culture can include things like beliefs of how people of different genders, races, sexualities, etc. are treated, and of course, these cultural beliefs have impacts on society (ie stereotypes, treating people differently, discrimination). These moments address these social/cultural beliefs that apply not just to the show, but to the county and the world in general
A lot of peoples behavior was VERY inappropriate from sexual harassment to making just awful comments🤢
The way that Lex handled the situation was the proper way to handle the situation he admonished him for it let him know that it wasn't the right call to make and it wasn't his call to make it should have been up to the tribe but the way that big Tom handled that was completely out of pocket and big Thomas from Virginia so you know that racism played a big part in his reaction
What kind of woman would raise a man like that very traditional woman either minority Irish or Italian
No Jamal and jack??
Given the episode came out only last night, I’d expect it to come soon.
There will be multiple parts to this!
Noice
"Im just saying... I think Women Should hold themselves to a higher standard than Men... Men are dogs; and we want angels..."
And that right there --- is the most deepest rooted problem in Western/American Culture.
michaelegend
I haven't watched Africa yet so I am not fully aware of the context, but I think most people in the comments would agree that this was an extreme reaction. Clarence made a mistake, but he apologized to everyone, and that should have been the cue to move on. Instead, they just intensified their attacks on him, all the way to using the military as an analogy to comment that he should be shot because he made a decision to support someone else. It's very disheartening. This isn't the military, it's a reality television show. Sure, you need to ration your food and you should consult the rest of your teammates first, but this was taken much too far.
And I have to comment on Dan. He absolutely sickens me. I cannot believe he was not only permitted, but showcased time and time again to touch all these women who clearly, calmly verbally discuss their discomfort. It makes me feel ill to think he was only ejected after he kept up his antics on a member of the production crew. I was digusted when I watched and did not complete the season when I realized he would not stop.
Big Tom was one of my favorites for the longest time. But his interaction with the other guy was absolutely disgusting. Saying that you were threatened to shoot. Somebody is pathetic. I don’t care if it’s a game or not calling you don’t go there. He made a mistake, don’t keep harassing him about it
Rodney is not seeing heaven lmao and big Tom I really think his personality was just too abrasive but I think he always had good intentions… just a poor old dude that doesn’t know any better lmao
Girl please. Colton was putting on a show so Tyson would comfort him. NGL I'd do the same, as Tyson is a bae.
Holy fuck the Clarence scene was atrocious. The white people just ganged up on him. Damn.
The fact that the women contestants have to walk on rocks in order to point out blatant harassment and disrespect is so frustrating and annoying it makes my face hot
I don’t think any castaway’s comments have aged as badly as Big Tom’s, aside from maybe Rob Cesternino’s.
I may not connect with Colton, but he really should've toughed it out to prove he had changed. He wasn't hated because of his preference, he was hated because of his nastiness and him being a quitter. I am a straight man and have nothing against your choice, but a quitter is a quitter.
Choice to quit or do you think being gay is a choice?
Little did we know that Colton was indeed not wearing a mask and truly was just that awful of a person
I really thought Colton was going to change and we were actually going to like him I was an idiot I thought we had pegged him all wrong and he just didn't know how to deal with the stress of being on Survivor and it came out and a toxic way but I was wrong and he's just a toxic person
Monica did not deserve what you went through this season I don't know why people treated her so poorly she was such a nice person she even gave up her reward so everyone else can eat and I can't tell you what she was thinking I can only assume but everybody else there was so much younger than her that I think she just saw them as her kids and she wanted to take care of them because what mother is going to sit there and watch their kids be hungry when they can do something about it well she probably annoying yeah probably did you deserve the disrespect that she got throughout the season absolutely not
While I love Big Tom, he was rude to Clarence. Clarence was a very underrated character, by the way
He is clearly racist but he’s crying about being discriminated against for his sexuality. People like that are gross 🤮
Colton crying gave me joy 🤷♂️Terrible person
big tom took it too far with clarence
If you're upset with Tom for saying "if I had a gun I'd shoot you," you should also be upset with Lindsey for saying "if you were my son I'd break your jaw." No one should be threatening violence, idk why people aren't calling her out too
I like michala but she’s volatile the talk with cirie was good and helpful. Dan is creepy.
Why is it when Americans have conversations, they use the word “LIKE” 50,000 times yet when one is interviewed they speak normal English with a maximum of the word “LIKE” used 3 times. It makes no sense to me. I averaged it to 1 “LIKE” every 1.3 seconds in a conversation. THATS INSANE!
I would like to see the data you collected on this subject because it's like such a weird study I mean like nobody even think to study this but I like it it seems like it would be an interest in study to do but like I said it's weird anyway I'm going to drop a like on the comment

S39 is unbearable to watch
Everyone judging Tom and Clarence situation from the comfort of their own homes with a fridge full of food. Those people were starving under a tree in Africa, probably dehydrated with fuck all sleep. Imagine your in that position and come back and someone’s eating the groups food with some lame excuse.
Clarence made a mistake and everyone knows that. But Tom went overboard with his response. Always thought little of him since. Said he would shoot him. That’s not a good look.
YES THANK YOU! Tom definitely went overboard--like really over the line. I hated that people were putting Ethan and Lex in with Tom. Ethan and Lex were just pissed because, as you said, they were hungry, thirsty, and exhausted. I hate that Ethan and Lex are still seen as awful people because they happened to be on the same side as Tom in regards to the argument
