I expect that Mora doesn't really care what happens to most of the mortals that enter his realm. The library is for him and his servants to use, and his bargains are probably more along the lines of "tell me what I want to know, and you can peruse my library*" than "tell me what I want to know, and I'll show you the book that you need." *Perusal does not ensure safety or sanity of the mortal, and being allowed to leave is also not guaranteed. He isn't all knowing, he just has a lot of knowledge. He is a horder of knowledge, craving knowledge wanting to know all that their is to know. Anything that he doesen't know is a source of interest to him, from the knowledge of how the universe came into being to how to do a handstand while spinning in a circle. Useless of incredible all knowledge is of interest to him.
Dragonborn: I wish for a shout to warp time Hermaeus Mora: Granted, my champion... Dragonborn:SHOUTS FOR A TIME LOOP Also Dragonborn: Hermaeus I've come to bargain
I love how surprisingly chill Hermaeus is when you enter Apocrytha for the first time if you haven't done his specific Skyrim quest beforehand; even going so far as to point out that his realm is dangerous and you're probably making a mistake toddling in unprepared.
I love your channel man, lore and therioes is the best part of skyrim, and you make it very easy to learn it all. Thanks for the video, please keep it up.
I'd like to point out that you have the option of refusing Hermaous at the end of the Dragonborn DLC and not become his champion. He does mock you though, saying that you'll serve him eventually. So it's up for interpretation if the Dovahkin serves him or not.
Wirr Ling, well, as cool as that would be, it would have been EXTREMELY lore breaking as the oblivion realms are a part of the daedric prince, and he could simply erase you from it, theoretically of course.
If herma mora really can divine the future, which it is very likely he can, then when he says you will serve him eventually, he knows it to be true. Why try so hard to convince the Dragonborn to become his champion when he knows that the temptation of knowledge will one day do so for him?
SuperTelsaCoil fuck that. That'd be stupid, games with more agency > games with less agency. I should be able to give the finger to evil assholes period. I like telling that punk Dagon no, then he sends his daedra like lambs to the slaughter.
Make fun of Tai Lopez all you want, but he has freedom and power. The only way to have freedom and power is to have money. The only way to get money is to have knowledge.
Mora isn't evil, just neutral. In my opinion. He helps. Anyone looking for knowledge, provided they don't go insane. He will do anything for secrets. Whether it involves giving him all the knowledge he wants or getting someone else the knowledge they want to have the other one pushing a black book in the others face and ripping the knowledge out of him. He also treats his worshippers well, unlike most daedric princes. As long as they don't betray him. I think the only reason miraak tried to escape was because miraak is really arrogant and hates being a servant. Any god would punish betrayal, like I'm sure stendarr would punish you if you're a vigilant and choose to become a werewolf or a vampire. Choose, not as an accident. Same with other gods whose tenets you break. The orc guy for instance, who failed in the quest the cursed tribe. Malacath punished him. But malacath isn't an evil daedra. Or if a follower of Meridia willingly turned into a lich, or a vampire lord, Meridia would punish him heavily. Or how hircine cursed her ring. It's Normal for the gods even if they are good to punish betrayal.
He may be a creepy tentacle being spawned from manifested unused ideas, living in a super weird realm, but I DO love a good library & would gladly be Mora's Champion. I haven't yet gotten to this point in my latest playthrough, but I look forward to it. Except the Miraak fight, only because it stalled me for so long with a glitch I had trouble getting past. Plus, I could always down 1 of the 2 dragons, but never the 2nd one for so long. Miraak had disappeared where I couldn't find him to kill him & sources online said I had 2 bring down the 2nd dragon to get him to glitch back in. Pain in my REAR. So, if we all serve Hermaeus Mora, does that make Fudge Muppet my co-workers?!!! LOL. Love you guys. Keep it up. You guys all rock my TES Mundus. That sounds vaguely salacious, sorry.
