Which one is your favorite and why? Let me know! 😎
Super Crush because it sounds more modern and scooped with the tweaked settings.
But with the same settings I preferred the rockerverb.
Both...depends on what for...but considering 1500 price difference, I'd go for the transistor .
Supercrush ! I did a video for a bogren contest where you said the tone was killer and it was from that little shit !
I like the tube amp, but hard to tell unless heard in context to either a live band or a recording.
I liked Super Crush more :)
I own both amps and was so impressed on how close the super crush sounded like the rockerverb. Orange killed it.
How does the Super Crush handle a boost in front?
@@aynakotalaga really well, takes pedals like a champ
solid state amps forever. My favourite amp of all time is a Peavey Musician 400. I've played Oranges, Marshalls, Fenders, Mesas, Sovteks, 5150s etc.. and no amp and no person has ever given me a convincing argument that I need to play a tube amp. Solid state amps are reliable, cheap, unique and sound great and you can't change my mind
Team peavey musician forever \m/
Ho but you don't have the warmth of tube ...
Just kidding ;c)
I’m rocking a musician 400 right now and it’s so good dude 🤘🏻
Damn right. I've gotten tones out of a Marshall Lead Mosfet, VS8100, and Sunn Concert Lead that rivaled any tone I've gotten from any tube powered amplification I've ever owned.
I got a peavey 6505 plus on the second hand market and love it but I had to get the super crush after seeing several reviews. Find myself using the Orange more now.
Both sound amazing. I have the Rockerverb 100 mkiii and love it. It’s good to know that a super crush will work as a great and affordable backup. Also, as someone who has been playing for about 25 years I’ve got to stop and say that this is the best time to be a guitarist. Solid state, modeling, and pedal options are better than they have ever been.
I agree! So many great options these days. I’ll never run out of video content, haha! 🤪
I got the supercrush because I play crummy punk venues or cover gigs and don’t like taking out my vintage bassmans and with the gain channel I only need a boost pedal. It’s a great option.
Very impressive! The Super Crush was also my favourite right from the start. It just sounds more controlled and therefore tighter.
I'm impressed that they hold up for 7 string tunings. For the price point the super crush seems like a great option.
Agree! Especially since there is no boost.
They sound amazing for low tuned stuff! If you want clarity without losing the clean and big sound, use a Klon style overdrive (wampler, soul food) in front!
In my experience, solid state is better at lower frequencies than tube. My non-scientific guess is probably having to do with the fact that for most solid and tube amps of a similar perceived volume, the solid state has more RMS wattage. While the tube can be driven into pleasing distortion in the mid and high frequencies, that does mean that the solid state has more clean power, and for lower frequencies, they need that energy to move. Consider that most bass amps these days are class D solid state these days. You can't beat clean RMS wattage when it comes to low frequencies.
Super crush sounds good for the money. For me, tubes have a different feel to them in person but just regarding the sound, it’s pretty good. I’ll still never let go of my triple rec. it just pushes air unlike any solid state I’ve ever played and the feeling I get from that hasn’t been replaced with a solid state.
Awesome video. Your comparison is great. I think I like the Super Crush a bit more but they both sound fantastic!
Picking one of these up Tuesday and this has me even more hyped
Such a amazing video. I can’t believe how incredibly close you got the tones. It completely tricked me hahaha. SS sounded like it had more dynamics and quality. But when you raised the gain you heard that nice warm smoothness and low end in the tube. Excellent video
Damn, you did it! Thank you!
I love my Super Crush 100! The amp has made me a believer in transistor technology for amps.
They sound so similar to each other... Orange did really an amazing job (again). My personal favourite was tone 2, it just something more interesting to my ear.
great test, both are good to use!
Both sound great to my ear.
Just got the Super Crush and it’s a really great amp! Sounds great boosted. Best value out there when it comes to amps.
Love both amps.I use the super crush a lot more than my RV.! I just like the safety of firing it up live and nothing going wrong. The rocker verb is a beast as well though.
cheers!
