If your PC refuses to power on, or maybe a disk drive is not being recognised then you might have a problem with your PC power supply PSU.
It is really easy to test if the PSU is working by bridging the pins on the 24 pin power connection. You can use almost any metal object to do this, a small piece of wire, a paperclip, maybe a twist stick.
These will get the job done. Alternatively there are devices made for this task starting from a basic PSU tester, Or you might want a more detailed look at voltages and wattages, This is where a device like the Thermaltake DR Power III can be really useful. especially on modern ATX3.0 anf PCIe Gen5 power supplies.
You can check to see the 12v 3.3v and 5v rails, and even see what your PCIE and EPS plugs are doing.
For those with an Nvidia GPU you can even check to see what the 12v HPWR or 12+4 power cable is able to put out. including checking the sense pins.
Hopefully this video will give you some ideas and help with PSU power diagnosis.

For years I use a multi meter to check the PSU, but last year I bought one of those fancy PSU testers and either works good if you know what watts or voltage you're checking for.
the multimeter is a good choice if you know what you are doing with it and know how to read the values

they are very handy, the TT one actually has some nice features , but any of them will do for basic testing
Many people don't read the instructions, forget to plug the PSU 24-pin power cable into the digital tester, and wonder why the tester isn't working. If the tester begins to melt in their hand, it's a sure sign that their PSU is bad. Some people need to remember to plug their PSU into a wall outlet and that it has a power switch. Sometimes, it's the simple things we forget to do.

Did buy a PSU 2 or 3 years ago. but never did use it 😛
I had built from a psu 2 12 volt connectors to the psu to use as a outlet 12 volt connectors for other appliances , I also used the 5 volt and put a usb on the box to use as a usb port to either charge phone or a for a fan , you can be surprised what you can do with a psu mike .

Can i plug an older IDE HDD (molex), just to PSU that way,to test if HDD is spinning ?
yes put you still need to short the pins in the 24 pin power connection
Mike, I need some input, I have a refurbished msi mpg a1000g bought from scan it was missing the 12vhpwr cable for my 4080 super.
I contacted scan they said they could send me a 12vhpwr cable from a msi meg ai1300p 1300w psu.
Would this cable be fine to use?
Is there anyway to check they use the same connectors

as far as i am aware all of the cables are the same pin wise so even aftermarket ones will be okay. the only thing is that they have the sense pin to tell the PSU if the cable is 150w 300w 450w or 600w