Oh, I eventually passed it long ago. Can't even remember what I did to fix it back then, but now I have a better solution, thanks to you when I have to face him in my current playthrough, if it happens again. :) Thank you 4 that.
Technically yes, (to your last question) and also, Herma is essentially destiny incarnate. Also, spoiler: according to the lore, Akatosh grants humans the dragonblood in pity, which is what Herma does. So there is that also...
That's what I love about the Daedra. With Hermaeus Mora you can tell tales of Lovecraftian horror back to back with Gothic horror (Molag Bal), Celtic hunt spirits (Hircine) and Medieval "Doom" (Mehrunes Dagon), among others.
The godhead reminds me of the character azathoth from Lovecrafts stories, the god that dreamed the existence of the rest of the world. In fact much of the lore surrounding Hermaeus Mora is basically ripped out of Lovecraft novels.
Shy Shiba I'm sorry I know this is old but Azathoth is the one if he wakes up it would literally destroy everything because is still dreaming and our lives are simple a dream by some super God? I haven't read much Lovecraft but I would love to hear more
Hermaeus is very likely the most powerful of the Daedric princes 1. He knows everything, literally 2. He had a whole dlc dedicated to him basically 3. You need to do every other daedric quest to get to his
The thing about reaching Kim meaning joining the godhead that “thinks” up the universe and therefore giving the power to bend these events as they are thoughts is shockingly similar to what people call enlightenment in our world and certain psychedelic states
I have met a few dedra and so far he is my favorite he is not evil or good and he gives you what he says he will does not trick you or lie or even talk shit about you like some ant so I serve him.
I wish they would have done more with Vahlok, having him be not so vanilla. Maybe a dragon priest that helps you to defeat Miraak. Maybe gives you something? Dunno..... just a thought.
I love Hermaeus Mora so much he is my favorite Daedric prince. When I first played Skyrim Dragonborn dlc I was so happy to see that Mora was an main actor in the quest😁 And dont get me starter on Apocrypha. It is just a stunning place to see and move in.
I was just listening to this in the background while eating breakfast, but as soon as you mentioned the Wheel the video had my undivided attention. Amaranth and all affiliated topics are my favorite part of TES lore.
I dont think Mora will keep the dragonborn captive. He made that mistake with miraak. Also, that whole quest implies that dragonborns are so powerful, a deadric prince inside their own realm can't stop defeat them without help.
One thing I always wonder: what did the Skaal know that Hermaeus didn’t? He killed their shaman for some ancient knowledge but I can’t figure out what that would be?
McKenzie Hosey it could be entirely possible that more already knew what they knew. He just didn’t know that they knew it. Mora has a curiosity that cannot be satisfied. An when the skaal hid the knowledge it sealed their fate.
Its interesting how as we grow older our decisions and reasoning grow and change in our fallout and elder scrolls characters too. When i was like 13 and skyrim first came out i always defied hermeus mora and killed parthuurnax but as an adult i understand the nuance behind larthuurnax and spare him and i basically suck up to mora because i realize thaf standing up to him is futile. If he chooses you thats your lot in life as far as i can tell. The only hope we can have is that dragon born is so powerful after skyrims events that he gets to choose his afterlife or can somehow defeat hormeus mora. In my play throughs nowadays im always very respectful to the gods smd deadric princes because i see no point in really doing other wise. The fact they are even speaking to you and choosing not to striks you down with thr snap of their fingers tells me they respect you in some way.
Herma Mora knows the gate. Herma Mora is the gate. Herma Mora is the key and the guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Herma Mora
