I bought mine new in 04. Regular maintenance and a good mechanic helps me keep it on the road for the last 20 years. Honestly I’m afraid to buy anything else. You need to do more research before saying something that is not true. There are plenty of good cars that are not well maintained.
Well the van overall is ok but as for the motor they probably should've went with something like a 3800 (which were the best motors GM made) when putting these vans together. Them 3400s had problems and weren't that good of performance.
Actually, one of the best mini vans ever built, second only to the Toyota. Also, one of the most reliable engines chevy has built. Mine has over 300K and still burns no oil between changes. Small electrical gremlins but to be expected for a 20-year-old van lol.
I still own and operate a 2001 Chevrolet venture with 175k miles. In the last decade the only repair was to failed heater hoses. The exterior and interior of the car is pristine. No rust of any kind. If you are not getting much power check your fuel trims.
I've been living out of my gold 2005 venture for nearly 3 years. Breaks, a few headlights and blinkers, oil changes, and one battery. That's all I've had to deal with, and for a minivan its not that much of a nightmare to work on. His name is Nigel the gold nugget and I'm gonna drive him into the ground. Already put 75,000 miles on him. He had 100,000 when I got him.
Have had mine for years, just drove it 400 miles today, 25 mpg @ 75mph the whole way! Sure its rusty, doesn’t ride the best, and has bad paint, but who cares when it runs like a dream and has served me well for going on 5 years and 180k miles!
I still have my 2000 Chevy Venture van, 6 cyl, and have no idea what this guy is talking about. My engine has good acceleration. Never have had water in the headlights like he was claiming. Maybe he was used to a 8 cyl engine. I am glad I bought mine. Have 200K miles and has never burned oil. Yes the engine is cramped when working on it. Wish I could buy another.
Well, my family and I had a 1999 Venture and drove it continuously for 20 years. It had over 350k miles on it. Sadly we lost it to a bad wreck a couple years ago. If it weren't for that, we'd still be driving it today. I'm sure some of them have some problems, but ours was great and we loved it. These ventures will always have a special place in my heart.
I'm on my third Venture, and have had great service out of all of them. Why the third? The first one was a victim of a deer doing "Suicide by Car" and the second got knocked out from under me by a Toyota running a red light. The Venture has been my daily driver for the last 20 years and can't say anything bad about them!
I have a 2004 Chevy Venture and have had great luck. None of the things have happened with mine that you say. “Tallulah” has been very good to me. Minor issues. Have just turned mine into a mini camper van.
We bought a 2000 venture brand new 205,000 later and now 2021 we still have it. Brakes, tires, fuel gauge, water pump is all we've done to this thing. Awesome van!!
My grandmother had a 2001 Oldsmobile silhouette and my dad had a 98 silhouette I practically grew up in those vans they were awesome I still have my grandmothers 2001 she gave it to me when I turned was 16 220k still going strong
I did the front wheel bearings on my $500 2002 Venture. Rust in the rockers, otherwise, with the seats out this this handles great and goes like stink. Those front wheel bearings are a NIGHTMARE to remove. the hub bolts are the worst, and re-installing the lower control arm requires a trick you won't know until you realize it's the only way to do it. If I did it agian (which I never will) it would be a lot easier, particularly on my vehicle where all fasteners removed were wire brushed and slathered with anti-seize. In reality they were all in good shape having NEVER been removed probably! I also did both CV axles (drivers side required borrowing a slide hammer with CV Joint rt. angle removal jaw - once I had this it was very easy.
I have not had one single problem mentioned in this video with my Venture. It has over 200K miles. I find it to be peppy, more than Duractec Taurus. The only downside is the rear spark plugs and the thermostat is hard to replace...the alternator too, but I haven't had to yet.
The tapping noise is the hot/cold blend door or the fresh/recirculate actuator trying to locate. A gear inside is failure prone. Try the other setting. My Montana (same van) usually clicks on fresh and stops clicking on recirculate. I’ve ordered a replacement. Anyway, this whole “nitrogen in the headlights” things sounds… inaccurate.
We have a 2004 Chevy Venture with almost 500,000 kms on it, and it's running really well. While it was on warranty, the transmission was replaced. Model years of the Venture older than 2003 may have faulty head gaskets; something to keep in mind.
Has a lot to do with the old dexcool coolant. I switched to standard coolant when I got mine and all good. The old dexcool was acidic and would eat away at gaskets.
