I love that you are down to earth and haven’t lost touch with reality. One of my pet peeves is a room full of expired makeup in expensive organization systems. If you only apply makeup on yourself there is no need for a lot of products.
Don’t know if this is even possible but I absolutely love how realistic you are and practical. You’re right... watching tons of project pan videos really truly shows you how long it takes to go through products. I only keep one backup and I’m overwhelmed with that lol! Absolutely love you 😍 ❤️❤️

I agree she is the only one that seems to do a really good declutter. She has always inspire me to do it.I've kept my makeup down. This yr I am on a low buy. I don't buy everything new out. Last yr i can admit i went a little bit crazy .
Agreed. I watched another UA-camr with a giant collection. They get rid of a lot but still had too much make up left in my opinion. It's not what I am into anymore. Nobody needs this much makeup. It's insane.

Yes, a long intro, but a good one. 😉 Ugh I really dislike it when its obvious a brand has sent has just sent out a ton of pr and all of a sudden everyone is reviewing the same product at the same time. It's so eye-rollingly exasperating and boring imo.

Exactly! If everyone is reviewing the same products at the same time it gets stale, so when someone reviews unique or different products or brands it's more refreshing and relatable to me.

I feel like your consideration and awareness of the dynamics between beauty channels and beauty brands keeps your content from getting pulled into the toxicity and drama of companies+other YTchannels. Thank you for being so smart and aware of the current environment in the beauty community. I can't even imagine how easy it could be to accidentally get sucked into YT or brand BS. I also saw someone in IG (maybe rawbeautykristi?) post about just how the INSANE the packaging alone is becoming - I think it was NYX that included these stupid tiny plastic glitter stars in the PR box just because.
Thank You ! I stayed at a safe house last year after i left my abusive ex with nothing but what clothes i had on at the time. The YWCA helped me build my makeup collection with the basics and i can not express how much it helped me get through what i was going through. I helped me go back to my job without my co-workers whispering why i looked less put together. I may not of benefited from you giving makeup to my shelter but whoever gave to mine I thank you from the bottom of my heart because it made me feel so much better about my awful situation

Jessica, you’ve been such an inspiration to me this spring. Every time I want to buy something I’ve been waiting a week to see if I’m still thinking about it before buying it, which has worked. I’ve only bought one thing that wasn’t a replacement like my brow pencil or mascara

First, so impressed that you could even declutter anything on camera! I get so indecisive when I tackle decluttering of any kind, so your decisiveness is impressive. I appreciate the direction you are going with this. I really enjoy beauty products and watching videos about them, but have been torn lately because there is no doubt that watching feeds compulsion (to get, to buy, to have) rather than my contentment, which is better for my wallet, my family, and my soul. So my idea after watching your video is that instead of watching any more first impressions, hauls, etc, I am going to watch people's decluttering videos and see what they KEEP. That speaks so much more to what are truly good products, than 20 people who just got the product for free saying that it is a "must have"! Thank you for a refreshing change!

Love your change of thought! Most influencers only talk about declutter, but it's a cycle because soon after they get tons of products again. We need to think about the waste that the beauty industry produces and we, consumers, finance it.
I LOVE THIS. Unpopular opinion: I have honestly gotten so tired of declutter videos. I know others love it, but every time I watch one, all I think is “This was so wasteful.” I’m glad you’re going to be cutting down on your own personal waste by not accepting PR, and hopefully this might inspire other people to do the same in whatever way they can.

I’ve been watching you for years and I’ve always respected and enjoyed your declutter videos. When it seems that all other UA-camrs are collecting and storing insane amounts of makeup and making the general public feel they need to do the same, you come in with your logic and rationality and talk everyone down. It is refreshing and I love it.

Also, as a consumer, it makes me sick to realize how much product is shoved on us. You are one of the BEST influencers who consistently declutters. i think this community is at a pivotal moment. i’ve been following “beauty influencers” on youtube for almost a decade now and we’re ready and in need for a change in the dynamic. a lot of viewers are sick of consumerist driven channels and the drama. we want great products we can afford, will use, be glad we spent our money on, and want to be less wasteful. i’m glad you’re helping to be a part of a positive movement 🤗

I applaud you! And Sam! Recently, I watched a makeup organization video, not even declutter, that frankly, made me feel “icky”. It was just way too much! Even for a beauty blogger! I’ve decluttered my own now. I’m a makeup lover, VIB Rouge, but 5 foundations? Why? I must have 30 lipsticks! It’s too much. Blessed. But too much!

I always love your declutters! My favorite part is that you start with things you love and move on from there which isn’t what most people do but it definitely makes the most sense to me! I’ve started doing that when I’m decluttering things now too. I can hardly wait for your next declutter video!

