Of course it is a provocation! However, it is perfectly legal to provoke others under freedom of speech. It is allowed to be stupid and wrong too. Islam is not only a religion, it is also a set of rules for how to live your life and as such it is also an ideology, and those we must be able to both critisize and mock - in a free country.

Hundreds of Christians in the Indian state of Orissa have been forced to renounce their religion and become Hindus after lynch mobs issued them with a stark ultimatum: convert or die.
The wave of forced conversions marks a dramatic escalation in a two-month orgy of sectarian violence which has left at least 59 people dead, 50,000 homeless and thousands of houses and churches burnt to the ground. As neighbour has turned on neighbour, thousands more Christians have sought sanctuary in refugee camps, unable to return to the wreckage of their homes unless they, too, agree to abandon their faith.

R8p333 crisis, misogyny, honour kills, Hindu number 1

If she is not willing, he should buy her over; and if she is still unyielding, he should strike her with a stick or with the hand and proceed, uttering the following Mantra, ‘I take away your reputation,’ etc. She is then actually discredited.
      Garuda Purana 1.109.31:
Rogues, artisans, servants, badmen, drums, and women, are softened and set right by beating.
search on bbc news for this survey But what sets it apart here is the silence that surrounds to, even approval for violence at home. More than 40% women and 38% men told a recent government survey that it was okay for a man to beat his wife if she disrespected her in-laws, neglected her home or children, went out without telling him, refused sex or didn't cook properly.
      The rape capital
      India rapes
Last year, police recorded 31,878 rapes - the numbers show a steep rise from the previous year (28,153), but compared to the 39,068 women who were raped in 2016, they show a decline of 18%.
With tens of thousands of rape cases reported annually, India has earned the moniker "the rape capital of the world".
It's not because India is an exception - many countries report equal or higher numbers of rapes.
But critics say the world's largest democracy gets a bad name because of the way the victims and survivors are treated - they are stigmatised by the society, and often shamed by the police and judiciary too.
Most recently, a Muslim woman who was gang-raped and saw 14 members of her family killed by Hindu neighbours during the 2002 Gujarat riots spoke of her "searing pain" after her rapists were freed from jail.
The story of the unfair treatment Bilkis Bano received made global headlines, reinforcing the view that India is often unkind to its women.
      Taken away
The latest data records 76,263 kidnappings and abductions of women - up 14% from 66,544 in 2016.
Some of the crime was linked to murder, ransom and many were trafficked for prostitution and domestic work.
But only 1 in 10 of these women formally reports the offence One in three women in India is likely to have been subjected to intimate partner violence of a physical, emotional, or sexual nature, reveals research published online in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health. Yet only one in 10 of these women formally reports the offence to the police or healthcare professionals, the findings show. Despite some improvement, these figures suggest that India is unlikely to meet Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-5) 5, which focuses on gender equality and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030, say the researchers. In a bid to gauge what progress has been made in reducing violence against women, and the effectiveness of domestic violence legislation in India, the researchers drew on information gathered for the most recent National Family Health Survey (NFHS), wave 4, carried out in 2015-16. The NFHS has included a module on domestic violence since wave 3 (2005-6), and the researchers included only (ever) married women of reproductive age (15 to 49 year olds), who had answered all the questions in this module, giving a total of 66, 013 respondents. The women were asked if their husbands had ever subjected them to physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, and to whom they reported it, with a view to getting help. Background information on a range of potentially influential factors, including educational attainment, employment, household income, and alcohol use, was also obtained. Most of the respondents (19.5%) were aged between 25 and 29; most (94.5%) were married; and three out of four were Hindus. One in four (25%) was in work and around one in seven (just over 13%) regularly drank alcohol, while nearly a third (just over 30%) said their husbands/partners drank. The responses show that nearly one in three women in India is likely to have been subjected to physical, emotional, or sexual abuse at the hands of their husbands. Physical violence was the most common form of abuse, with nearly 27.5% of women reporting this. Sexual abuse and emotional abuse were reported by nearly 13% and nearly 7%, respectively. Around 3.5% of respondents said they had been subjected to all three types of abuse, and nearly 7% had been injured as a result of their spouse’s abusive behaviour. The types of spousal violence varied by region of the country. But older women; those who were widowed, separated, or divorced; those with little education; and poor women were all more likely to have been subjected to some or all forms of intimate partner violence. But so too were women who had a job, possibly reflecting a backlash against women’s changing societal roles, suggest the researchers. Women whose partners were unemployed, or poorly educated, or who drank were also more likely to have been subjected to intimate partner violence. And those who grew up in a household where they had witnessed their father hitting their mother were twice as likely to be victims of spousal violence as those who hadn’t. Only around one five (22.4%) had told someone about the abuse, but only 13.5% had sought help, with women who had endured sexual violence the most likely to do so (23%). But less than 1% reported the offence to the police (0.5%) or asked a health professional for help (0.1%). Women living on their own; those who were well educated; those in work; those living in the North of the country; and those who had witnessed their father acting violently towards their mother as a child were all more likely to seek help. This is an observational study, and as such, can’t infer a causal effect from the findings, but it is the largest and most recent study to report on all three types of spousal violence, say the researchers. The previous NFHS in 2005-6 indicated a lifetime prevalence of spousal violence among women in India of 37%, they note

