I loved this video from you Phil . I remember all of what you talked about reinventing your bar to comply with Covid protocol . One must "roll with the punches" and you did just that. You are a survivor ! No need to feel selfish about how you feel of walking street , we all feel connected to something and if we didn't we would all be very lonely. Regards SG 👍🏼🍻🇦🇺
Hi Sam grouper. Thanks for that. It was an interesting time and I enjoyed making the video even though aesthetically the video looks pretty rubbish. It was good going back in time to those days.
During lockdown loved your show watching from aus. Long time pattaya visitor trapped in aus.you and Brian were great entertainment on boring days. Remember all the tossers saying walking at was no more.nuff said. Been back twice in 24 and place is crazy busy. Well done
I didn't visit Pattaya until Feb '07 and must say that for the next 18 months I believe it peaked in popularity. I recall New Plaza and Soi 7&8 being the most popular areas to hangout. Obviously there was the lure of Walking Street, along with its additional costs. Also this was pre android phone era and the girls were so much more attentive and respectful, which made it all the more enjoyable.
Thanks for the comic. I think the phone is a two-way thing because it’s made customers less attentive as well so I think it is positive and negative for both parties. Never like New Plaza too cheap for me but always love seven and eight.
You're right, you can talk! In my opinion, this was one of your very best vlogs. The lockdowns were a crazy time, however had they not happened then I don't think that I would be typing these words. During that time I started watching a lot of UA-cam. Pre-pandemic I had not heard of Pattaya, but something I watched on UA-cam suggested a Pattaya channel and I have never looked back. My first visit to Pattaya was in November 2023 and my 5th trip is booked for May 2025. I'm not a fan of Walking Street but I will try to pop in to Le Pub to say hello.
My first planned trip was canceled due to the pandemic. Your channel kept the dream alive, with the livestreams, and vids. Fast forward to Dec. '21, after my one day quarantine, I ventured into Le Pub for some food and to say hello. Within a couple hours, it was announced alcohol could be served again. The atmosphere completely changed in the bar. It was a party I won't soon forget. Cheers for sticking it out, Phil.
Looking back its so sad that so many businesses closed and so many people had a bad time but so pleased about all the businesses that stayed open, especially yours and the memories people made
I loved my time in pattaya during covid. Then eventually had to go back home just before the uk started the next round of lockdowns "to save Christmas" lol Needless to say, that period was a complete 180 to the pattaya experience!
Those were strange times indeed. Making a new friend often involved upping the online dating game a bit, though rewards in selection and value were plentiful. Many days had a surreal feel to them while walking around empty streets in a city that had always been so full of life. Seeing the struggles of both people and the small businesses in Pattaya was often a downer, but a Lazzada or mince & onion pie seemed to lighten my mood on many an occasion. Thanks for being there for all us hard-timers!
Good story! Glad you made it through! I was in the process of getting my wife's visa to the US and I ended up waiting over 2 years to reconnect with her. I'm sure we weren't alone, but it was difficult.
You are the Venerable Bede tracking Pattaya’s ups and down. Nice to see a chronicler recording the history of Waking Street. It’s a small physical area but it’s full of life long memories for literally millions of people. Unrelated question. Will you be showing the Six Nations at the bar this year?
As an expat that just moved to Pattaya in Jan 2020, I always tell people that Pattaya was great in 2020. A little sad and lots of uncertainty, but if you had money, it was a great time while it lasted. 2021, however, sucked as far as nightlife is concerned unless you knew where to go on the downlow.
That Was Very Interesting 2 Years Of Lock Down. My Work 👮♂️Was Extremely Busy & I Got To Fly All Around The World 🌍 Because Of It. UA-cam Channels Like Your Own Kept Me Entertained & Maintained My Love For Pattaya 👯♀️.
I remember that time in Pattaya. I was lucky enough to be able to domestically visit during those times. I know it was awful for many people, however, selfishly, and only speaking for myself, I thought it was a wonderful time to visit. I've never been so handsome--before then or afterwards. I think covid closures were the primary motivation for me starting a VIP channel membership. Being able to stop by for lunch and a coffee was great.
Thanks for your opinion. I was here in the 1990s, it was the same vibe. A lot more choices now. People liked it because it was cheaper but the whole world has changed.
Interesting story for someone (me) who wasnt there at the time. i came to pattaya first time february 2024 at 30 years of age. had a blast but unfortunately didnt visit your bar which i plan to next time, just for nostalgia, like seeing someones videos then meeting them in person, this what i did with Treb in buzzin bar in soi chaiyapoon
I got caught in Pattaya for a while. You were open. I believe that I was one of the first to have an espresso from your new machine. It wasn't very good but I was polite. I walk a LOT. It was great at the time. Not a lot of traffic. Not a lot of people. I could get the early morning tee times without much competition.
I feel like today is the Golden Age Of Pattaya. 17 years visiting and it's always getting better. It is what you make of it and you do have to be flexible as the town changes. But ya, I have never been happier in Pattaya than post COVID.
Best times 1997 to 2008. Pattaya was party town; currency rates were good; 'essential entertainment' was very reasonable; and bigger proportion of western visitors. Everyone was affected by COVID so get over it.
I was lucky enough to have my 1st visit in Feb '07 and subsequent visits every 6 months for 4-6 weeks. My longest jaunt was 3 months straight from March '10 - May '10, which included a week's break from Thailand via Angelese city, Philippines. The Philippines was also my 1st go-to in S.E. Asia in January '00. Which I kind of regretted as I enjoyed Thailand so much more.
Golden era!. My Thai friend lost her job in real estate and had massive problems staying afloat. And I was working in intensive care ward and wrapped more then a few friends for the mortuary. As well as pulling 60hr weeks trying to manage the dying got sick and left with a heart condition. Nothing golden about this phase. Sorry for the rant very bad memories
You weren’t in Pattaya. My experience is from here. There were hardly any deaths in 2020. Sorry you had a hard time of it but not everyone had the same experience.
@@LePubPattaya for me nothing changed except i could not go to the gym, i stayed and worked from home just as i did even before it. it didnt have an impact

