    You will die even in creative mode.
    Unless you use a command for super regeneration.
    Then you just fall forever.
    Magic once again beats physics.

      I always liked Spumwack's dead sun theory, where the sun of the original minecraft people died and became a black dwarf. The people left their planet and exploded it to create a new star, while they landed on their previous sun and terraformed it by adding dirt and stone over it. This explains the unbreakable rock beneath the world. Also, the Sun and Moon orbit around the Overworld, and the stars also don't move, thus, in Minecraft's universe, the old Sun/Overworld is the center of everything.
      The Nether is simply a separate dimension, and the End is either an asteroid in space, or inside the core of the black dwarf.

    Plus, Minecraft doesn't really have gravity the way we think of it. Most blocks don't simply fall even when they should. Further supporting the idea that the world wouldn't get sucked into the black hole.

    It's a nice theory, but you're misunderstanding some vital physics here. Yes, the tidal gravity on the event horizon of a large black hole is tiny, but that won't stop you from falling in. It just stops you from getting ripped apart. You'd still get pulled in at a tremendously high acceleration. Which, on its own is fine, since gravity acceleration isn't true acceleration, and you don't experience any inertia.
    If however, you are being held from falling in by some force, it needs to fully counteract that gravitational force, and the inertia from this force, would utterly squash you. On earth it's this force that we feel, 1 g. If you're falling down you feel 'weightless' because then and only then, no force (aside from the minor air friction), is working on you.
    Also, a black hole isn't black because light cannot escape. It's black because spacetime is curved so much there, that the region's local time has a 1 on infinity ratio to any time outside of it. The region simply does not exist in our timeframe. Any light emited by things falling in the black hole is redshifted to infinity. So.. basically not there either.
    And from what I understand of hawking radiation, it's not so that the particles quantum tunnel out of the black hole, but rather that such a pair spawns right at the event horizon, with one of the particles pointed inwards, and the other pair outwards. Such pairs spawn everywhere all the time, but normally the recombine almost straight away after they formed, and the total energy difference is 0. But when they spawn on the event horizon, the inwards one cannot recombine with the other one, as it cannot escape from there. But the energy they used to spawn in the first place needs to come from somewhere, so it's drawn from the black hole, and the outgoing particle is the hawking radiation we could possibly measure.
    Alsoooo... you can escape the void just fine in creative :o You can fly out, even when you're already getting hurt. Just be quick enough to doubletap space to regain your flight.
    All this being said though.. it's a nice idea. Maybe it could be a neutronstar shell with a blackhole on the inside. The bedrock would be the neutronstar crust, and perhaps with the crust being uniform on all sides and a sphere, it may possibly -probably not- be stable with a blackhole on the inside. Of course all the blocks and mobs would need to be crazy strong to surive such gravity. But oh well.

    • @zfloyd1627
      @zfloyd1627 Рік тому +1

      Yeah. I think the real reason the void kills players is because there is no air down there, so players suffocate.

    • @MaxArceus
      @MaxArceus Рік тому +1

      @@zfloyd1627 That's a nice one, though, I do wonder why the air doesn't simply flow towards there, if you break a hole in the bedrock then.
      I think the REAL real reason, is cause it's a computer game, and they needed a border to their world, and something to prevent you from falling indefinitely :P

  • @lumps17
    @lumps17 8 років тому +16

    Quite a few arguements (no harm meant) 1. You can escape from the void in creative, 2. A blackhole right below bedrock would mean we would be experiencing several g's of force from the surface 3. The particles aren't moving the speed of light, 4. The sun and moon are on polar opposite sides to each other due to the game developers being lazy and not putting a seperate moon cycle like earth would have, 5. A black hole that is several trillion cubic kilometers seems extremely irrational, (I know minecraft is just a game, but this is a channel explaining phenomena in games, I just want to state my opinion)

      Did you watch the video?

    • @pantsupirateold5625
      @pantsupirateold5625 6 років тому

      lumps_END We wouldn’t experience any difference in the amount of force, G’s as a matter or inertia have nothing to do with it, as it is the Event Horizon that is the point of severe gravitational pull, and in the end it all add up, and once you have passed the Event Horizon, you cannot escape, not even light can which travels at C.
      Quantum Tunneling is the only know method of escape from the Event Horizon, and this adds up with the game, because as a matter of fact you cannot escape from the void once you pass its Event Horizon.
      This theory is a very appealing once since it makes sense.

    • @demohstens
      @demohstens 6 років тому

      Agreed!

