THE MOST DANGEROUS DERBY YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF - Ujpest v Ferencvaros 🇭🇺

- In this travel vlog I am in Budapest; I go to what is the biggest rivalry in both the city and the country of Hungary. Despite being one of the baddest and most dangerous rivalries in European football, it's not very well known. There's a lot of history to this rivalry, so much that there's a wiki page dedicated to it: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferencv.... I recommend checking it out, it gives a bit of context to why this rivalry started and there's a lot of interesting history and geopolitics in there, no wonder the football rivalry is like this.

First Half 6:38
Second Half 10:01
Full Time 14:12
Final Thoughts 15:06
Do you guys at Ferencvaros make that poor old man run after that eagle every home game? Or is he saved for special occasions? 😅
It's part of the pre-match ceremony. Ferencváros's nickname is the Green Eagles (zöld sasok), and that eagle is sort of the mascot of the team. The old man is a professional falconer, meaning that he domesticates wild birds. Also, we just played a match recently in Újpest, where Fradi thrashed Újpest 5-0, which isn't a surprise really, since Fradi haven't lost to Újpest in the last 15 matches, and Újpest haven't beaten Fradi in the last 10 years.
Árok partján őzike, szopjon le a Győzike xD 7:14
Oh yeah! Can anyone translate this sign for me?!😂 Not sure the Google translate is getting it right.
@@Smuzzo Roe deer on the bank of a ditch, suck it Győzike ( Győzike = Hungarian Gipsy Trash celebrity ). It rhymes in Hungarian.
@@Smuzzo I think the translate is good its a rhyming sentence. Győzike is a famous hungarian gypsy and he started to support Ferencvaros for a lot of money and Ujpest didnt like it.
it means :
" Fawn on the bank of a ditch,
Győzike ( a gipsy celebrity ) can s#ck my d#ck " @@Smuzzo
it rhymes better in hungarian tho
@@Smuzzo thast mean: Roe deer on the bank of a ditch, suck my dick Győzike
I was there that game. Crossed off my bucket list to attend the Budapest derby. Had to fly home to Melbourne Australia the next day. I got friends in both ultras sectors, each trying to get me to stand in their sectors. I kept it neutral & observed.
Actually on the other side of the stadium is written that Újpest didn’t win a single championship for 25 years and the last time Újpest has beaten Fradi was in 2015. Újpest is mostly in the top 3, don’t get me wrong but hungarian football is really one-sided. Ferencváros gets loads of money and they have like three hungarian players, the others are african😂
fuck u mean 3rd they barely stay in the first league

I'm glad that you had a good time in my country, come back again for another game, I have enjoyed the video of you telling what experience you have had. All the best Smuzzo
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was a relatievly "quiet" match my man. Years ago the whole stadium looked like that little corner. It was absoluetly wild. And after the match..people were proud that theyve gotten into fights. Wild days. Im glad youve enjoyed it tho.
Welcome to the 80's bro, smoke, beer, flares, chants, flags. Football is where its at.
Honestly, Hungary seems to have hit a good mix of rowdiness and safety at this point. It's not so sanitized as some countries, but you can still take your wife and kid there without feeling like you're putting them in danger lol.
I loved it, made a good change from English football.
Well it really depends where you move lol. But in the last..10-15 years it became a LOT safer than what weve had before. @@saberswordsmen1
Well uhh this stuff is illegal for a reason in the UK. The safety got better comapred to decades ago, but still not the best.
I moved to Újpest, and as someone not interested in hungarian football, i have to give props to the Újpest fans. I live 15 mins away their stadium, and i can hear all their chanting and its even more impressive cuz Újpest is in a really hard spot competing against Ferencváros (so does every other club in Hungary)
Even the locals are very supportive btw, when you go to the local market you can clearly hear the elders talking like kids about their favorite football club. They stay joyful, hopeful, and proud to live in their district. Újpest is really more then a club. Its the districts life. Wish they'll get a national title soon!
That's awesome to hear.
Really enjoyed this video man, thanks. Was born in Budapest, living in Australia for last 40 years. Brought back memories of going to Fradi matches with my grand dad when I was a kid. Can't wait to go next time I'm there. Thanks again 👍
Awesome comment, made my day. Glad I could take you back!
Very good video my friend, great sound and camera quality, with an interesting theme! ;-)
Glad you enjoyed it!♥️
As a member of the Hungarian community I think that this video is fucking amazing and you need more fame.❤
You're a legend, thank you mate.
Its so funny as a hungarian watching this. He doesn't know what they are chanting (Very bad things) And he's sitting there smiling xD
I can imagine, also thought that about the signs lol.
Amazing video!
Very kind, thank you!
Good match, amazing actor/video!
Thank you very much!
Great video! The teams names are actually pronounced a bit different. Újpest is kinda like Uypesht, Ferencváros is bit tricky, its would be something like Ferentsvarosh (ts like in the word tsunami), but you can call simply Fradi
Thanks for explaining kindly, I did look up pronunciations before the video and asked a few people to help me but you know, typical English😅
Very nice video, came back to visit us in other matches as well. Hajrá Fradi!!!
Thanks dude, I defo will! I tell anyone I know to go when they're in Budapest.
Nice video 🙌🏻
Thank you dude, really appreciate that♥️
Ferencváros and Újpest ultras has a bad reputation for being violent, but the last major clash between them took place more than 10 years ago. Now they are only loud and singing slurs on public transport, but don't harm anybody. Hungarian football teams are sold to oligarchs and/or Fidesz party members. Gabor Kubatov not just the president of Ferencváros TC, but also an MP in the hungarian parliament. Try to imagine the situation when you are an MP and your ultras starts to beat up people or the police on the streets. It can't happen.
Érdekes, hogy Kubatov tag a MAGYAR parlamentben mikor UKRÁN származású