First bigger repair I’ve had to do. Starter died at 243k. Probably partially my fault. Needed to change the oil pressure switch cause it was leaking, but was being lazy. It saturated the starter in oil which probably didn’t help.
My family has had two of these minivans and they both had either overheating issues, engine failure and both had the check engine light turn on after 45k miles on the dot. Could be a coincidence but the experience made me see how bad these cars can be
Mine runs smoothly as silk, has lots of power, not a drop leaking anywhere, and with the back seats (2 rows) removed it goes like stink and handles like a race car. I do not exaggerate. I bought it a month ago for $500. 179k miles. The wipers are perfect, heatings is great, car does't overheat, blah de blah. I perhaps got lucky.
Really??? Well have to say that I own a 2003 Chevrolet Venture and I love mine!!! Obviously you have one that has been maintained well!!! I get 22 miles per gallon with mine!!! Also 3.4 L and plenty of power!! I have well over 200,000 miles on mine and I have owned it now 14 years!!! And yes they do have an issue with the head gasket failure on these engines!!! I repaired mine myself!! I do my own repairs!! Was like at the 200,00 miles mark when it failed!!!! Was worth fixing!!! Rides like like a dream!!! So I you must have gotten a very poorly maintained Venture!!! And driven very hard!!!! So sorry!!! But you are wrong!!! Go buy Chrysler mini van !!! They are the worst mini van ever made!!!
Our venture would destroy the head gasket in 10,000miles. We had it replaced I believe 4 times, then we finally gave up on the money pit when the transmission started slipping.
Have owned one for 20 years. No issues at all. Finally replace the front bearings, and some steering components this year. Motors are work horses. This guy knows nothing.
Tomorrow I'm scheduled to check out a 2002 venture with 100k miles $2500 asking price , and a 2006 sienna with 90k miles asking price . I'm told the sienna needs a shock spring replaced which looks like it will cost about $750 , which seems like a lot . The venture is claimed to be ready to go doesn't need anything right now . Any recommendations about which of these is the better option ?
Less than 2 percent of vehicles make it to 200,000 miles man. Your venture has made it to 234,000 miles!!!!! Your vehicle has more than served its purpose and probably is near the end of it life. @@charliebutterfield2223 I liked it, but the head gasket situation was just so bad. After we got rid of the 2000 Venture. We bought a 2008 Chevy Uplander after that. That was an awesome van. Sold it with 160,000! Never had an issue!
Rental car companies bring their vehicles to our shop for maintenance. They brought a 21 Pacifica. That thing was nice. Nearly 300hp with the trip computer showing average 24 mpg and had a 900w Harmon/kardon 20 speaker audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay
If you cold start it and wait 1 minute after you start it,shut the engine off then restart it, I can bet you a million bucks it will hesitate to start or your going to have to wait an hour or 30 minutes for the engine to be able to start up again it's so weird I dont know why these engines have that issue
Maybe that was the problem with ours.... or sometimes we would drive to the store come out and it would hesitate to start it was annoying but it wouldn't do It all the time
It's just messed up from poor maintenance. I've seen BMW's and Mercedes worse than this, that doesn't mean they're bad cars. Just means they had bad owners. I've also seen a 1992 Honda a few weeks back that was in immaculate condition. That doesn't make Honda the best car out there, just means it had a respectful owner.
Awesome how this Van interchanges with like 4 that are the same underneith the hood. LeRned that @ the salvage yard. Montero exactly except interior & Pontiac.😊
I have a 98 venture van with only 139 thousand miles and haven't had anything major needing replaced yet just the basic tune up stuff so are we sure it's the vehicle or is it the driver? 🤷♀️🤔
Mines at like 225k possibly higher gonna look after i finish my dinner but mines honestly treated me pretty well other than it starts a lil funky sometimes screeches too while i turn in certain directions at certain speeds
Someone removed the wiper arm and reinstalled it in the wrong position. Park the wipers then remove whichever one(s) aren’t parked at the bottom where they belong and reattach them where they belong. Simple.
I'm driving my second one today. The Chevrolet Trans Sport AWD. I love this cars. Thi last one is deep black with tinted windows. 2002. In good shape for his age. The only issue I had was a suddenly temparture problem. I've instantly bleed the cooling system and it's fine again. Also the back rockers on both sides will be changed. I hope to make a lot of km with the car.
@@AndrewBrown-st9wk Yes. It"s a good one. One owner before and with very very well maintenance through the years. When you observe the car you think it's 8 or 10 years old The interior is as new.
