Lots of great luck on that scoop, especially the dual fob action. They get a noisy bearing in the transmission. Lift it up, get a grip on both ends of cv axle going in to case, their should not be much play. If it feels like a teeter totter, might need a rebuild, but you will save mucho time if your axles still look happy, and at that milage, they are on their second set. About the best available for gas milage, power, no turbo, and a nice vvt boost over ~4,200 rpms. My wife bought a brand new Fiat 500X in 2016 it was loaded Italian leather seats power everything pull me over red. She paid 26500.00 ish and 5000 miles and 14 months later sold It to Carmax for 13 grand. Talk about loosing half it's value the moment you drove it off the lot. Fiat of roseville offered her 11500 for it. Didn't even want the car back. It was a blast to drive in sport mode but that was it.
Sounds like gear whine. Still, it's amazing that it runs that well. Must have had a lot of servicing. Here in New Zealand, you don't touch them unless you get a cast iron mechanical warranty. Parts are quite scarce and expensive. Fiat has a very poor reputation for quality here too
@@alfa7561 Yep. Abarth with 240,000 miles (miles, not KM) here.. Never needed any internal engine or gearbox work (just servicing & occasional normal consumable stuff like coil packs & sensors).
"Brake cleaner removes sticky residue", now this is why I watch AAR because every once in a while Randy lays a golden nugget, honestly, thank you Mr Shear.
I did drive Fiat 500 for 5 years and never had one problem with it . Still missing this car very much. Did also drive brand new Jaguar and Jeep never ever again, problems all the time.
That is gear whine in the transmission. When you clutch it the gears get unloaded and quiet down. Could be low on oil or a bad main shaft bearing causing the gears to misalign. Bad situation either way. Throw out bearing won’t make that noise while driving
It wouldn't be a problem pulling a replacement transmission from a junkyard if necessary. It's a C514 manual transmission used in all non-turbo models up to 2017.
With the car being 10 years old and with approx 140,000 miles on it, it’s time for a full timing belt service. The owners manual list the timing belt service at 10 years/100,000 miles. FIAT dealerships were doing the timing belt at 12 years/120,000 miles. The service includes changing the water pump, the tensioner and the pulley. Having the timing belt break would be very bad.
That sound Randy is probably not a throw out bearing. I’m pretty sure it’s the bearing on the input shaft in the gearbox. If the noise goes away when you depress the clutch pedal it’s probably because the pressure on the bearing goes away. But to “mechanical total” the car is crazy. Just find a gearbox in the junkyard and the car will be fine. It’s actually god cars and a very popular car over here in Europe😉

I have a 2013 abarth 500 and I love it, it’s so much fun to drive and get phenomenal gas mileage for commuting, and in the non turbo cars like yours the sport button just makes the throttle a little more sensitive and tighter steering, but in the abarths or turbocharged 500s it makes the throttle more sensitive, tightens up the steering and allows the car to build full boost, with the sport button off in my car it only builds like 12psi max vs around 20lbs with sport on
Randy, my comment about having cleaned the car only to send it back to a dusty lot was not a reflection of you, but of where they are auctioned. Too bad you did not have a cleaner venue available to you for selling the vehicles. The cars should be bringing in more money that what you have been getting for them. Happy New Year!
I have a 2013 fiat 500 Sport turbo, there are pros and cons about it. With street pro tires I was able to take corners going 90mph and held just fine, off-roading was like a 4/10, it’s a little zippy go cart beat a couple badly tuned Subarus kept up with some genesis’s. But a few cons are the windshield is super thin so a rock bounces off cracks immediately, suspension issues around 85,000 miles. But so far the funnest car I’ve driven.

From what I can find the Sport mode button is standard on all Fiat 500 models. "You’ll enjoy more precise steering as well as sharpened shift points that will make it possible for you to experience that fun, zippy driving you want sometimes, and the comfort and refinement of a more laid-back ride the rest of the time."
The Fiat sounds like either like a throwout bearing or wheel bearing going bad. Sport is supposed to change the shift points of the transmission. In a manual it changes the air-fuel ratio somewhat for a faster take-off and changes the steering ratio for 'better feel' of the car.
It seems like they put mechanical damage on just about everything before running it through Copart/IAAI out of an abundance of caution. I don’t think a single vehicle I have ever bought with “mechanical damage” listed actually had mechanical damage.
What is up UBER MAN! Happy New year I been wondering what happened to Uber Man . I really like your new channel I miss your uber man live streams. Stay safe and Uber on...👍
The noise is most probably from the transmission. As it is manual so there is a strong chance that the transmission flywheel is bad or it is simply low on transmission fluid. Another thing that works well is a razor blade in one of those little holders. For small writing like you had there, steel wool and for the big things like when they paint the price on the windshield in bigger neon colored numbers, use a razor blade for the bulk of it and then quick clean up with the steel wool.
Yeck I would definitely drive that car to get back and forth to work stay blessed Randy and happy new year to you and your family
Black stripes are worth 3 mph, the whining noise is loose rubber band
I love your videos Randy. I just understand why you send them back to the auctions than private selling them for major profits?
The dash lights ARE actually flickering. 🙂 It's just our eyes that are too slow to detect the flickering.
Happy New Year Randy!
Happy New Year to You Jessica and Nick. FYI. If you have furniture or anything else from the old house you want to get rid of fast and make some $. Post them on Facebook Marketplace. 😁
3000+ RPM at 60? Wow. Not something I'd take on a long drive.
I’ve taken mine from the Oregon coast to the middle of Idaho, it was bad at all. Little bouncy at times, but I averaged 41 MPG and had plenty of space for two people.
Most small cars like this rev that high on the highway to keep them in the power band
Damn that’s good price I got a 2012 lounge with a convertible and automatic and Sirius Radio and bows and leather seats I don’t know what it’s worth but it’s got about 150,000 on it
Happy New Year Randy From Canada
I do believe that the wine is indeed the throw out barren witch isn’t a big deal

Seems like you could find a better place to sell the good ones?
