When you return to Shadow Mosses in MGS4 and this song kicks in....chills
One of the best moments in a franchise, goosebumps over the whole body.
Best Metal Gear song. No second opinion needed XD
@@Firesdale snake eater is good too, the acapella version climbing the ladder
I didnt get chills, i cried. Had to put the controller down
Whoever had this idea to return to shadow moses deserves everything good
Metal gear actually has a lot of music like this
It really comes from metal gear solid's contemplative nature about war. All the bad, the horrifying, and the unfortunate, as well as what meaning can be found in it for soldiers and those forced to fight.
A lot of the sci-fi elements are used more to explore the very nature of war itself, or (often times) about what defines and drives us as humans.
There are a lot of other great tracks to look at, like Calling to the Night, or Sins of the Father, or many, many others
I knew this song for years. But when I read the translation of the lyrics in English, man it brought me to tears. The lyrics are heartbreaking yet hopeful given Snakes situation.
"You mustn't allow yourself to be chained to fate, to be ruled by your genes. Human beings can choose the kind of life that they want to live. What's important is that you choose life... and then live."
-Naomi Hunter (1998)
one of my favourite game songs of all time. it plays at the very final cutscene when the player is experiencing the biggest emotions, processing everything they went through, meanwhile a very emotional philosophical monologue is happening, telling the player to go do something meaningful with their life. metal gear solid 1 is not a typical military game, your goal isn't to kill your enemies, and behind all metal gear games is a somber hope that maybe one day people will be able to stop fighting.
There is also a version of it that sounds after Sniper Wolf shots Meryl, during the conversation in which Meryl asks you to leave her,and its also emotional AF
Can you still remember
When little things made you happy?
And can you still remember
When simple things made you smile?
Life can be so simple
If you can only see
Whatever happened to those days?
Whatever happened to those nights?
Can you still remember
When little things made you sad?
Can you still remember
When simple things made you cry?
Is it just me or is it just us?
Feeling lost in this world?
Why do we have to cause this pain?
Why do we have to weep tears?
Please tell me
We're not alone
In this world
Fighting the wind
Life can be simple
If you can only see
The best is yet to come
Back in 1999 (PAL PS1 player here lol) this song went straight to my heart, and it stayed there ever since. Playing MGS4 back in 2008...it hit god damn hard. It's so beautiful
They used bits of this song throughout the game, especially during codec calls between Snake and Naomi.
The song titled " the best is yet to come" is another instance of foreseeing future with this series. In my opinion second part is the greatest in gaming history.
When I first heard this I thought, I recognise that language.... then I realised it was in Irish and not only that it was being sung by one of my favourite Irish language singers, Aoife Ní Fhearraigh.
I think that the purpose of choosing a more somber song like that is to tie into (one of) the underlying theme of the series. That being Snake longs for the day that he doesn't have to fight anymore.
Which stands to logic with the original ending of MGS4 that was cut because (reasons go here).
Sure, I can see that
I used to watch the Tokyo Game Show trailer for MGS1 like once a day when I was a kid off the VR Missions disc and it was beautifully set to this song.
Considering what you go through in Metal Gear Solid this song gives you a nice moment to let it all sink in.
I’m no hero… never was… never will be.
Despite having a military environment and black ops espionage, the story told is a personal drama. In Metal Gear, Kojima explores what would become of a family originating from a military experiment, how they relate to each other, solve their problems, and bring to light their past and family roots.
I know MGSV takes place before the events of MGS1, but at least including it in the cassette tapes would've been beautiful. Or when they were talking about the sons of Big Boss or something.
You haven't reacted to The Best is Yet to Come if you haven't break down crying like a little kid. As soon as the game ends and you put the controller down, the end credits kick in this starts to play and you are finally released. It's like a dam breaks and you're flooded with this mix of intense emotions.
There is nothing that can prepare you for what you're about to experience when you first play it. MGS1 isn't just a game. It's something so far beyond that. Words cannot describe it. And the effect it has on people is life changing. This is something that stays with a person for the rest of their lives.
the point is between the song and the nature videos as the credits roll. when you're a born warrior the intensity of violence fades into the background through repetition. fighting and hating drift apart like ships on the ocean, one unable to rely on the other. so what keeps the fight going once adrenaline has lost its kick? beauty. love. dreaming of a better tomorrow. once you understand this you get why snake is calm and yet fights like such a demon that an abrams tank couldn't stop him. alone. flesh and bone. this song is for those who face death and smile.
Ya got to check out Snake Eater the Mgs3 Opening as well, feels like a early bond film opening.
Please do heavens divide from MGS Peacewalker its my favorite ❤
Did he know the song was in Gaelic/Irish?
ohh okay he does, yeah I think we might grown up a bit similar in regards to games. I played tons of MGS and RTS games MGS got me into Splinter cell to which is another great stealth game, not as crazy as MGS but still fun.
Well, Kojima didn't lie.
My favourite part of this song is 2:42 where the lady sings: "Sony is a shit in our mouth". I swear I will never unhear it again
Seen that comment on another video -- yeah its funny lol