So did Jesus' earliest followers consider him to be God?
EHRMAN: Well, what I argue in the book is that during his lifetime, Jesus himself didn't call himself God and didn't consider himself God and that none of his disciples had any inkling at all that he was God. The way it works is that you do find Jesus calling himself God in the Gospel of John, our last Gospel. Jesus says things like: Before Abraham was, I am, and I and the father are one, and if you've seen me, you've see the father.
These are all statements that you find only in the Gospel of John, and that's striking because we have earlier Gospels, and we have the writings of Paul, and in none of them is there any indication that Jesus said such things about him. I think it's completely implausible that Matthew, Mark and Luke would not mention that Jesus called himself God if that's what he was declaring about himself. That would be a rather important point to make.
So this is not an unusual view among scholars. It's simply the view that the Gospel of John is providing a theological understand of Jesus that is not what was historically accurate.
GROSS: Jesus was referred to as the king of the Jews. Did he call himself that, and what did that mean it is time? Do we know? Can we have any idea what that meant in its time?
EHRMAN: Yeah, we do know, and actually to be a king of the Jews simply meant literally, being the king over Israel. It is a very difficult question to get to, what Jesus taught about himself because of the nature of our gospels, but one thing is relatively certain, that that the reason the Romans crucified Jesus was precisely because he was calling himself the king of Israel.
Now, Jesus obviously was not the king. So what might he have meant by it? Well, what scholars have long thought is that Jesus was talking about not being put on the throne by means of some kind of political show of power, but that Jesus thought the world as he knew it was coming to an end and God was going to bring in a kingdom, a new kingdom in which there would be no more injustice or oppression or poverty or suffering of any kind.
And in this kingdom, Jesus appears to have thought that he himself would be the future king. And so Jesus meant this not in the regular political sense but in a kind of apocalyptic sense, that at the end of the age, this is what was going to happen: he was going to be installed as king.
GROSS: So Jesus saw himself as the messiah. What else did that mean in its time?
EHRMAN: Well, a lot of Christians today have a wrong idea about what the messiah was supposed to be. The word messiah is a Hebrew word that literally means the anointed one. This was used in reference to the kings of Israel. The ancient kings of Israel, when they became king during the coronation ceremony, would have oil poured on their head as a sign of divine favor.
And so the king of Israel was called God's anointed one, the messiah. There came a point at which there was no longer a king ruling Israel, and some Jewish thinkers began to maintain that there would be a future king of Israel, a future anointed one, and they called that one the messiah. And so the messiah for most Jews simply referred to the future king of Israel.
And so when Jesus told his disciples that he himself was the messiah, he was saying that in the future, when God establishes the kingdom once more, I myself will be the king of that kingdom. And so it's not that the messiah was supposed to be God. The messiah was not supposed to be God. The messiah was a human being who would be the future king, and that's probably what Jesus taught his disciples that he was...