  • @texivani
    @texivani 8 років тому +29

    Neat idea, my only gripe is the part about quantum tunneling. I'm pretty sure the particles don't travel faster than the speed of light, nothing does. Hawking radiation comes from particle/antiparticle pairs (which normally destroy each other), which form on the event horizon. Because one is directly outside the event horizon (the point at which the escape velocity is light speed), it is still able to escape as Hawking radiation.

  • @createdormadec.8298

    Oh... Oh no...
    All the science is wrong...
    First up, even _with_ the "tidal gravity" explanation, gravity is still extremely strong to the point that Minecraft's world would be completely torn apart. And if it somehow remained above the black hole (maybe floating in orbit), the gravity experienced on the surface would either be zero or enough to flatten the world into a space pancake.
    Secondly... Virtual particles can't really be seen... They're mostly neutrinos. Now if you don't know, a neutrino is a particle that is so small that *_billions_* of them from the sun are passing through your hand right now. _Without even one of them hitting your hand._
    And the gravitational lensing makes no sense - at close range, a black hole doesn't show you things behind it. You actually see the mass of black, as your vision pulls back until you can see a full 360 degrees around you. Now in my experience, you don't have spider vision when near the void, so we can count that is wrong too.

    • @pantsupirateold5625
      @pantsupirateold5625 6 років тому +3

      CreatedorMade C. - From the first paragraph I can tell you don’t understand the concept and science of a black hole.
      A black hole is alike a star outside of its Event Horizon which I will come back to, A super small black hole can be incredibly small. meaning it’s Event Horizon is much bigger before even getting near the core, I.e you will die before getting near the middle. And so on in parallel.
      Applying this logic, a shell can be formed around the black hole, and the bedrock being the part that just separates the point of return with the Event Horizon. Which is the point of no return which proves why you can’t escape once inside.

    well, the other possibility is quite simple, though possibly illogical. the void could be exactly that, a void, or bottomless pit. your death is either you committing suicide in an attempt to escape, or the game giving you mercy and putting you out of your misery of falling indefinitely.

  • @noraarcadia635

    My personal theory is that Minecraft is a prison for an Eldritch abomination and you're getting killed by it.

  • @deldarel
    @deldarel 8 років тому +11

    While I see how you make it work, it doesn't add up.
    You see, it's not the gravity itself, but the tidal forces that rip you appart if you fall into a black whole. If you fall into a supermassive one, you can fall many many kilometers until you actually die by gravity tearing you apart. The reason you spaghettificate in the first place is because the gravity at your feet is many times stronger than at your head.
    Those particles is not how hawkings radiation works. Hawkings radiation are virtual particles where one gets sucked into the black hole, making the other particle real. The thing, however, is that these particles are on the edge of the black hole, not in the black hole.
    And there is one small thing that ruins every 'minecraft orbits anything' theory: gravity doesn't behave like we know it. If anything, there simply is no gravity in the game. I would like to refer to 'Could planet minecraft actually exist' by It's Okay To Be Smart.
    The only explanation that really fits is that gravity doesn't exist and the whole world of minecraft is 'falling up' simulating gravity.
    Then why do you die falling through the bedrock? Easy: you suffocate as if you're in space.

    I have another theory, since the world is near a black hole, and time slows down near massive objects, (No i did not get this from Interstellar, I got it from a Stephen Hawking book) does that explain why Minecraft days are so short? To people in Minecraft, an entire day is only 24 minutes in our time, since their time is severely slowed down and ours isn't

  • @martijnvanweele6204
    @martijnvanweele6204 8 років тому +3

    Nice theory and well constructed too, but there are a few errors in your facts: 1. A black hole is not a region of the universe where space and time are warped, it is an object so massive that it creates a region in the universe where space and time are warped. 2. Your feet and legs, while standing upright, are also being pulled down with more force than your head on Earth, though due to you being absolutely tiny compared to the Earth, you don't notice this. In a black hole, however, which is relatively small for its mass, this difference in gravitational pull between objects at different distances from it becomes much more significant, so much so that it will not just rip you in half, it will spaghettify you until you are a stream of plasma of one atom wide... 3. nothing can escape from a black hole and nothing can go faster than light. What is happening with these particles is that they spontaniousely pop into existance with one half of the pair inside and the other half outside of the event horizon, the PONR of a black hole, this causes one of the two particles to inevitably fall into the black hole, while the other, which is still in the region where the escape velocity of the black hole is slower than the speed of light, has a chance to get away. 4. The idea of gravity at the event horizon getting weaker as it grows larger makes no sense. The event horizon is the area around the black hole at which point the gravity is so strong that it will not allow light to escape anymore, that is why it is the event horizon. The only way to enlarge the event horizon is to enlarge the black hole, which, in turn, would make it more massive and increase its gravity. A better explanation for why the minecraft world isn't sucked into the void would be the extreme durability of bedrock preventing it from being pulled in from just above the event horizon...

