What a great nostalgic tune that never losses its appeal ! This kind of musical artistry is elite indeed ! That intro by Harry is superb.I will be 76 and played trumpet, coronet and baritone since age 9 and can appreciate the long hours of practice necessary to master the trumpet with the proper tone inflections as did Harry James. His playing is music to anyones ears....Cheerss ! db
This is a classic rendition of this song from 1945. Notice how the singer has an excellent balance of emotion (not too much or too little) and what so distinguishes her vocals from those doing this in recent years is her slower-paced delivery of the lyrics. You can really feel her and believe that she has gone through this personally. Not so much by the singers in more recent years though, which is kinds sad.
Not only renowned for his exemplary playing and band leading , Harry James was responsible for introducing a little known vocalist Frank Sinatra to the world and jump starting a legendary career . Hard to select a favorite from the Dorsey's , Glenn Miller and Harry James .
@@peteklinger6150 I was about 12 years old when my parents took me to see him in South FL. My parents had seen Frances perform Live before in N.Y.C. & were both huge fans. I grew up listening to Mom & Dad playing Sinatra albums and many other greats (Probably why I enjoy the old stuff so much). My music experience that night was made even more amazing by the fact that after he performed the last song of the evening... I ran down to the stage and reached up to him with my hand and Mr. Sinatra reached down to me (looked me in the eyes) and shook my hand. I cherish that moment even more now that both my parents are no longer here with us. Thank you Pete for responding to my little video. I makes me happy and smile that others still enjoy real talent and not what (in too many cases) passes off for it now. Blessings to you and yours.
@@denethgilne8242 .... Thanks for sharing that impactful moment , highlighted by meeting one of the true icons from a bygone era in the entertainment industry when artists were required to be multi-talented . My parents were also a big influence in the fondness for certain genres of music I enjoy and I'm very grateful to them for introducing me to the music they grew up with , that has enhanced my appreciation for the Golden Age . Blessings to you and yours as well !!!
Can you imagine how this song resonated to returning GIs and their waiting sweethearts? Very moving! No wonder it was a hit
The lyrics are a real Poem..... And the Harrys music so wonderful... I grew up with this music... It was the favorite music of my parents
Gone 36 years ago today Mr. James! Always remembered! Never forgotten! Thank you for all the music you left behind. It never goes out of style.
So True... It is indeed Timeless.