Love your videos. I've been searching for your channel a video about the mighty Potema and didn't found, perhaps I missed it, dunno. It would be good to do one if there isn't already, it's one of the best histories I've read in Skyrim and also one of the best quests in the game. Sorry for the bad english. A friendly hug to you from a brazilian fan. PS: She remembers me of Cersei Lannister, dunno... too much coincidences.
I have an idea: Mora knows everything that is yet to happen, but when is has happened, he forgets it. That's why he's so focused on collecting knowledge, and that would maybe explain why he didn't knew the secrets of the Skaals
Bizzy MB I once rollplayed that my character is the demiprince of knowledge, that created one amusing play through. Would like to see what fudgemuppet would create out of a similar concept.
@@gamefan1446 You could roleplay as such a character and allow him to pretty much know everything that you, the player, already know about the entirety of the game, since he'd be a demi-god of knowledge, so pretty much a role-playing session in which meta-gaming is allowed
The wheel is definitely a nod to buddhism or hinduism (I don’t remember which) where Dharma wheel I think represents everything in creation. Then the Godhead thing probably is a reference to Lovecraft. I think Azathoth dreams the Lovecraft universe.
You know, with the idea of appearing as Eyes and Tentacles, Hermaeus Mora has a sparking resemblance to how The Elder God (Tony Jay) appears in The Legacy of Kain Series (Soul Reaver 1, Soul Reaver 2, and LoK: Defiance.) Considered to be older than time itself and remains forever omnipotent to hidden truths. The "Wheel" of Fate, the purifying rhythm of which the universe is born and thrives. Coincidence?
You didn't mention the Nerevarine once despite it being one of the most powerful beings in Elderscrolls. The Nerevarine can reverse time, stop time and even replenish it's lifeforce and magics endlessly. The Nerevarine splits timelines and chooses the more favorable outcomes. Vivec was strong but he only had awareness of the Nerevarine's cosmic abilities.
Hermaeus Mora has actually grown on me as I've played Skyrim. He's actually one of my three favorite Princes along with Hircine and Malacath. Why do I like Hermaeus Mora? BECAUSE HE'S SO FUCKING WEIRD!! Like from his realm to how he manifests, to how he interacts with his followers/legendary Heroes. Hell even his voice, especially when he's angry it makes these 'blargh' sounds... Like, Holy shit... But I love it!
To all Lovecraftians let us recall that Yog-Sothoth co-rules the universe alongside Azethoth: The Deamon Sultan, The Nucleus at the Center of All Existance. Perhaps the "Godhead" is a reference to Azethoth, after all the continued existance of the universe hinges on Azethoth remaining asleep and unaware of the existance created as His dream, I mean think about it: In order to preserve all existance Elder Godlings play music upon sweet woodwind and harps in order to keep Him lulled asleep. When you think about it Yog-Sothoth is rather presiding over everything in all matters of space and time in the multiverses while The Creator is left asleep as a safeguard to ensure that which exists does thus.
After reading a lot of Lovecraft and finally getting a somewhat decent grasp on his universe I couldn't see Yog-Sothoths as anything more than a being of many titles granted supreme status by the act of being awake. He can't even interact in the physical universe without Nyarlathotep under most circumstances. I always saw him more as the avatar of Azethoth. The false king of a dream kingdom that's only possible because the first thing that was dreamed into existence were sleep inducing flute playing demi-gods. I know it's an outrageous oversimplification on my part, but I could never wrap my head around how Yog-Sothoth managed to be given top billing beside his father.