I’ll pass on your comments to Bryan. Thanks Angus.
Emotional, reflective and heart warming...............Thank goodness there's a Thailand...............

5 trips that’s impressive

December 3, 2021 what a day
We had the place to ourselves, no overpaying tourists, empty beaches, great deals on hotels, food and drink. We will never see that again.
Without the tourists, 90% of Pattaya wouldn't exist.
I’m always happy to see tourists in town. They are my lifeblood and I try not to charge too much. Some places aren’t as kind. It was a great time.
Looking back its so sad that so many businesses closed and so many people had a bad time but so pleased about all the businesses that stayed open, especially yours and the memories people made
The here were too many bars before the pandemic. There are far more tourists now.
I loved my time in pattaya during covid. Then eventually had to go back home just before the uk started the next round of lockdowns "to save Christmas" lol
Needless to say, that period was a complete 180 to the pattaya experience!
I bet it was a huge contrast.

I hope the Visa application was successful

Thank you and yes, but no audio.

I agree but I never broke the law to get a drink.

Totally agree. The golden age
What year did the Diamond Hotel close ?
What came first soi soi diamond or the 💎 hotel ?
Diamond Hotel first. I think it closed before Covid. I can’t remember
In my opinion, the golden age of Pattaya was the 1990's.
Thanks for your opinion. I was here in the 1990s, it was the same vibe. A lot more choices now. People liked it because it was cheaper but the whole world has changed.
Hard to believe all this was almost 5 years ago. Time goes by so fast.
Certainly does.

Hope to catch you on your next trip.
The most intelligent virus in the history of mankind, choosing bars over coffee shops.
I did as I was told. I’m not a scientist.
I was truly the ONLY Goth in the VILLAGE.
You were. You cut off your hair.

Thanks Paddy. The coffee has improved. Take another go. 😄

Got to agree with this assessment. Now is always the best.