    That would be cool... but it doesn't explain why, in creative, if you get your timing right you CAN fly in the void.
    I have done it multiple times before and even was able to draw things on the bedrock with glowstone, then escape to the surface the same way I got out. Fun fact: Minecraft won't let you place blocks in the void. You have to mine away the bedrock and inset blocks inside it.

      Lethal Chicken no, what you said was that the sun and moon orbit the black hole but that's obviously not true, as you can see the sun and moon set in exact parabolas in relation to a large planet across the sky. If they were to orbit the black hole the same as you then you would be racing each other around the black hole or going around in different orbits entirely, so the sun might not set in the first place depending on the predicament. What the person who commented and you told him he was a dunce was saying is that the sun and moon are still orbiting your planet but the trajectory is being effected by the gravitational pull off the black hole. Learn your stuff you dunce.

    No mysteries, in the way games are coded, yourcomputer first generates a solid color background, then it can add tiles to form the world. You die to reset your character and avoid falling to much (althought, some mods just scroll the terrain to spawn you in the sky), if you teleport to aprox. -30 million blocks in the void you will be kick from your world or the game would crash, simply because a computer can't save such amount of data, so I don't recomend experimenting in your favourite world.

      Hello, I present to you said points.
      1) To hover above the EH of a black hole you would need to keep accelerating such that you would keep moving *exactly* away from it at near light speed. This is true regardless of the size of the black hole.
      2) Hawking radiation does not occur because of quantum tunneling. It occurs because of pairs of virtual particles appearing at the horizon.

  • @1_____________________
    @1_____________________ 8 років тому +15

    The fuck? This theory is so flawed...
    1. Only because it's huge doesn't mean it doesn't have gravity at all, especially since the "spaghettification" happens a few meters below the surface.
    2. You said yourself that the hawking radiation virtual particles are travelling (faster than*) the speed of light, wich the minecraft particles don't.
    *They don't, hawking radiation happens if a particle and antiparticle pair appear just at the event horizon at the speed of light. One is being sucked in due to gravity, the other one can escape.
    3. Gravitational lensing works by the photons changing their path due to gravity *around* the black hole, meaning you would still see the black hole in the middle of it. Or don't see the lensing at all since you said it was apperantly so huge.
    4. The acceleration stays constant.
    If you do a theory i would reccomend you second guess yourself every once in a while, that's it :D
    And of course, if theres anything flawed with my counterarguments, let me know.

      1. exactly. In fact, there is obviously nothing suspending the bedrock in place, so it should fall right in. If it had orbited, there should be no gravity at all and you shouldn't be able to fall through a hole in bedrock.
      2. hawking radiation is basically a black-body radiation. Bigger the black hole, colder its surface seems. The particles should not be visible at all, because they should be photons of microwave wavelengths, and with rather low intensity too. Based on the size of the overworld and the fact that it's flat, the black hole must be of gargantuan proportions. In such big black holes no spagettification is happening anywhere near the event horizon. You'd fall for days until reaching the spagetifying area near the singularity.
      3. exactly. Also, assuming the day-night cycle happens because the black hole rotates / the over-world orbits the black hole, the visible orbiting of the sun and moon should be non-linear. It should appear move faster near the midnight and slower at noon.
      4. actually it doesn't, because you fall into space which has increasingly stronger gravity.

      KohuGaly I ment 4 in the way that the minecrat void has the constant acceleration. If it was a black hole it would get higher over time. Other than that I'm happy I'm not the only one seeing it this way. The theory seems way too far fetched.

      Spiked Blueshell Minecraft actually seems to be happening at a quantum scale. Positions of blocks are quantized to specific xyz position-states. Mobs pop in and out of existence like virtual particles. Teleportation is possible. Also time is quantized to ticks....

    A new idea as to how the Void kills the player: When the player hits y=-64, all sensory input ceases, and the player's mind shuts down from the lack of input. Obviously timelapsed.

    Nice theory, but in creative mode you can survive being under bedrock indefinitely if you stay just below it, and you can pull yourself back out of the zone of the Void that kills you if you fly quickly enough. Based off these experiences I and other players have had, it probably wasn't/isn't meant to be a black hole.