I was so satisfied when you came back and got rid of more! I used to have a TON of make up (no where near whats in this video, but it was a lot), and I downsized by probably 95% the last two years. I have one of everything (eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow gel, eyeliner, concealer, blush, setting powder) and a few lip products (5 total). All the make up I have + any backups I keep, all fit in a 3-drawer desk-top acrylic holder (like the clear ones on Amazon). I have never been more satisfied with my collection. I only purchase to replace something I've used up. I didn't get rid of everything over night, it was a process that took several weeks. I'd see myself not reaching for a product and pull it out to get rid of it.
I think you did an AMAZING job here and I know you'll get rid of more over the next few months! You're also going to have so much space for other things now! I can't wait to see the rest of the declutter

I really love this direction you're taking for your channel & am excited to see how your content evolves as you're reviewing less new releases! As a full time UA-camr, it does make sense to have a bigger collection -- cosmetics are your "tools of the trade". But that amount is overwhelming, impractical, & definitely wasteful. You are not a better content creator based on the amount of products you have or how many companies are sending you PR. I'm proud of how much you were able to get rid of & I'm glad you're feeling peace of mind with having that physical/psychological burden off your back.

Thank you for discussing the PR thing in a video. I'm not on IG, but I went to yours to look for the video and couldn't find the post where you discussed getting removed from PR. Anyway. JESS!! I'm so proud of you for going back and getting rid of a few more foundations and primers. I was sitting there going, "Come on, Jess. I know you can be more cut-throat than that," and then you went back. I just did a declutter over the weekend myself! I'm glad you're getting your collection back to the things you really love again. I know that with as much PR as you get (and got) that trying to store the stuff you haven't tried, and keeping a special place for your beloved items in your actual collection had to be over-whelming. Like being too saturated in a thing that you love. I really look forward to this new direction. I feel like you'll get the chance to do way more follow-ups to your hauls and first impressions this way; I know you like to do those, and there just haven't been many of them, and I know that a lot of the reason has to do with just being sent too much to try. I like hauls and first impressions, but I feel like a person's most honest review comes from knowing they've tried the item several times, and especially when it's in an empties video. If it's in an empties video, you KNOW that person knows the product well!

I just decluttered my lip products and I hadn’t known I’d hoarded so much. I decided to give away a lot of the unopened products I had in the declutter because I won’t miss them (if any of y’all want some new products def enter because odds are good).

I'm new to your channel and am going back to watch your videos. Love the declutter ones. I totally appreciate and understand your view on your purge. I know it's beauty influencers job to test out new products but I always was confused how they could use them all before the expiration date. I mean, I'm sure every time you find a new love, the next month another takes its place. I am always awed, however, that people can find so many foundation/concealer shade matches that work for their skin! I am struggling to find even one! All the ones light enough break up on my skin, or look too oily, or break me out, or just hurt my face in general. I'm glad you're donating so many things to so many women in shelters who could use them! Good job!

Do you ever donate PR to teacher lounges in the community? I bet teachers would love those treats since they spend so much of their own salary on their students/classrooms etc. and can't really splurge on themselves. Love your videos!!!
Susie Leonard Or women’s shelters, people who’ve been wiped out in a tornado, church groups, goodwill, Salvation Army...anything! Instead of just turning it all down, I’d gratefully accept it and responsibly disperse what I don’t need/want/use to people in need. Then, recycle the packaging. There...done. One person (or even 10,000 people!) not getting PR isn’t going to make any change in the overall eco problems we have, but could make a huge change in some people’s lives to receive those products. I don’t get it.
@@tarantulady8565 I actually agree with what you have said. So many people are trying to get on PR lists. Meanwhile there are many places who will gladly accept makeup that is unused. I don't get PR as I am not a guru. But I do get subscription boxes of stuff I do not use. I am a HS teacher, so I make up a basket of unused stuff. When it is full I see if my colleagues want it. Then whatever is left over, I put in a basket for my students. I feel such satisfaction doing that. IDK, I guess I have an unpopular opinion.

And when I want to find a review, it just isn't there a lot of the time. I'm excited to be checking your channel going forward!
Re: primers. In my own expierences decluttering, if you regularly check in, you'll find that you can declutter more when there is less and you're wearing things more. True favorites will really shine and come to light. It's a process and I hope that you don't beat yourself up too badly over keeping a lot of primers. You'll get there.
Rebecca Williams I am a small channel, it is good to hear not everyone wants to watch the latest releases. As a small channel I cannot afford that but feel like I am behind sometimes because I don’t have all the new stuff.
People will have something to say about anything. I don’t know if it’s jealousy or confidence issues. But you do you. Great intro and great declutter.
This reminds me of what happened to makeup geek. I remember she made a video a while back about how her sales went down because she cant afford to send huge amount of pr or pay people to review her products. One suggestion you could ask the companies that you want to receive PR from to send you a sample size for you and maybe one to give away to a subscriber. Just a suggestion. Good for you!
Karen Carrington I think that is a great idea. I have made a promise to myself if my channel ever gets large enough to receive PR I will not open everything they send. Instead just the stuff I actually want to try and do giveaways for the rest. I resell for my full time job so shipping stuff out is not big deal to me.
I personally wouldn’t like that idea that much. If she receives “giveaway products” from almost all the companies, it creates problems as well: 1. She has to store the giveaway products as well for a time somewhere 2. sending out these packages in the world to the winner of a giveaway creates a big eco print as well (from the brand to Jessica - from Jessica to the subscriber). I think the idea is cool but these are just things that popped up when I read your suggestion :)

I love to see that your so authentic. With the PR thing, you did good Jess! It’s so nice to see a person being real in you. I would be overwhelmed with all that stuff. It’s hard to say goodbye to some...but I love that u pay it forward to others or dispose of properly. Good Job