I always loved that Dragon-Brakes make game saving, loading, and multiple play throughs all in game cannon; CHIM also "Technically" makes all mods or console commands cannon as well because of how powerful CHIM is in the games lore. lucid dreamer dreams up new spells in the universe, or gives all mudcrabs a top hat, but never thinks to make themselves a god. Also I believe the lore behind the skeleton key is that it is CHIM in physical form, that's what they meant when they say it open more than physical locks, like CHIM it depends on what you realize it can be used for.
I always wondered if the guys writing that stuff for the games did that on purpose or if its just a convenient coincidence that it worked out that way. or the concept of the GODHEAD and the universe being a dream and its interaction with CHIM is like how everyone playing/modding the game and the developers making/playing it all share a common narrative that is built (skyrim/oblivion/ect) that everyone experiences in their own way, like how one dreamer won't have the exactly the same dream as another person would, (but they both watched the same movie/read the same book) one persons dragon born is a high elf, another person chose a nord or breton and all the choices they make on quests are like everyone having the same dream but its a little bit different for each person. which is why i wonder why they chose to represent the universe of the elder scrolls as a dream in the mind of some force known only as the GODHEAD. it just all fits together in a nice weird convenient package with no real lose threads that can't be explained with "well CHIM or a Dragon break did it I guess"
WarWolf WolfKing Sanguine is best. Most pleasurable and most dangerous. Herman Munster knows secrets, what a nosey bitch. Sounds like the Government douche. I want hookers and blackjack.
I may not have agreed with his thought process, but I absolutely love lovcraftian lore and the likes, so it only makes sense that herma Mora is one of my fav princes!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Mephala is described as being Hemaeus Mora's sibling? Is that entirely metaphorical, or was Mephala also created separately from the other daedra?
Kirkbride's writings(some of them at least) can be accepted or rejected as canon so it is possible that Hermaeus mora wasn't just scrapped ideas. Mora and Mephala are considered siblings due to their spheres being connected and they are probably allies.
Hermaeus is not the only one with extensive knowledge, my Lord and Master's predecessor has a library that has knowledge of the past, present and future.
The Daedra were there when Nirn was being created, they just didn't help with it's creation 'cause they wanted to keep the power they had at the time, something like that
Not a literal sibling. The Aedra gave their power at the behest of Lorkhan to create mundus. The physical manifestations of it are called 'the earthbones', but things like time were given from akatosh in its creation, etc. In time they were reduced to mortal beings or less, having given up everything that they were into this process. Magnus, and his Magna'Ge essentially noticed in time that their power was waning, said "fuck this I'm out" and left by punching holes through aetherius as they fucked off. Magnus left the biggest hole - the sun - and his magna'ge left smaller holes - the stars. The Daedra refused to do so, hoarding their power, and were cast out for essentially being selfish. But in the end, the joke was on the Aedra. So Mora being Mephala's sibling is metaphorical- he did not give up his power or anything, same as Mephala and is a prince like the rest, but also because Mora is the prince of hidden and forbidden knowledge, and Mephala is the prince of conspiracy and secrets, which is at its core, a type of hidden or forbidden knowledge.
Hey Drew, I've been loving your series about the princes and you've sparked my interest in learning everything there is to learn about them I wonder why there is this one Daedroth that is just allowed to use the very 'bin for all ideas initially used for the creation of tamriel' and to know everything, meanwhile the Daedric Princes get all buttsore about Jyggalag having that type of knowledge just by observing it all. Hermaeus Mora seems to know far more than Jyggalag ever could, yet it's good ol' Jyggi who needs to be cursed so he does not become to powerful.. And are the rest of the princes (including the Aedra and even their creator) cool with Hermaeus Mora having all that knowledge?