Very interesting the Swedish point of view. I am no muslim, but I imagine how I would feel if I see that a politician who founded a Far-right political party goes publicly to burn the Quran and citizens of the country consider this as freedom of speech instead of hate speech. For me, it is clearly not a critique of the book, but rather a threat to the muslim population as he was to say "The next will be you".
I have the impression that, in general, the Far-right in Europe plays a lot with the concept of "Freedom of speech" to spread this feeling of animosity against anyone/any idea that would be considered "non-European" until they get enough supporters to actually reach the legislative and executive power and legislate their ideas.
    Anyway, just an opinion.

@@harryainsworth6923 Hello Harry, thank you for your input on this matter. I understand better your point of view which I think reflects the way of thinking of several other European citizens. I wonder a few things though, because I only know the French reality:
      1) I understand this idea of forcing values on other people. However, I have a hard time understanding how this works in practice with the muslim population coming into Europe. Since they clearly have near to no presence in the national or European parlaments nor they have any financial influence since most of them are poor, I genuinely don't see through which means they are forcing their values on people.
      2) Also, a more fundamental question in matter is the values you mentioned. I don't know what values we are talking about and how they differ from our European values. Especially when there is no homogenous acceptance of European values even within the union. In France, for example, I see how gender equality is still a major issue. So it is a bit difficult for me to conceive that the majority of the muslims immigrants coming from different cultures and countries have achieved a consensus on what their values are and these well-established values oppose ours.
      3) I also question myself: What about people born and raised in Sweden or any other European country that decide to believe in Islam? Do they switch their values automatically or can Islam actually fully exist as religion without challenging any European value?
I am not provoking or anything, those are sincere reflexions I have for this "hot topic" and I believe the more we reflect about it, the easier it will be to reach the root of the problem and then come up with feasible solutions as a society.

@@daaba6784 2), basically, western society, though it is different among the french, english, spanish, germans etc, shares a number of historical/philosophical and geopolitical similarities. 'western' societies have a system of liberalism, which exists on the basis of developments in christianity, secularism, materialism/idealism, which colour our views on all aspects of society. Muslim immigrants, say from syria, come from a culture which has undergone a very different set of historical developments, they dont necessarily share a belief in secularism for example, im generalising ofc, but largely, they hold their religion as superior and the source of moral law, to varying degrees. A person coming from a sharia country for example, will have a fundementally different view of democracy. We westerners like to view our philosophies as all encompassing, eg "human rights", "historical materialism", when in reality we a just one of many civilisations with its own moral/cultural axis. Anyone can tell you how disasterious it was to force french law onto Algeria, the mess it caused, one merely needs to imagine a reverse to see what i mean.
      3) this does happen, i think if one accepts islam, the morals of it must be accepted as well. Im no islamic scholar, but this may clash with westernized values, like secularism or liberal constitutionalism,. however, many islamic republics exist with many different approaches to this question. The problem emerges when one tries to institute religious protections for one group. It promotes the worst kind of favouritism, and suddenly other groups, say catholics, are demanding protections on their works, infringing on the rights of individuals to exercise their own moral will. Better to completely separate religion from legal protections (within reason ofc).

What are these comment? "it's about tolerance and respect", you can only get so tolerant until it becomes weakness. The burning of it was an act of defiance that stood against oppressive backwards values and beliefs that are still going strongly today in the Muslim world. Most Muslims wanted that man's head on a stick for simply leaving Islam and he said "suck it I'm not bowing down to you, who has oppressed me and many others". If you don't support this you're either a dogmatic Muslim who cant think for themselves or another increasing weak European who doesn't do anything to uphold modern values (like treating women as equals and allowing gay people to literally just live their lives).

Isn't it interessting that the most feminist type of people are the most defensive of an ideology which is deeply anti-feminist? I also wonder if they would oppose bible burning too. Another thing is that those types never answered the question. The question wasnt if you like it but if it should be illegal. (btw. with this i dont mean e.g. 5:05 or 5:58 which are conservative view points i oppose as well but are distinct from the others)
If you go violent because of blasphemy you have no place in secular liberal democracy. Its as simple as that. We have losened the grip of the church. We dont need to regress. Thanks.

