Bolo really seems to admire Shantae not only as a friend, but someone to look up to and be inspired by. Too bad he's a bit of a klutz when he joins her on her adventures. Also, this song is a banger.
This may be my favorite track in the entire game, at the very least when coupled with its setting. It matches the game's overall spunky-ness beat for beat, but with a flavor of Funk that's tidy and neat. It foregoes the usual Arabian themes that I love so much for an equally good mechanical vibe, setting it apart from most other albums. It's rockin, it's hoppin, it's mermaid-show-stoppin goodness.
I feel like this song and "Whoa I'm in space Cuba" really nails that "Wayforward" style of music, those songs are immediately what I think of when I think "Wayforward soundtrack" love it.
I was sure Doom would have the best OST of the year, but then this game dropped. I come to Shantae for the tight action-platforming and playful tone, so the quality of the soundtrack completely caught me off guard.
It's because virt used FM synthesis to create these compositions, similarly to the Genesis/Mega Drive's YM2612. What you're hearing in particular here is the incredibly distinctive bass and drums of a Yamaha synth.
A lot of people won’t notice but this song is a piece of art related to its level, It’s pointed out that it’s about them selling mermaids as food then kidnapping girls and selling them as food and it’s translated into this music. There’s the bosses business happy melody in the beginning Chorus, the thought process during the first verse after, then the 2nd chorus comes in almost as happily as the first. The giveaway being the second verse after where it’s slightly more chaotic then the first verse signifying a slight change in what’s happening but is happening nevertheless. It’s a great piece of music that stands above the rest.
Was passively playing this game on my vita while watching something else. I faintly hear this song playing. I stop everything else I am watching/doing and put my headphones in for this awesome track!!!
The songs melody and Rhythm sort of explain it from the bosses mind view. The happy melody at the start, the thought process in the middle then the return after the thought process followed up in the 2nd repeat in the the chorus. After the second chorus, it’s a slight touch more chaotic in theme aswell ;) . It’s a great piece of music that tells a tail. One of my favourites.
plus its also far easier to either use super pike ball in burning street at the restaurant for afk farming or use a gemjar dance and go to the bathhouse and in 15 min you can have every upgrade from the item shop farm a bit more and you will have everything from the naga merchant

After the mermaids were freed, the factory was abandoned, sunk, and centuries later became the ruins of Hydrocity Zone. Hence the music :)

Every time I replayed this level for the secrets and collectibles, I missed the pretty ladies hanging on the rails.
How about that point a bit into the level when fish jump up from the water and attach to the ladies, turning them into "mermaids".

I actually like how levels change when you go through them a second time, but i wish there was one way to replay bosses.