It's tough because they're both great on their own way. As someone not overly into the big trend of too much "modern" stuff, I love the throaty bass sound of the rockerverb for the sludgier stuff, but the supercrush is superclose! haha. Def has some great things going for it for sure, and quite possibly end up the guts to my next rig. I would to see a more in depth comparison in a less "middle of the road" setting though, and also comparisons of their FX loop sections. That price point though... hard to knock back. Great video.
I've had the CR120 since 2014 and the Super Crush 100 since January this year. LOVE THEM! Perfect for my 7-string riffing!!
Are they similar and which one do you prefer?
Which amp do you prefer?
This was a great video. I have a Super Crush 100 and was looking at picking up a Rockerverb. I guess I will save my money and buy more speakers.
That will have a bigger effect for sure
@@KohleAudioKult looking at the warehouse guitar speakers version of the greenback and creamback.
@@guitarsgearandgoodvibeswit7306 checkout Mojotone speakers! They make some very accurate pre rola greenback clones and also a nice sounding V30 and H30 versions as well. Im rocking the scumback H55/J75 but the mojotones have peaked my curiosity in the M75 and how they might compare.
@@GabeHelma I am looking into the greenback flavor of the Warehouse Guitar Speakers but the Mojotone Watch Tower has peaked my interest
Good idea
I have owned an Orange Crush since 1982 !
Thank you REM !
I'd have the Orange solid state series over any tube amp now. Owned and gigged many different tube amps (vintage suitcase to large stacks) and they are superb, but the delicacy, tube changing and potential for failure isn't worth it. The Crush series are so good now, that it isn't worth the extra hassle.
Yeah. Orange did a great job with both amps. They both sound killer.
I gig with a crush 35rt, mainly as a pedal platform. Solid state can get the job done with some tweaking, and it's pretty consistent. Orange has done great with the crush series.
The Super Crush has the same circuit inside as the rockerverb but with Jfet instead of tubes hence very similar in sound. I love the super crush.
I'm convinced, I'm getting a Super Crush. I just recorded a band that had one and was really impressed. Worked with a Rockerverb 100 for years before. Thanks for confirming my impression =)
Likewise!
The Super Crush just sounds snarly and awesome. Would be curious what they sound like with a boost.
It sounds gnarly with a super fuzz…
I love a Rat in front of mine. In the loop my clean booster just made it louder, but if that's what you want it will do that.
I own a fulltone OCD copy I wish I had a orange super crush to see how a OCD would sound like with it
I love the tone of mastodon, specially the one in "curl of the burl"
I prefer the fatness and the warmth of the Rockerverb, but really the Supercrush is interesting and for the price it's damn interesting !
the orange amps are clearly made for singing single notes that doom, stoner, southern, and sludge heads crave for. But it's pretty cool to hear it can also do the tight metal stuff albeit you gotta need an overdrive for that hyper modern djenty djent stuff.
You are an impressive man , looks funny but with substances, good lucks guys😂😂
Great video comparison, and you were unbiased on your opinion in that you didnt just automatically favor the tube amp like alot of Pro's do, and us non proffesional, small time club giggers, appreciate that because most of us cant afford 2 thousand dollar amps, but then again, Orange,,in my opinion are Above the rest as far as solid State amps..you rock man..
Had bought the Super Crush due to that grind and cut through tone, stuck an Apex Preamp in front and OMG!!!!!
I preffered the solid state version aswell... damn now I need one...
I always say ... these 2 tones together in a mix would be the perfect tone lol
Mr. Kohle can get his signature tone from any gear hi pick👌
Both great
For those that like the sludgier sound, I would be curious to see how close you can get the super crush to the other by using an eq in the effects loop and boost the lows.
i use a maxon od808 and just a cheapo behringer 7band and youd never believe i use a solidstate cr120
I have one and I use it with two 4x12s and it sounds killer at low volumes, how ever the DI out is also REALLY good with the other "closed" back option button for DI out, it doesn't work for basic amplifier setups but I run my line 6 pod go into the back with my pre amp mode on my modeler into the return of FX loop and it just sounds and feels very tube like I'm happy with mine I'm gonna get another!
I love tube amps, but my favorite amp of all time is a SS amp. The Ampeg VH140C.