im pretty sure the original portrayal was a reference to the Shoggoth in Lovecraftian lore

I suppose you would be less inclined to follow them if they were signed "Tentacled horror from the depths of hell."

Hermaeus still dont have as many eyes as the back of my mother head
My daughters would swear by this, too. :D

skyrimdragon ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
With mods, you can!
Aaand that is where it went, twice in the Dragonborne DLC + if you get your hands on the sword of hentai it has no end.
I love how surprisingly chill Hermaeus is when you enter Apocrytha for the first time if you haven't done his specific Skyrim quest beforehand; even going so far as to point out that his realm is dangerous and you're probably making a mistake toddling in unprepared.
Drew: Daedric Princes cant effect mondas and the mortal
Sheagorath: Pelagius hold my mead and cheese
I love your channel man, lore and therioes is the best part of skyrim, and you make it very easy to learn it all. Thanks for the video, please keep it up.
"Come closer...
Bask in my presence..."
Travis Walls so you refuse mora flipping him off and then you can never leave apocrypha
OXOTNHK aka D3ath Patr0l bullshit. I have his book, I can get out. Fuck that asshole.
Hermaeus Mora so far is my total Favorite of all Deadric Princes! I adore him, beyond any reasoning.

My shelf full of HERMAEUS MORA!
That's so funny it made me lol.
I like to think of Hermaeus Mora as being the closest thing to a true neutral character in Skyrim, which makes sense as he is essentially fate.
so hermaeus mora knows when tes 6 is gonna release
right after half life 3
Brb going to apocrypha and asking.
He’s hiding chess 2 in there somewhere…
That’s the secret the Skaal were hiding
200 of the 500+ hours ive spent playing this game were from listening to this guy talk
Wait every fudgemuppet video on lore is in Apocrypha that's deep.meta
There is information how to create computers and internet in the realms of oblivion. They never have to leave Mora alone :D
kiara sanders your pretty dumb.
Yun Kurayami your pretty dickish
Jax Morris meh probably they need to calm down
Mora isn't evil, just neutral.
No daedra or aedra or evil
They are the forced of nature of their spear. And nature doesn’t have morality
does he know how to defeat the reapers
Ah, yes "reapers."
He knows who built the reapers, how to beat the reapers, how to control the reapers, how to build more reapers and so much more.
1973Washu that wasnt that point of the comment
He created Leviathan. Leviathan created Catalyst. Catalyst crated Reapers.
The thirst for knowledge is man's greatest but most dangerous temptation
Technically yes, (to your last question) and also, Herma is essentially destiny incarnate.
Also, spoiler: according to the lore, Akatosh grants humans the dragonblood in pity, which is what Herma does.
So there is that also...
Hermaeus Mora knows when The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released.
Imagine if someone was able to build a city inside Hermaeus Mora's realm? A city made of books and infinity knowledge
It looks like an ikea
I haven't read much Lovecraft but I would love to hear more
"Hermeaus Mora is the Guardian of the Gate. Hermeaus Mora Is the Gate. Past, present, and future, all are one in Hermeaus Mora..."
"If you're hearing this then I escaped Apocrapha..." This means that if we dont hear it, he didnt escape...Great job guys! We saved him!
I already knew the basics like the beginning. Hes my favorite daedric god. Super cool and also not mega ultra evil.
I've always thought the "dreamer becoming lucid" was an in-game explanation for mods: "Shaping the world as they see fit"
Hermaeus is very likely the most powerful of the Daedric princes
1. He knows everything, literally
2. He had a whole dlc dedicated to him basically
3. You need to do every other daedric quest to get to his
Honestly I could fall asleep listening to Mora man, he just has such a relaxing voice
Hermaeus mora can be compared to the allfather or odin who is someone who hoards knowledge above anything else.
Apocrypha: limitless paper in a paperless realm.
The thing about reaching Kim
meaning joining the godhead that “thinks” up the universe and therefore giving the power to bend these events as they are thoughts is shockingly similar to what people call enlightenment in our world and certain psychedelic states

I have met a few dedra and so far he is my favorite he is not evil or good and he gives you what he says he will does not trick you or lie or even talk shit about you like some ant so I serve him.
He's the only daedric prince who scares me but not in ways you may think.
I wish they would have done more with Vahlok, having him be not so vanilla. Maybe a dragon priest that helps you to defeat Miraak. Maybe gives you something? Dunno..... just a thought.
Even after over 10 years of playing elder scrolls games, I'm still learning about it. Astonishing.
I love Hermaeus Mora so much he is my favorite Daedric prince. When I first played Skyrim Dragonborn dlc I was so happy to see that Mora was an main actor in the quest😁
And dont get me starter on Apocrypha. It is just a stunning place to see and move in.
His voice is so epic!
I was just listening to this in the background while eating breakfast, but as soon as you mentioned the Wheel the video had my undivided attention.
Amaranth and all affiliated topics are my favorite part of TES lore.
When I first met him in the game, I actually shouted "OH MY GOSH IT'S AZATHOTH!"
I like to think Skyrim took on some lore from Lovecraft :)
I think it is what the allmaker is
I mean if I was a god in the world’s largest pantheon I would want to know where the allmaker came from
Its interesting how as we grow older our decisions and reasoning grow and change in our fallout and elder scrolls characters too.
Is that a lovecraft reference?

