- Buddy Hield in the 2018-19 NBA season looked like a borderline star. He was putting up very good numbers and shooting the lights out, but he has yet to produce another season like that one. It looks like he fell off pretty hard. In this video, I talk about Buddy Hield's NBA career and what's going wrong. Enjoy!

It's more than just that, Luke Walton's system turned Buddy Hield into a ball-handler instead of an off-ball superstar he excels at, similarly to Klay Thompson. It meshed perfectly with Fox's lightning quickness and ability to get to the rim at will. Everytime I see Buddy run a Pick-n-Roll instead of curling off a flare screen, I always get angry the Kings fired Dave Joeger
stats say that the kings got better when they made buddy hield the sixth man tho... also what about this season? He’s starting and playing bad while playing more minutes then last year. People act like he’s some star but he’s really not he’s basically a super jj reddick which is still a above average player but not a star he’s a catch and shoot guy

Thats mainly bcs of coaching change, he was phenomenal in Dave Joegers fast pace offense and then Luke Walton come, one of the most overrated and generally one of the worst coaches today, plus Bogdanovic was taking more and more his minutes

I don't know why the Kings fired Joeger, he took this Kings team the closest they have been to the playoffs in over a decade. Luke slowed down the pace of a team that wants to play around one of the fastest players in the league, and even had Buddy running Pick-n-Roll with Holmes and Bagley instead of having him run around screens to spread the floor. Only reason Luke's incompetence isn't nearly as criticized as it should be is because Boylen somehow kept his job all last season

It's 2023 and no matter what his role is Buddy is continuing to make those 3 pointers. He's #29 in all time 3s made at 1705 after the 2022-23 season.

Okay, I'm noticing a trend when it comes to the last 2 Andy videos. Right after he starts to question a player, he has a good game (Bagley had 20/10 after his video, Buddy had a 6/11 3-point shooting night). Is it just me?
It’s because of the no trumpets Andy originally uses the best to start the video.

The team shifted their focus on Fox and Barnes so I can see why Hield is not doing well.
This season buddy has been shooting low efficiency but he definitely is having the best defensive season of his year
I am a Laker fan, and I saw what a terrible job Luke Walton did back when he was the Lakers' coach. He doesn't assign roles to players, and he basically says that all playing time is up for grabs, you just have to prove that you are worthy of them.
Sounds okay on paper, but what ends up happening is that nobody knows what they are supposed to be, and nobody feels any sense of security, because their minutes could be cut without warning. I've seen the Laker players fighting for touches, fighting for their own numbers, because if they didn't they wouldn't be getting playing time. Walton's coaching philosophy simply just does not foster good team chemistry, but rather it encourages teammates to compete against each other.
The Kings firing Dave Joerger was a head scratcher.

Last year after his contract he went downhill. Part of it could have been bc he was trying to outgun bogi everynight. As a kings fan i have been impressed with him this year. While his stats have gone down he has played a lot more like a team player and has been pretty solid for us.
Problems: 1 Luke Walton. It’s not the way Buddy plays.2 De’arron Fox. Fox is also a great player and needs his time with the ball

I AM a Kings fan... So I watch all of their games. Buddy has been pretty inconsistent but by no means do I feel like he's absolute garbage like this video makes him out to be. He still IS one of the best shooters in the league. I usually agree with you, Andy. But I feel like this was completely off basis and a lot of other players deserved this treatment before Buddy Hield.

Coaching and him putting extra muscle during the offseason. Gaining that extra muscle, really changes your shot mechanics.
Last night he didn’t look that bad 18 points 6-11 from 3 , only time will tell if buddy returns to what he once was.

You guys are overhyping buddy. Buddy is similar to Steve Novak/Kyle Korver but can occasionally dribble around the 3 point line. Buddy is a specialist. His skill set that makes him playable is his shooting. Sucks at defense. SUCKS AT DEFENSE. He's smaller than what's listed on his nba profile. Yes, buddy can go 7-15 at the 3 point line for 21 points BUT the player he's guarding is dropping 30 points on him. He can't dribble/no handles/no shot creation, meaning he can't consistently attack the basket to draw fouls for free throws. He averaged 1.3 free throw attempts FOR A STARTING SHOOTING GUARD. Then there are games for goes 3-13 at the three point line and he's just on the court running around playing 35 minutes contributing nothing essentially.
I should know. I'm a kings fan. Buddy is a bench player at best but plays starter minutes. He's a role player who thinks he's a starter. Buddy on a better team that just utilizes buddy for his one great skill (shooting) and limit all of his other flaws in limited minutes, he would be awesome.
And the while coach thing issue, the reason why Luke plays buddy 30+ minutes is by default. The kings bench sucks. The coaching staff see what I see with all of buddy's flaws.
And the most idiotic thing I heard from other weird kings fans was when they said buddy is BETTER THAN ALLEN IVERSON because buddy can shoot 3's. Kings fanbase are weird. Some use the EYE TEST. Some just make believe stuff to hold certain kings players on a higher pedestal.... like ridiculously saying buddy is better than Allen Iverson. Homagawd 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
AND I remembered watching a suns vs kings game. Buddy in the first half was scoring on Booker. Buddy had about 20 points. And in the 4th, buddy scored 3 points and Booker shut down buddy. Buddy ended the game with 28 points. Booker had 4 points in the first half and then scored 18 points in the 2nd half and played defense on buddy. THAT'S BUDDY. That's when I knew then, buddy is a bench player/role player, since then.
He’s forced to create his own shot now with Walton, however with Joeger he fit in well with the offense as he was more catch and shoot which is his style.
Great thing that you mentioned what the Kings did to Dave Joeger. They are winning that season but they fire him out of no where for an overrated luke walton

When he coached the Lakers, I've noticed he destroys players confidence and momentum trying to stick to rotations he set in place. He can barely write up plays to save his life and he chooses a supporting cast of coaches who will never help a young teams development

Prop to Buddy this year. He's put in a lot of work; better defense, better ball handling, more attacks at the rim. He might not be back to All-Star caliber shooting, but he's much more rounded as of late.

The shooting numbers are down but I love the hustle Buddy and the Kings are showing this year, diving for loose balls and making unselfish plays. They're not great, but I expected them to be much worse. Tyrese Haliburton has been an awesome addition.

Until a few days ago I was wanting the Pacers to ship Dipo to Sacramento for Heild. As your video states he's not happy in his current situation & has a coach & organization he feels doesn't believe in him. His fall in production can probably be attributes to that. I think in a new situation he would get back to all star level form. And the Pacers would have been a good fit for him. He wouldn't have the pressure of having to be the guy (not that he can't handle that) but on any given night that could happen cause that's the kind of of team Indy has. No superstars just 5 guys capable of having an all star season. Heild would have fit right in there just like LaVert will. Hopefully Buddy gets a chance somewhere else before his prime is over.
Walton happened. Hield being the focal point of the offense showed how gresthe could be, but change his role and of course he won't be the same.