The solid state seems tighter and more gain-y, but with less "fatness" to the mids, which is what I expected. That's why so many chuggers like to stick overdrives in front of their tube amps, to basically sound more "solid state."
I liked tone 2.....picked it before you revealed. Just when you thought modeling and profiles were going to take over...BAMM...here come's solid state out of nowhere to blow everyone away.
Love solid state amps!
I could tell straight away that it was No. 2 by the compression characteristics as it reminded me of certain high gain guitar pedals. However using JFETs in the gain stage was a cool move, it definitely has the Rockerverb character though but yes it's slightly tighter.
I think what really makes the Super Crush great is how it feels to play. And you can't judge that from a UA-cam video. I've played the amp a bunch of times and it really has a great tube-like response that I really like.
@@mrcoatsworth429 agree with this from playing one too, but its still not nearly as "loud" as the tube variant
@@kenny6920 if you need something louder then that, honestly you need to go see the doctor.
@@redcomn hence why i had louder in quotes. Its percieved hertz, not actual decibels. So ease up there champ.
I remember when we recorded our first record at yours and we compared my cheap Randall Solidstate to your Triple rec, and they were so damn close...
Bought a new guitar a few weeks ago and played on a super crusher in the guitar store, I never played on an orange before but I really enjoyed playing on it. Was also very suprised by the 500 euro price tag
The Crush sounds great, but I would still go for the Rockerverb. That amp's low end is where it shines. The Rockerverb has never really been a super tight beast. It sits right at home in sludge if that makes sense. I think of bands like High on Fire when I hear a Rockerverb 100.
I agree that the low mids is where the Rockerverb shines. Ironically, Soldanos are used on High on Fire as opposed to Orange.
I Use the Guitar Vol-Tone knobs for Gain adjustment & "Edge of Breakup" tone on my Crush Pro without even touching the Amp ! ! Awesome !
Yeah. As soon as I find a used Super Crush near me I'm buying it.
Orange makes great SS amps using old school analog tech.
Very responsive to drive pedals as well.
Good bang for the buck.
Orange makes great products in every price range.
Lets appreciate that beautiful Coffee custom cab
I used to do a hybrid of a tube amp at home, and a ss for gigging until I sold the tube amp.
Not gonna lie, I sold the amp for financial reasons, but I love the SS (I use a quilter 100w head), it’s hard to beat as a pedal platform!
For most purposes in the 21st century, I think the crush is more than enough firepower.
It won’t have the squishy tube compression, but it’s nothing a bit of practice can’t fix.
For a home/studio rig I can see people getting something fancier, but that’s another story.
I do have the older crush 120 series, both head and combo version. Really good and flexible amps, takes pedals really well too.
Kirk from crowbar used them
My fave amps are the Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb and the a orange CR120H.
Well they both need a boost, an some more gain in my opinion.
But I was shocked to find that I preferred the solid state over the tube at first!
You’re not alone 🤪
damn, i actually prefered the super crush here to be honest.
but i boost the rockerverb most of the time, so there is that.
With current tube prices the super crush might be a great backup and/or live amp as well.
I really enjoyed this latest video on the Supercrush! Thanks a lot for that!
I recently bought the amp as a "combo" and I'm pretty excited about it. I'm even considering buying this amp as a "head"....
We don't do "metal" but we are at home in rock/hard rock. After several recordings in the rehearsal room, as a guitarist you have to frustratedly realise that your fellow musicians can't hear the difference between "Tube and Solid State". So why carry heavy loads and buy expensive tubes?
I got a super crush the other day. I love it
They both sound awesome. The Rockerverb sounds a little bit wider, and the Super Crush sounds a bit tighter. I like the Rockerverb better, but the price is so insane on the Super Crush I'm sure a pedal or two would get whatever sound you want.
I think if someone didn't tell me which was which and just said I can take home the one I think sounds best, I'd have picked Tone 2. They did a really good job on that amp.
Kristian, on the Super Crush crank the master volume and bring down the channel volume to taste. This adds resonance and openness to the transistor amp.
Really? You mean this will add highs and lows? I don’t understand why this should be the case though, but whatever 😊 I’ll try next time
@@KohleAudioKult It kinda emulates a cranked amp or "amp in sweet spot". In digital form Audio Assault did that on the RVXX plugin with the master knob. THR10 Yamaha, too.