Love your videos. I've been searching for your channel a video about the mighty Potema and didn't found, perhaps I missed it, dunno. It would be good to do one if there isn't already, it's one of the best histories I've read in Skyrim and also one of the best quests in the game.

He is the gate, and the key to the gate, and the way through the gate.
Oh sorry, that's Yog-Sothoth. I get those two confused sometimes.
I have an idea: Mora knows everything that is yet to happen, but when is has happened, he forgets it.
That's why he's so focused on collecting knowledge, and that would maybe explain why he didn't knew the secrets of the Skaals
(Insert build suggestion)

Bizzy MB I once rollplayed that my character is the demiprince of knowledge, that created one amusing play through. Would like to see what fudgemuppet would create out of a similar concept.
That’s why his realm is DLC
@@gamefan1446 You could roleplay as such a character and allow him to pretty much know everything that you, the player, already know about the entirety of the game, since he'd be a demi-god of knowledge, so pretty much a role-playing session in which meta-gaming is allowed
You know what's better than a new Lamborghini
KNOWLEDGE!!!!
The wheel is definitely a nod to buddhism or hinduism (I don’t remember which) where Dharma wheel I think represents everything in creation.
Then the Godhead thing probably is a reference to Lovecraft. I think Azathoth dreams the Lovecraft universe.
Just wondering who would build a city in blackreach the empire or the stormcloaks

To my mind one of the most interesting characters in the lore
How good would a Hermaus Mora ASMR be?
This might be my favorite fudgemuppet video.
"He appears before people as a mass of eyes and tentacles"
I've seen enough hentai to know where this is going
Chim is console commands? Lol, that actually makes sense
I always wondered if the guys writing that stuff for the games did that on purpose or if its just a convenient coincidence that it worked out that way.
or the concept of the GODHEAD and the universe being a dream and its interaction with CHIM is like how everyone playing/modding the game and the developers making/playing it all share a common narrative that is built (skyrim/oblivion/ect) that everyone experiences in their own way, like how one dreamer won't have the exactly the same dream as another person would, (but they both watched the same movie/read the same book)
one persons dragon born is a high elf, another person chose a nord or breton and all the choices they make on quests are like everyone having the same dream but its a little bit different for each person. which is why i wonder why they chose to represent the universe of the elder scrolls as a dream in the mind of some force known only as the GODHEAD. it just all fits together in a nice weird convenient package with no real lose threads that can't be explained with "well CHIM or a Dragon break did it I guess"
*Incomprehensible eldritch blushing*

Yes
I may not have agreed with his thought process, but I absolutely love lovcraftian lore and the likes, so it only makes sense that herma Mora is one of my fav princes!
I love your videos sm thank youuuu
I correct you, you are wrong.
Such awesome lore. So much so I'm making a build inspired from Hermaeus Mora's lore: The Seeker of Knowledge.
Clearly he doesn't know everything. Ever heard of the Dewey decimal system mora?
Did anyone else see that lurked behaving like a giant at the end of the video?

Thanks alot
Just a Lovecraft reference
Also a Berserk reference.
Berserk and Herma Mora is a reference to Lovecraft
Hey Drew, I've been loving your series about the princes and you've sparked my interest in learning everything there is to learn about them
I wonder why there is this one Daedroth that is just allowed to use the very 'bin for all ideas initially used for the creation of tamriel' and to know everything, meanwhile the Daedric Princes get all buttsore about Jyggalag having that type of knowledge just by observing it all.