Sweden has prohibited the burning of Torah. So its obvious their free speech is selective & thats the problem. Either make burning book legal or illegal for all.
Islam actually gives more rights to women than most if not all major religions. Here I will focus only the 3 Abrahamic religions. Islam is the first & only religion that assures women have the same right with men to enter paradise. As contrast in Christianity women aren't worthy of Kingdom of Heaven, pious law abiding women - even Mary mother of Jesus herself - should be first transformed into men, clones of Jesus to be exact, in order to enter as stated in Gospel of Thomas 114 & Philippians 3:20-21- this means there will be 0 female in christian heaven. Islam is the first & only one that give women rights to inheritance, property etc. Judaism & Christianity don't. Islam dont have barbaric laws such as Deut.22:13-18, Deut 25 11-12, 22:28-29 Revelation 2: 22-23 etc. Islam elevates women.
Islam never promotes violence. Here is the guide on how Muslims react to blasphemy:
      Qur'an 4: 140
_"And it has already been revealed to you in Qur'an that when you hear the verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell”_
      Quran 16:125
_"Invite to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and fairness, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided."_

The previous NFHS in 2005-6 indicated a lifetime prevalence of spousal violence among women in India of 37%, they not

In NE of India it's pure Tribal crap and has got nothing to do with religion.

Aside from that, I believe you should be allowed to burn any book you wish, and on the opposite side you’re also allowed to be angry at the person that does it. Any holy book or political symbol can be burnt to express criticism because it doesn’t actually hurt anyone, just incites anger. The line is drawn at physical violence or threats of doing so.

Muslims say Jesus is a prophet and messiah. What does Jesus and those close to Jesus say?
If this man was GOD, he would never have been called a prophet.
      Matthew 21:11
And the crowds were saying, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

      Luke 7:16
Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”
      John 4:19
The woman *said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.
      Matthew 21:46
When they sought to seize Him, they feared the people, because they considered Him to be a prophet.
      John 6:14
Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”
      John 7:40
Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were saying, “This certainly is the Prophet.”
      John 9:17
So they *said to the blind man again, “What do you say about Him, since He opened your eyes?” And he said, “He is a prophet.”
      Luke 24:19
And He said to them, “What things?” And they said to Him, “The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people,
      Mark 6:15
But others were saying, “He is Elijah.” And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”
      Mark 8:28
They told Him, saying, “John the Baptist; and others say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets.”
      Luke 9:8
and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the prophets of old had risen again.
OK, so Jesus doesnt refute anybody calling him a Prophet, he reaffirms it😇
Luke 13:33 . . . . I must proceed on my way. For it wouldn’t do for a prophet of God to be killed except in Jerusalem.
Mark 6:3-4 Then they scoffed . . . . They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him. Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own hometown and among his relatives and his own family”.
In the above two verses, Jesus called himself a prophet. There are also many verses indicating that during his lifetime on earth the people in Judea and Galilee regarded him as a prophet.
Regarding the verses in which Jesus says that he is equal to God (mainly in the Gospel of John) most scholars believe that Jesus never said that. It was what people started saying about him after his death and put on his lips in the Gospels written at least 4 decades later.,

So HE took a DAGGER, placed it ON HER BELLY, pressed it, AND KILLED HER. A CHILD WHO CAME BETWEEN HER LEGS WAS SMEARED WITH THE BLOOD THAT WAS THERE. If there's no harm then why do you get offended by it? You say people who try refuting it get converted. Let's you give it a try debunking the mistakes made by Allah himself in his word the kuran.
Here are some on just one topic:
      Sperm is the sole origin of a human’s birth/being [Q. Surah:23 Ayah:13 | Q. Surah:75 Ayah:37 | Q. Surah:76 Ayah:2 | Q. Surah:77 Ayah:20 | Q. Surah:80 Ayah:19 | Q. Surah:86 Ayah:6]
Semen comes from between backbone and ribs [Q. Surah:86 Ayahs:5-7]
      Sperm is made into a clinging clot of thick blood [Q. Surah:23 Ayahs:14 | Q. Surah:96 Ayahs:2]
      Man is created from clotted blood [Q. Surah:23 Ayah:14 | Surah:96 Ayah:2]
Islam’s embryology - first sperm > then blood clot > then lump > then bones > then bones are covered with flesh [Q. Surah:23 Ayah:14]
Since you muslims believe that the quran is the direct word of Allah then this proves that he is a false god since there are many mistakes in his own words. A perfect god cannot make a single mistake.
1400 years later and your false god is still a false god.

