What is the difference between buying or placing a chip on one of the numbers in craps? I noticed there are two options when betting so does each does something different?
the buy option pays more for 2,3,4,5,9,10,11,12. It pays true odds minus 5% on your bet. So if I buy the 2 for $10 and it hits, thats 6x my bet ($60) minus the 5% commission on the $10 ($.50) for a total of $69.50 returned. If you had PLACED $10 on the 2, the payout is 13-2 including your bet. So on the $10 bet, only $65 would be returned. Definitely a very significant difference for those numbers, however, the 6/8 it truly doesn't matter whether you place or buy.

Placing 4/10 the odds will be paid 9 to 5 with an house edge of 6.67%. Same thing for 5/9. Place bets are paid 7 to 5, buy bets 3 to 2 minus the commission.

I believe it’s something along the lines of payout. The payout is more on the place bet for the 6 and 8 something like that
Place 6/8: it will pay 7 to 6. 1,52% house edge
Buy 6/8: it will pay 6 to 5, plus 5% commission. 4,76% house edge.