Ha ha. I have a 2005 that's on its way out. I'm a low income senior and have nothing saved for my next vehicle. Blah blah. My van has always had electrical problems. Rust is bad now. My God I tried to put brake fluid in it and it's nearly impossible. I mean there's no room to pour it in.
Just click bait troll. 1998 FWD Venture still going strong. More Ventures on the road today than other minivans of the era. More pickup than my son's 2011 Chevy Malibu. As Emperor Palpatine says, "power, unlimited power." I tested out the Caravan prior to buying the Venture in 2001 and the Caravan lacked power. Gasket did have issue, just replaced it a year back.

I'm pretty sure that guy knows what he's talking about and I'm a car guy myself growing up around mechanics and I know about them vans. He's right they are no good. It'll get you from point a to point b but don't expect it to last you like these other cars that are built and perform alot better than these old raggedy vans.
@@deanfarr3249I have a 2005 Chevy Uplander which is basically the same thing as the Venture. A couple of months ago the one two shift solenoid and went out causing the van to have no first gear and no 4th gear. Still using it as a daily driver. The problem now is super slow take off because it is taking off and second gear. Other than that I can't tell that it doesn't have fourth gear because it will run 75-85 on the freeway all day long. It's a 2005 and both the front and rear air conditioning still work. The sliding doors on both sides still work with the push of a button. Even the DVD player that drops down from the top still works. My stereo still works. Over 200,000 mi and it doesn't use oil. So yeah, this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He has an opinion. Everybody has one of those.
234752 miles. Mine has 314000, coolant's fans are common to get corrosion on the wires and burn in two causing overheating. Easy repair and a very trustworthy vehicle. Even if the intake gaskets or head gaskets need replaced this is one of the few engines I would actually do the repair as opposed to swapping the engine
Previous owner of mine decided it was a good idea to replace the 30 amp fan fuses with 60’s instead of finding what was blowing the fuses (bad motor drawing too much current). They ended up melting the terminals to the fan relays. I bought a small relay box and rebuilt the cooling fan circuit into that.
@@kd7cwg Just hit 316k. Replaced the intake and head gaskets at 240k because of the cooling fan connector melting from corrosion. I use 0w40 and flush all the fluids yearly.
Your absolutely correct I paid 500 for a 2003 Chevy venture and the front wipers only work on high one day they stopped working on low and intermittent. Drivers side brake lights stop working seems the sockets get super hot and the plastic melts so the bulbs dont get good connection. The bulbs are fine just the brake light socket warps. I now have to replace the entire circuit board even though the other 3 lights work perfectly fine. Heater only works half of the time and the temperature gauge goes crazy it like floats to hot then cold? Garbage van!
People may or may not agree with you and that's normal. The critique on this video I HAVE is the introduction of this video is the absolute worst I have ever seen. Again, no one has to agree or disagree with me on that. That's normal.
If you think the Venture is bad, give the Uplander a spin. It somehow is even worse. All the bad traits of an SUV and minivan all in one package. Less cupholders too. Absolute bore to drive.
@@AndrewBrown-st9wk It's a shame because GM had a last gasp chance to reverse their fortunes and basically just took the same van platform and cheapened it out. The bigger tires don't do the thing any justice at all. The thing couldn't even get out of it's own way and oddly enough these things rusted out faster then the Chryslers.. like not even 5 years old and the plastic was falling off of the door sill because of rust! I call it an opportunity missed. GM didn't want to invest in to that platform anymore then it had to. I feel sorry for the suckers who bought the Buick versions. Well what minivan would you choose out of all them to drive ?
@@AlphaKings Toyota Sienna
@@graynash98 I would drive a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey,
Rental car companies bring their vehicles to our shop for maintenance.
Mine ended up being the idle air control motor. Was stuck closed so had to give a little throttle in order for it to stay running.
You just don't repair it and leave it dying, what a waste
Best part is, when this drivetrain gives up , the entire ls4 v8 and engine cradle from an impala ss bolts right in…..😁
Awesome how this Van interchanges with like 4 that are the same underneith the hood.
Simple.
Yes window electric problems ,battery is ridiculous to get too, radiator cap is right on the battery. 90% of what he saying is correct.
You found a good one, the van in my video was in very bad condition and had been abused by the last 2 owners.