I DO NOT support disrespecting eachother, and though I disapprove in general, of burning someones holy text, this is THE EXTREMEST freedom of expression. We have fought MANY wars over freedom of speach and freedom of expression. THIS PARTICULAR PERSON THOUGH, I AM NOT AT ALL SURE DID IT FOR THE REASON OF "ALL IS EQUAL IN RIGHTS AND LAW, AND NO ONE IS THE EXCEPTION, AND NO OTHER LAWS WILL RULE THE COUNTRY BUT THE OFFICIAL ONE" (That is to say NO RELIGIOUS LAWS is to be implemented in Sweden, that will be above SWEDENS OFFICIAL RULE OF LAW). IT SEEMS LIKE RACISM AND ANTISEMITISM TO ME. You know how I know that ? Because if it WASNT, they would have burned not only the quran, but also: the bible, the torah, the kabbala the bhagavad gita, the edda and havamal and so on....NOT just that. And I at least, would NOT be angry, because thats THEIR OWN BAD KARMA. I f they were worried about extreme muslim leaders trying to subterfuege and undermine swedish law, and trying to be "the exceptions to every rule that offends them/ get special treatment that noone else gets, and crybully everyone into submission" they should have DISCUSSED IT OPENLY, AND INVITED SOMEONE WITH AN OPPOSITE VIEW TO TALK/ HAVE A SITDOWN. And even if they were still going to do it, should have made clear their intention and treated all religious texts equally, if they are in fact, atheists/entirely unreligious and unreligiously affiliated. Im a christian, and before any of you fellow christians start whining about me being ok with "burning the bible". Do you REALLY think Gods power is diminished, by the burning of ONE of his books, by a nefarious person? Do you think hes that weak ?If the people that do that, wants that bad karma attatched to themselves, then LET THEM. It will come back to them, later. They cannot diminish you. They hold NO POWER over that part of you. If you REACT in a violent way though ? THEY WILL USE THAT AGAINST YOU, BECAUSE THATS WHAT THEY WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE. TO CONTROL YOUR ACTIONS, AND SHOW THE FOLLOWING "LOOK AT THIS VIOLENT PERSON; THREATENS TO K-WORD OR MAIM, WE CANT HAVE THAT "HERE". They WANT something bad to happen, for YOU to hurt someone, because then they can use it as evidence that youre not capable of self control or whatever else bad stuff they want to pin on you. I dont know, the particular backstory, of this person who burned the book, but he seems very VERY suspicious in origin story. I dunno, I think theres some multilayered political mindgame-play going on as well. And if thats the case, well....religious or not, the government HAS VERY LITTLE OF ANY!! MORAL VALUES. tHEYLL "TURN COAT" to whatever religion or whatever moral political "trendy thing" going on, "putting on a full show". Theyre hearts and minds, TOTALLY DEVOID of ANY of it. Also, I am not angry if you burn the bible, not because "I allow mockery of the word of God" or "because I dont care", but because I believe in freedom of speech AS WELL. Im not angry at any muslim for burning it, the bible, btw, its YOUR RIGHT, here in the west. I dont particularly LIKE IT. But it HAS NO POWER OVER ME. And neither does it, OVER YOU. Do you understand ? They bought the book, they burned the bible, THAT particular bible was their payed for- property. And as much as I dislike it, here in Europe, we have a history, of religious and political abuse of the common man, and the only choice under those kinds of power, was, obey or.....!dire conequences, even the end of that persons life. Had we not, through generations FOUGHT for the right to say, WHAT WE WANT, TOWARDS WHOEVER WE WANT, (unless its d-threats and the like) then whoever we oppose, will dictate us and our actions, even if we believe THOSE ACTIONS ARE WRONG. And then, bad people, acn order EVERYONE around. You, me, EVERYONE. Im not angry about THAT bible. There are many, many more. Let those instigators, "fall of their own feet".
