The thing with aespa is they were never known for having strong dances. Yes, Black Mamba, their debut was a gag for that drop in the chorus, but on stage they weren't really known for great choreo, especially with groups like ITZY killing it at the time. Same with their lip-syncing, they were made fun of the first two years of their career for never singing live. They addressed that in 2023, and I guess 2024 is aespa switching people's perspectives of them as being a dance-weak group. They're far from perfect, but they've also come a long way and nobody can say they suck at performance now. Also your take on the choreo is so fucking satisfying. Each move was with intention, it was clean, the shapes were razor sharp and I absolutely love the choice of having the left arm a bit relaxed so it just followed whatever movement the shoulder does on the "whip-whiplash" instead of what the original does where it's stiff and essentially glued to the thigh like Giselle's feature - it just makes it so much cooler and makes sense to the "whiplash" concept better. AND THAT SCORPION move was perfect; having your fist on your hip instead of the chest makes the hip move more noticeable.

More than just enjoying the choreography as a viewer, I LOVE being given the opportunity to be a geek about dance and relive my excitement about with fellow dancers/fans. I think I've always been a fan of aespa's music, but them being able to add dance to the things they can entertain us with, makes the experience of being their supporter much more worthwhile. Like now I have sick dance moves to go with my listening experience.

it's nice to see people like you acknowledge aespa's hard work in improving performance-wise but i think it's important to distinguish between the valid criticism and unwarranted hatred, and unfortunately for the first 2 years of their career it was mostly the latter. what aespa experienced wasn't as much the 'improvement' narrative that you're referring to (although they did indeed improve a lot), but more so them moving past an unwarranted smear campaign that started from predebut until late 2022. that's not to say that they did not deserve any criticism whatsoever, however they weren't anywhere as 'particularly bad' as they were made out to be yet never received any of the grace other kpop groups received/continue to receive for lacking in certain areas (e.g. many popular kpop groups are lacking in the vocal department, which is arguably much more important than dancing) + honestly the lip syncing stuff was SO blown out of proportion considering practically every other kpop group lip synced as much as they did, save for groups specifically known for singing live (+ I'm sorry but it's just unreasonable to expect aespa to have belted out songs like savage live WHILE dancing in exchange for the mere pennies idols earn from those weekly music shows lmao)
@@ningiyizhuo it is true that they lipsynced every single performance tho. its not just a narrative. i agree other groups lipsync too but aespa had 0 live performances their first two years. this was a big deal bc in 2020 before *cough cough* hybe groups popped off, most groups did sing live at least a few times each comeback. i agree that they dont hate for it but its okay for people to be disappointed especially considering they're supposed to be sm vocalists.
Wow I suscribe. K-pop is so complex that's why I love it so much. Lyrics, melody, emotions with the delivery, vocal, rap, cinematography and dance. It's a whole package. And fangirling of course. I suscribed at every channel possible to appreciate everything separately. Thank you for your insight.

i love your dance analyses. I hope you can react to bini too. they're a PPOP girl group who really does have satisfying choreos and known for synchronization too. I would recommend you to watch their dance practices/rehearsals for 1) pantropiko, 2) salamin salamin, and 3) karera.