@@AndrewBrown-st9wk Yes. It"s a good one. One owner before and with very very well maintenance through the years. When you observe the car you think it's 8 or 10 years old The interior is as new.
Thank god I bought an Oldsmobile silhouette
Bought an 01 silhouette in April 2019 for $900 with 149k. Hit 243k today. Just repaired wear items.

Headlights are not an issue anymore…..
Yeah dude, mine beats v6 mustangs and Camaros, there good vans this guy is just a sissy trying to get views
Any recommendations about which of these is the better option ?
i still have a 2001 venture...started having some issues over heating...cant quite figure it out
I suspect that this guy isn't even old enough to know what he's talking about
I'm pretty sure that guy knows what he's talking about and I'm a car guy myself growing up around mechanics and I know about them vans.
I've had mine over 4 years now has over 200 thou on her been a very dependable Van for 2 thou bucks...maybe he got a bad one ?
This shit is one of the best selling minivans in China after GM rebranded them as Buick GL8
@@kd7cwg How many miles did you end up driving it after you repaired the cooling fans?
@@singularautomotive3542 been around 20k miles since and still going
@@kd7cwg Just hit 316k. Replaced the intake and head gaskets at 240k because of the cooling fan connector melting from corrosion. I use 0w40 and flush all the fluids yearly.
Fuel pump?
Your absolutely correct I paid 500 for a 2003 Chevy venture and the front wipers only work on high one day they stopped working on low and intermittent. Drivers side brake lights stop working seems the sockets get super hot and the plastic melts so the bulbs dont get good connection. The bulbs are fine just the brake light socket warps. I now have to replace the entire circuit board even though the other 3 lights work perfectly fine. Heater only works half of the time and the temperature gauge goes crazy it like floats to hot then cold? Garbage van!
Doesn’t sound like it been maintained at all lol
I have a 02 and never had a problem with it, love it !
i fucking love my 04 venture, i do nothing but beat on it and she treats me great
Hell yeah I got a 04 aswell she beats v6 mustangs and camaros and even challengers and chargers on a good day
I have a 203k 2004 still on same tranny and engine. Engine bay sucks to work on tho haha
I'd rather have a bicycle. I'm dead serious. Pretty much despise this vehicle.
Car is at 230,000 miles and you're saying it sucks when modern cars aren't even getting to 80,000 miles these days.
Seems pretty okay to me 🤷♂️
lets not talk about safety... euro ncap, iihs and even nhtsa proves that these vans are death traps
Big cap I own this van and it's amazing I don't have any problems with mine. Also your voice is annoying
The face is annoying also!!!
You didn't like the lisp?
Yes very and mines has also been great
I wish I never signed the title on my Piece of S*** I regret it so finally I've decided to junk it
That was a good idea!
Mine has 200k+ miles with no problems, you just don't know how to take care of vehicles
I have a 96 only problem stolen c-converter box
People may or may not agree with you and that's normal. The critique on this video I HAVE is the introduction of this video is the absolute worst I have ever seen. Again, no one has to agree or disagree with me on that. That's normal.
If you think the Venture is bad, give the Uplander a spin. It somehow is even worse. All the bad traits of an SUV and minivan all in one package. Less cupholders too. Absolute bore to drive.
Yeah, I see many Uplanders in Local Junkyard. I heard that they the worst GM Van.
Few more grand they could have bought a Honda or Toyota..
You can get a Toyota sienna
I love mine, all cars need fixing but 200kplus lol how bout tell us the best one, u have zero evidence besides ur opinion that these suck. I currently have a 97(yes a 97) and I've been more than happy with mine. All machines require maintenance and unless ur a professional mechanic save the "they always' line. It doesnt sound educated, it sounds like LAZY. Ur mileage says it all.
If you're going to take the energy to tell the world that poor you your 2,000k mileage van is having issues, be prepared for backlash in the comment section😁
My 97 venture has 91,000 & runs like a champ. Yeah it ugly yeah it’s heavy yeah it sucks gas but has never once left my by the side of the road.
I’ve personally seen these vans with 300000 miles & still run so go drive you ford wind star nerd.
Just because someone didn't take care of that one doesn't mean theyre all the worst, besides the Nissan quest is the worst minivan ever
Yeah, I heard those were bad vans.
But my 04 in 2009 it's not 2023 just replace my brake pads in 2021
Your so wrong, mines is faster then v6 muscle cars, it's honestly a decent van, mine has 200k+ miles on it and has had no problems, all your statements are false
