What an interesting story of conversion. He was an atheist with a Protestant background, and his mother was a suporter of the Catholic Church. And he converted after the death of his mother trought writings of Thomas Merton catholic monk, in Serbian-Ortodox monastery, and finally he became an anchorit in Coptic Ortodox Church (and Blessed Virgin, our Holy Mother Mary was with him trought all this way to the Son of God, her only Son). He is in a true sense Catholicos, in some way all of christian churces and comunities somehow influenced his way to Jesus Christ, to the Church. Greetings from Croatia, from one Catholic. The Copts with other oriental churches and the eastern orthodox church believe in the same thing, just expressed differently. The Oriental Orthodox used St Cyrill of Alexandrias methiod of looking at the natures of Jesus, and The Eastern othrodox church used the council of chalcedon
The Coptic church is the church of Alexandria, the church of Saint Athanasius the one who protected the faith and the foundation for monasticism and FYI, the title of Pope was held by the patriarch of the church of Alexandria ~250 years before Rome

Holy Eitr i think you misunderstood: vain is the keyword here. like about me me me what i want and ego.might want to research this more. Jesus prayer is to draw the mind in to a trance ...to draw you in to a meditation and communion with God. if you give it a try you will see it's extremely powerful deep prayer. Monks use this alot from all traditions. And the Rosary is the most effective weapon against the devil. if it doesn't work for you then don't use it - simple. no need to criticize their ways because they're different....many paths to God.
I wouldn't think too much about it. It's possible he was born in one place and educated in another. My husband is a global citizen and has his own, unique accent.