Hi! Do you have that high pitched sqealing noise when cranking the dirty Channel Volume and gain ?
@@davidklaus194 if you’re using a boost it sounds like you have too much output and might need to lessen it and a noise gate will help too
@@MK-oz2lf I Just made some interesting Observations:
1.
No cable in the amp Input, dirty Volume and gain cranked: No Sound No Matter how high master
2.
Now Just the cable into the amp without cable plugged into guitar, dirty Volume and gain cranked: squealing Sound even with master very Low.
3.
Now Plug cable into guitar: same as 2.
4.
Now: again dirty Volume and gain cranked, master between 1 and 2
Amp
Guess I gotta save up for a Rockerverb then. It's got that punch and clarity. It sounds more open to me where the Super Crush feels a little more compressed. Both are cool though.
Check out the quilter overdrive. With a boost it's very metal
That's funny. When you started the first Tone, I was like: "that's a transistor". Then you played the second one and I was like: "They (almost) sound the same." Not a fan of the sound of this amp. But they nailed the transistor version to sound like the tube variant. Sticking to my Engl Savage 60 and Laney Ironheart though.
Got the older version cr120 and like it better than the new one. Nice comparison as usual,
I own both but I prefer the super crush because I like a brighter sounding amp. The Cr120 is warmer and darker sounding.
I own both and much prefer the rockerverb100mk3. The pummeling lowend and the depth to the distortion is much more pleasing to me. And Im a fan of both stoner music and extreme metal, so its really cool all i have to do is turn off my overdrive to change genres tonewise. the rockerverb is also noticeably louder
Awesome
That Ibanez could really do with some dampening on the Floyd springs!
Orange tube amps have never been my thing really, but the Crush actually sounds pretty great
Super annoying! It was impossible to mute it.
Honestly, the only place for tube amps is in a studio. But then again, engineers can just run a direct guitar track into an amp SIM with the speaker simulation off, and reamp it into a speaker cabinet and mic it up. However, tube amps can make good client bait.
The solidstate amp jumped out too me immediately. need one for chuggah chuggah
Very interesting, crazy how close they are. I was kinda waiting for Henning to barge in and offer some insight in some more or less comedic manner
Haha! I was happy I could escape him this time!
Great dude... I'd love to see a comparison of a cr 120 pro to a TH100. I own the Cr120 pro but I'm thinking about replace it with a Tube amp
I knew what the rockaverb was when you panned to it and I could see the gain at noon. It didn't have the reactivity I look for, which I only get with like 3clicks past noon
I'm definitely impressed with "today's" solid state tones; back in the 80's, I hated that nasty sizzle "saturation". It's still there, a little bit (I guessed tone 2 was the solid state), but it sure can be tamed nowadays.
The early version of ss amps where just using schematics of tube amps but replacing each triod with a bjt transistor (e.g. : fender ss 80's silverface). No surprise that sucks. But if a competent EE design a solid state amp from scratch no wonder he can totally achieve same tone as tube amps and in many way outperform it. Big company like fender and Marshall just did not bother to hire competent EE and/or leave them freedom to do the right thing. Add to that very often they where sold paired with shitty speakers and no wonder ss amps got bad rep.
I love my Rockerverb Mkiii, and I still prefer it, but they killed it with the Supercrush! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻it’s just a bit thin sounding compared to the Rockerverb.
Have you Tried the ksr ceres pre amp pedal? Curious how it would sound into a power station like you did with the revv g4
As an Rockerverb 100 Mk3 owner i must say the Rockerverb sounds better. 😂 with boost sounds killer 🔥
I really couldn't tell the difference, I'd like to see a comparison to the TH30, as I own that Orange lol.
Steve Albini uses a homemade amp head that combines a Fender Bassman with a Carver Solid-State Amplifier: both worlds
Any other Rockerverb 100 mkiii here? What are your favorite settings? (Gain and EQ) Do you boost highs or mids or leave it on 12 o'? Do you also use distortion/ pedals in the dirty or clean channel?
