    In your video you can clearly see the bottom of rocks and it looks pretty shallow. How much of the swim is like that? And was that right at the beginning oe closer to the island?

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  2 місяці тому

      Sorry. Just seeing this week after the race
      Just some parts are shallow
      If you stay to the right before the island, you’ll run into some shallow waters based on other people’s experience

    Could you please help me. I have just started learning to swim over the last few months and I want to do a 70.3 Ironman I’m having trouble with learning the breathing. Could you explain what I need to do? Do I breath out as soon as my face hits the water and grab more air every two strokes or do I hold my breath and let it out just before grabbing more air? It’s been months of training and I can only get about 200 meters also how do you swim with a faster stroke in triathlon swimming with people because I know it’s different then swimming in a pool where you try to glide Because in open water people and hit you and mess up your stroke please help thanks

      Hey, I would work on doing bobbs in the water. So you're stationary and you're just going up and down (above and under water).
      Breathe in when you're out of water and breathe out through your nose when you're underwater.
      If you're fast enough and have a good technique, you should be able to get hit and still keep somewhat of a perfect technique in open water.
      I offer coaching if you want me to really help you get that swim ready. I have a survey on my site: thesimonshi dot com
      Looking forward to hearing from you! -Simon

    What kind of handlebar bag do you have on the Dimond? I'm rocking the Marquise as well and that set up for training rides looks awesome!

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  3 місяці тому

      I have a Buriito bag I got from a bike race. Nice to have up front to carry more stuff in it. I think it's called a handlebar bag or something

    I'll be there! So, left of the Island then make your way to the center beyond, spot a lone tree, right turn to swim out. Do most people break 20 minutes on the swim or is that just because you're a super fast swimmer?

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  3 місяці тому +1

      Yep! Good luck out there!
      The current was fast that day. It tends to slow down a bit in July but still, slow swimmers will literally be going fast and have a swim PR!
      I swam 16:10 last year I think.

    You said swim to the left of the island, is there a possibility that the current will take you on the right side of it and miss the left side?

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  3 місяці тому +1

      I don't think so. You have plenty of time and the water pretty much flows to the left of the island so no issue there.

    I will be middle of the afternoon finisher, shading still there on the run?

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  4 місяці тому

      Yes. A little less in some spots but still will be some shade on the course

    How’s the wind?

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  3 місяці тому +1

      It wasn’t that bad on that day. A lot of parts are very open out in the country roads. So if there are any winds, my guess is you’ll be affected
      Pretty shaded the first section on river road

    I did this race twice, I think it's the easiest 70.3 that we have right now by far!

    • @SimonShi
      @SimonShi  4 місяці тому +1

      Haha I “easiest” yeah. Always hard but definitely has some fast parts to the course!
