  • Twisters, whirlwinds, cyclones, a Tornado by any name is a force of nature not to be reckoned with. These are a vortex of air spinning at high speeds and can be very dangerous, destructive, but also really beautiful if observed safely.
In this episode, we’re going to create a small tornado in a jar so we can safely observe!
The downloadable PDF worksheet for this experiment can be found here:

    -Supplies-
    Jar with Lid
    Water
    Dish Soap
We also added some Silver Mica Powder for a second attempt to make it appear more like a storm!
    -Instructions-
    1. Fill the jar with water and 1 tablespoon (or a couple squirts) or dish soap.
    2. Shake the jar to create bubbles, then let it sit for a minute so they all float out the top of the water.
    3. With one hand on top and the other hand on the bottom, move the jar in a circular motion to get all of the liquid spinning.
    4. Watch the vortex spin and repeat or change the experiment!