You actually can't smoke cigarettes in regular sectors, only in the VIP stands. The beer, that is served in Groupama Aréna doesn't have alcohol in it, and houliganism is punished.
I thought the beer tasted bad! 😂
@@Smuzzo yeah, the beer at these games is basically piss. Next time you visit Budapest, go for a craft pub. We have some AMAZING beer in Hungary. Wunder, Csakajósör, Beer Brothers, Kandalló, Hopaholic, First, Élesztő, Gravity, KEG are all awesome places to try, some of them with great food too!
Hatalmas shoutout a Fradinak az alkoholmentes sörért
Adult "men" getting angry over a sport and throwing things at one another and beating each other up is the strangest thing to me. I cannot imagine getting mad over someone liking a different team then me. Great video, captured the vibes perfectly :D
It's not about the sport sadly. It's like a clan war and the football match is just the setting.
And that's why you will never be happy when your favorite team decides your mental state for the week. Absolute banger of a feeling.
@@drabalisallat2188 cuz i dont wanna beat up the rival team? Lmao this is just dumb. You all act like a child
You don't know what passion is. That's fine, some people are like that. I think you wouldn't want to challenge any of those "men" to a manly competition like a fight.
@@bencze465 passion is loving the sport, not acting like children in the kindergarden:D You can love your team without disrespecting/hurting phisically the other. You guys arent fans of the sport, you are fans of violence.
this match was on my birthday, and i was with the ultras in B Közép (ferencváros)
its a good and also a horrible memory for me.
Hajrá Fradi ! 😜
Ah yes the infamus Győzike moment xD
God bless you british folks!
btw at 4:57 the sign says "In the past 25 years they where not champions. It's better for you to say it. Your voice is deeper!"
Hungarians like the old Bud Spencer and Terence Hill movies for a reason :D
Is there no drinking beer and smoking cigarette in British stadiums for real?
The one time you could probably see Ujpest and Ferencvaros fans joining hands would be if they tried to ban beer in the stadiums.
You can buy it in the stadium but you can't actually take it to your seat in England. Security will kick ask you to either chuck it or finish it before you go out to your seat.
The first time I went to and english game, I got myself 2 pints to take it to the stands, was told by security that it's not allowed, that was the shortest time I had to chuck down 2 pints. 😅
Hungarian football is the best when the ultras make the atmosphere. You should try a Debrecen Loki vs any Budapest team , and see how we always rival each other for the absolute dumbest reasons you can imagine.
Űzspeszt :D
Honestly, as a hungarian who was already on the Derbi before, being an FTC fan too (btw, my father was an Újpest fan in his 20's... 😅), also have to say the atmosphere was good indeed, I have to be honest: there are just even more crazier Derbies in Central- & Eastern EU, like: Zagreb-Split, Belgrad party with Partizan-Zvezda, Polish nighmares with Legia, Lech Poznan, Wisla Krakow and Widzew Lodz, Sofia derby between Levski & Dynamo, crazy romans, old bad bloods on the horizon: any better russian vs better ukrainian clubs... I can see MUCH MORE DANGEROUS ONES... 😇😇😇
I gotta get clicks somehow though broski😜