    That isn't really how hawking radiation works. It's not because one of the spontaneous particles in the pair is traveling faster than light for a moment, that's still impossible. One particle spawns inside the event horizon of the black hole, the other spawns outside the event horizon, hence why it has such a small chance of happening.

  • @ecrafgaz

    Actually, you CAN recover from the void in Creative Mode. You just need to either, 1. Use the /tp command to teleport you above the Void, and 2. Simply flying to above y=-64 blocks.

    Hey lockstin I have something to contradict that theory, If you find the bedrock at the top of the nether and ender pearl through it you are in a world between the nether and the overworld and if you go too high in that "limbo" you die in the void, also in the end, or rather SKY dimension If you fall of the edge of the end "island" you die in the void so my theory is that the overworld is stuck in a "speedforce" bubble that stop the events of extreme pressure from being INSIDE the singularity and that the void is the singularity, which would explain the fact that you can't escape the world by flying up endlessly or by trying to break bedrock in survival. And yes I am implying that all the dimensions in the minecraft world also have a "speedforce" like bubble.
    Hope you like the theory :)

    1:15 and it explains why it says you fell out of the world, implying you were thrown out of the universe and into the place outside of the universe that follows the same name, the void, also the particles that used to be known as void particles or bedrock fog currently do not exist anymore without the use of mods that reimplement them, which do exist I know, this could also imply that the black hole of the void is dying away

    This is a cool idea but I think it is taking Minecraft too seriously. My explanation is the overworld is filled with "air blocks" which are invisible obviously but they exist as they have an ID. The void has no air blocks hence the suffocation, also it would be stupid to just fall forever...

    • @abyssstrider2547

    2:38 wait what? Quantum tunnelling causing subatomic particles to become faster than light? I'm not a physicist, but I believe the reason why these particles can escape is due to one pair forming on the event horizon, and the other forming just outside of it. No magical going faster than light here

      if the world covers the black hole, the bedrock is really strong and the black hole right in the center, then the world can't fall because it is pulled in every direction and can't break into pieces.

    You can survive the void damage with very high level regen. However, once you're past a certain point, the damage ticks don't take off health, even with no regen. I achived this with max regen and taking it off at -10000 blocks below the bottom of the bedrock layer/top of the void

  • @kai_unix

    "How does the Void KILL you?"
    By simultaneously hitting you because there is a "box" of death at a certain depth, and it works just as well as lava or arrows and zombies and such. its just anchored to the enemy instead of moving around in a grid based system.
    The particles must be just be dust or decoration. Literally just programmed to look like that...
    When you go really high in the sky and you can see the moon/sun below you, it is actually the fog system doing that, its one way of hiding blocks that are far away and away from you, so the game can get away with a little bit of rendering. In real life, if you went really high in the sky and it was very foggy outside, you wouldn't see it because there is something blocking it from you to see it. It would work just as much as a planet in the way of our sun whilst its cloudy.
    And if the void was actually "a black hole" then gravity would be as weak as the moon if the black hole was that big! Because minecraft is flat, and if it wasn't, then im pretty sure there would be a offset to grass blocks. And to top that, a whole lot of dirt and such to cover up the black hole would be pretty hard, and no matter how thick it is, it would be very flimsy and flexible of a world, and we know that minecraft is not so deep which also means that the mass will not be as big to make earth gravity (at least comparing our depth and also the black hole thing.) If it cracks or a whole chunk of the world breaks, then im pretty sure it would be going up into space or going down into the black hole, very very slowly, then speeding up eventually... But i'm pretty sure also that falling into the "void" would take quite a while, because of the giant black hole and us speeding up, sooo slowly.
    I think you need to do a bit more research onto this theory.

  • @LoreSeamstress

    This is actually supported by the recent "The Science Of" video on the Game Theory channel, where Austin calculates how the Nether and the Overworld exist together in a way that also allows for the Nether to have the 1:8 block correlation with the Overworld. It's a weird video, but still.

    You want to survive the void? Give yourself level 100 absorption and level 100 regeneration for 10,000 seconds and keep repeating the commands every time it almost runs out. You can just set up two repeating command blocks to do this without any more effort. You will literally fall until your computer crashes.

      +Robert Kelly Yeah, I think it's fascinating as well. Did you know that since a black hole doesn't reflect light, you can't really see them so the fact they can bend light is actually the way astronomers find them: they just look at stars and if one is either distorted or misplaced, it means there's a black hole between the earth and that star. Yay for astronomy classes! :D
