With all due respect the Kalyanji-Anandjibhai, for every two songs, there was a song composed by our Pancham (RD Burman). This is the legacy of Pancham that one cannot complete the show without his compositions. I miss you my Pancham. Hope you had lived longer to give us more such classics. Anyways, I am sure wherever you are, you must be enlightening some home.
"Naam gum jaayega, chehra ye badal jaayega, meri aawaz hi pehchan hain, garr yaad rahein" what a composition by Pancham and what a singing by Lataji. This is a power of music. This song and many thousands of such songs will never die.

The real beauty of this episode for me is hearing all female Bengali singers sing so beautifully. I, personally feel that Bengali singers have a distinct voice quality that's very mellow and soulful. You can feel a very distinct sense of melody in Bengali compositions , as well.
Shreya Goshal is undoubtedly a brilliant singer, and Debosmita is another great one in the making, followed by Sonakshi, Sanjuti and Bidipta.

@tgelyriclover, you are very much mistaken. I am an Urdu speaker from Pakistan. My grandparents originated from Lucknow, UP in India. I am not even remotely connected to anyone from Bengali origin.
It's best not to jump to conclusions, rather focus on comprehending the content of people's comments. I wrote what I feel is unique in Bengali singers or composers.
I possess an open mind, and appreciate what I see good in anyone. Irrespective of colour, caste, creed , faith etc.

@thelyriclover , no one, can undermine the talent of Lata Mangeshkar or Asha Bhonsle. But, the voice quality that I find in Bengali singers, be it from Indian Bengal or Bangladesh is different from other regions of Indian subcontinent. I fail to understand, why is it so difficult to understand, that personal preference are always there, but it doesn't mean that other singers are any less. Every singer has their own distinctive style and appreciated for it.
Syrraiya, Geeta Dutt, Shamshad Begum, Suman Kalyanpur, each had their own style of singing, and were pure joy to listen. In recent times Sadhna Sargam, Anuradha Paudwal, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal have been melodious voices. But, none could compare with Lata Mangeshkar or Asha Bhonsle. But, then again, the lilting melody in Bengali singers is still only in them , I see. Be it Geeta Dutt, Shreya Ghoshal, Runa Laila, Shehnaz Begum, Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar.
While I love to listen to Rafi, Talat Mahmood, Mukesh as well.
I agree. Bengali singers are special. As are Marathi and South Indian singers.
However my favourites are Lata ji and Noorjehan ji

This episode proves how much superior was Lata's grasp of the composition. No one can match up to it. This is over and above her emotion, voice and everything else. Of course we should not forget that the composers would insist on conveying the exact nuances they wanted. Singers must use greater discretion when improvising. The composition sometimes gets destroyed by improvising so to be done only to enhance it if possible. Sometimes straight singing too is needed. For example while saying 'hum' at the end of the line if you take a murki or khatka you destroy its resonance.