Did you ever get the chance to see how both the amps sound in stereo by any chance? I figured that you could get the clarity and high end from the super crush, and the low end from the Rockerverb so that you get the best of both amps.
I was recently looking into getting an orange amp for the purposes of hardcore/deathcore because I absolutely love the sounds they put out, but I couldn't for the life of me find an example that was in that realm, everything was doom metal or older classic metal/rock. Think i might finally ditch my Behringer gmx1200h for an orange.
Save all your money and buy a fractal FM3 is the best decision I made gear wise…I have more than 300 amps and hundreds of effects to choose from. I own a real 5150 and compared it with the fractal replica and it was the same sound I couldn’t tell the difference
Everyone should have an Orange in their arsenal, if you ask me 😜
@@giosundance5643 I'm on your side (QC), but some people just want an amp and that's also a cool thing. I have both.
The fender M80 from 1989 sounded great
I had one, they lacked power compared to the vtm/800
I've always been a fan of transistor amps, and the Crush absolutely kills it.
Question: How is volume? Does the tube amp hold its tone better the louder it goes? I have a tube and non tube bass amp, and the tube definitely sounds better at higher volumes. So I wonder how the crush does.
It gets “middy harsh” when it gets too loud.
For the bedroom player the SC100 is the way to go. You're not going to hear, or get, the benefits of the tubes until you get to neighbors-calling-the-cops volume levels. Orange has done an amazing job with their solid state amps. I tried out a friend's Crush 35 and was impressed. It's hard to find a better solid state amp at these price points Orange is selling them at.
Very comparable to a tube amp...lower cost...not having to deal with tube amp problems...I'm sold.
I was convinced it was the other way around. 😄
Can you bypass the amp sim? Or would you say it's safe to send the speaker output to a DAW?
Went the super crush route and ended up getting rid of my 2 tube amps and attenuator. My old rig was overkill to play at home volume only, since I do not gig or record.
I preferred the Super Crush too. I like the Orange sound, I just feel like the Rockerverb is too flubby
That changes once you add a boost. but yeah, I agree!
I've been wanting to add a super crush to my amp collection. I think a solid state amp is a good idea to own as well. all I have are tube amps. what if shit hits the fan and tubes become actually difficult or impossible to get?! id like to know i have a shit hit the fan backup amp and right now I do not. I have a hybrid amp (one of those tiny joyo zombies) but its not enough to handle what I need by a long shot. it sounds pretty okay for recording tho.
Up the solid states!!!! You should do a comparison between an old Randall solid state, and say, a 5150 or Triple Rectifier or even combine em to get some God-like toan??
I always help love the Rabdall stuff was a bit two dimensional, but maybe it’s worth another try
Fair point, you could get an array of top/legendary solid states THEN do some combos??
Supercrush clean channel is brilliant, throw an eq pedal in fx loop and a dirt pedal into clean chaand your in punk heaven
I liked the super crush better. The transient was a bit punchier on the chugs. Both were nice and chewy in the mids.
there is a 10 percent transient clarity or punch with the tube a bit more fur or veil with the tranny, good sound still more glued, in a mix i would choose tube
Man for $500, that's an amazing value!!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
@Kholekeller Studio bro!! That 7 string Ibanez was made for you! Hope you do more demos with 7 strings! More tonal options for hell, chugga chugga, and dissonant atmosphere!
Or sounded great! I’m just too stupid for 7 strings 😂
Have to say, I love both, but it was pretty easy to tell which was tube and which was solid state.
The tubes cut through a lot better. Would be easier to drop right into a mix.
@@KeenanCrow no your sound guy will cut everything under 80-90k. the Super is mix ready
The solid state had a frequency that makes it sound lower quality for some reason. Maybe around 500hz? Also I'm hearing more dynamics with the tube version.
But I agree for metal on a budget, and not too heavy, no tubes to replace, and maybe less worrysome to gig with, maybe tube amps in the studio, solid state on the road or the budget minded. 🤔
then all you need is an eq in the fx return. Fixed
@@MK-oz2lf maybe, I'd like to heat it first. But again, due to cost, might be worth it to gig with so yiu don't risk any damage or theft to the expensive tube head.