Yeah, but Ukrainian and Russian teams are not allowed to play each other by UEFA rules

I think it would be easier for you if you just simply say the nickname of the team: Fradi. Much more easier to pronounce :D
Great call, had a few rough comments about it but I did try googling pronunciation and I still got it wrong😂😂
Thanks for leaving a nice comment about it.
i dont know if you knew but there are 50 v 50 fights between the ujpest and the ferencváros ultras before the derby

hajra fradi 💚💚💚
i was there (ofc, i have a season ticket for 15 years). just for clarification: Ferencvaros is not a German team. its hungarian. Újpest is not Jew team! the enemi is based on the fact that Ú is backed by the police diring the communist regime.
but anyways im glad, you enjoyed the game. it was our 14th win in row. and it is counting ;)
Ofc it's a Hungarian team :P . I meant more the fanbases culturally and historically, I was intrigued to find out where the rivalry really sparked and through my research I found this when looking up why the rivalry started:
The rivalry off the pitch really began after the war where supporters of Ferencváros were Germans in Hungary and city-dwellers, while the supporters of Újpest were Hungarians, Germans, and Jews in Hungary.
Probably not so much the case nowadays but just thought it was interesting enough to quickly explain where it apparently all started.
Open to any comments saying if that's wrong or not because I'm interested. Sounds like a rivalry with deep roots and that's what really made me want to go. :)
@@Smuzzo Im not sure, of it, but i think was not like that... There was a Soviet occupation and most of the football teams are some kind a influence of a political party. Meanings if you was a good player most of the time ends up a team what the system supported. Ferencvaros other hand was a "poor", people team. The way you silently rebel the system kinda thing i guess. Nowdays the system useing the fact that Ferencvaros popular, and supporting meanwhile Újpest is one of the few who didnt enjoy the goverment support. Im not sure but i think MTK was the so called Jewish team not Újpest. Both MTK and Ferecvaros was kinda famous academy players, mostly hungarian decent players.
This rivalry kinda infamous because the supporter fight outside of the stadium but its noting like England. Hungarian supporter i think more like loud then violent.
I wish I had never heard of it…

The pronounciation is just funny to me as a Hungarian
Understandably🥲
I just found this video not long after their second derby this season, this time Ferencváros won 5-0
Damn, újpest needs to up their game
@@Smuzzo The state bought Újpest too recently so money will start to flow into them as well. Maybe they will invest it the right way and the derby is going to be more interesting. Currently Ferencváros makes up half the value of the hungarian first division
My son once wore an Újpest shirt and got beaten, spat on and almost killed. Now imagine what will happen once he will leave the house.
👍

Good atmosphere!!?? I am hungarian and matches that are half that important are more violent than the french frontier😅
it was ferencvaros / ujpest not the other way around haha
ferencs fars versus úvzspeszt
soccer never deserved this much popularity.
Just a tip for the future: contact someone who speaks the language and ask about the pronunciation :) Any content with Hungary in it will cause Hungarians to watch it and it's tough to understand what you are talking about if the pronunciation is off by this much. But that goes for any language, it's best if you are close to the actual pronunciation.

I don't support any of them, but honestly Ujpest is nothing, when compared to Ferencvaros when it comes to success.
in english I am a Ferencváros fan, but in history Újpest (Dózsa) had a many trophies too exactly not in Europe... tudom hogy tudsz magyarul is...de mivel majdnem ugyanott élsz ahol én akkor szlovákul folytatom és barátságosan..
A to opakujem, nefandim ani jednému z nich.
I hope you only supported Fradi because there was only room there. I Hope... CSAK AZ ÚJPEST
