I can honestly say I've never had an issue with any of my Oden's Eye palettes and I think I have them all. I love their mattes, and their shimmers are some of my favourites. They have an amazing shimmer formula that tends to be more twinkly than smooth metallic, so I think it is way more flattering on the lids. I will continue to buy from them!
I never understood why people thought the Odens eye form7la was so great. I ordered a few things a few years ago and was not impressed. The multichrome in the Giant Wolves palette went hard pan after one use. Never bought anything from them ever again.
I have always struggled with OD mattes....they are very pigmented but so powdery that they held away, get patchy and you can't layer more than a couple because they don't "attach" to the lid...
Yes!!! Giant Wolves was the first palette I bought... In my palette the multi chrome had hard pan on arrival and one other shimmer actually crumbled into pieces when I tried to use it. The dark shades were dusty dry and felt like chalk. I Fool I am I kept buying multiple other palettes and outside the Dragon palette not a single other one was without plain defect shadows
I never purchased giant Wolves but these comments make me grateful I didn’t. I think maybe I put the brand on a pedestal for a while because I had dabbled much in indie and I like their more “special” shades. But to me the matter are in-excusable and now I do notice hard pan on several shimmers or metallics too. Very frustrating!
my favourite from odens eye is also the merry christmas palette! i just rolled it into my project level up for level 5 because i love it sso much and knew i wouldn't get sick of it!
I agree that Odens Eye is rather hit or miss -- you might get good quality, or you might not. Also, sometimes the mattes are great, but the shimmers are subpar...and sometimes vice versa. I haven't purchased a palette from them since the holiday set last year (I wanted the older ones they reissued and got the two new ones -- not super excited about the reindeer or snowman ones tbh).
I only own 2 palettes from them- Stone & Rock and Flora Story I really like them a lot. I haven’t had any issues with them but then again I do simple eye looks and wouldn’t really be able to tell if there’s any problems 🙃
Hi Steph first I should say that I don’t own any Odens eye, but someone else I watch has complained bitterly about their quality control and different batches being hugely different in quality. This person also has a huge palette collection and has stopped buying their palettes due to real issues with quality control. I can’t comment as to the accuracy of their opinion obviously, but it does seem very similar to the issue you yourself have encountered. In the plethora of indie brands issues and videos like this (and other people’s) can really make a difference to their popularity and how many people buy their palettes. Perhaps they grew too fast to keep up with quality control? This can be a big issue for smaller brands when selling to a high volume of consumers. Just a thought. Best wishes x
That is a really good point Loraine! I think what I would love to see from them is fewer releases, but more quality control. They have absolutely nailed it in terms of themeing and color story for me, it really just comes down to nailing the formula and then I would collect them again 💜💜💜 I hope you have a great weekend!!
My shimmers in the Helaween palette were so poor I had to get a replacement. Still reach into my OE palettes for the mattes but tend to use other formulas for shimmers.
So happy to hear your thoughts. Been on the fence buying from the brand just because of hearing of the inconsistencies. Definitely now narrowed down some palette choices
I've never personally gotten into OE. I have Hela, and both collectiobs from Tina,Judy and Annette, but I fully admit i got them as collectors peices as i absolutely love the artwork. My most used is the Red Dragon, the colorstory in that one is phenomenal. Im so sorry Planet Spirit was destroyed ! My absolute favorite look ever from you was with that palette! It was like a Caribbean Sunset in July at restaurant by the sea.
Omg yes! I was so mad when I saw it scratched to smitherines by my daughter haha! Of course it would be the best quality that was ruined 😂😂 I do agree with you, OE has beautiful artwork and it does make purchasing enticing!
I bought Saga of Freya back when it first launched and was soooo disappointed. Mattes blended away to nothingness and honestly the shimmers weren't too spectacular either. Some of them hard panned after a couple of uses! I was done with the brand after that until they dropped planet spirit. I bought it because I love Betty Jean and I loved the color story. I expected to be disappointed in the formula but I wasn't. That formula is chef's kiss! So pigmented and blended like I dream. I get so many compliments when I wear it. I don't trust the brand though. Wouldn't ever buy anything outside of a collab palette with a favorite creator.
Nice ranking! I feel the same about odens eye now, im not interested in them recently. My favs palettes from the are hela, merry xmas, trick or treat and flora story
I've been feeling the same about Odens Eye. It started with Spring/Easter palettes foe Halloween and then more Spring/Easter-like palettes for Christmas. 😂😂 Mostly kidding, people can do what they like at any time of year. Just for my preferences it was really disappointing. And then the quality was different. I literally own every palette Odens Eye has done until the last two. I skipped Solmane and the me one. I feel like something has changed with them. It's a bummer. I've really gotten into Nomad. Could you do a Nomad ranking? ETA- Yessss! The Merry Christmas and Christmas Eve palettes are my all time favorites!
I only own two palettes from Nomad. I struggled with their formula a bit, but will say I’ve heard so many good things about their recent palettes it makes me very interested. I also love their themeing! So as I pick up more I would love to in the future ❤️❤️
I never would have guessed that you were wearing the old Alva palette in this video! It looks great. I love OE but also don’t have much spending money, so I have not gotten their most recent releases. The last OE palettes I bought were Stone & Rock and Jewels & Gem, and I think they’re lovely. But I heard a lot of negative reviews on the Spring/Earth Wood/Monster trio. Hela and the 2022 holidays releases are amazing.
Thank you! I’m not going to lie, in person I didn’t think I loved this look with the Alva, but then editing I was like… oh, okay I actually like that haha! I will say the spring/earth/monster collab was the last straw for me as there were so many issues with them. A color story would really have to speak to me to entice me to buy now. Or another Helaween collab 😂
@@itsjustStephslife maybe the camera and lighting caught it well, because it looks good from my screen! 😅 The collab trio is just too bad. To not get mattes right is a no-no, particularly when they have done mattes so well! I noticed hardpan in some of my OE palettes, which I forgive but don’t love.
Yep, same experience with the ones I have, Hela and the first Tina and Anette palettes (although the just regular shimmer in those can be kind of blah and thick) especially the mattes and the sort of squishy duochrome types shades. Same issues with Sea Talk mattes, especially that taupey brown! Makes me not want to order from them anymore but I do like a lot of things about the brand, the color stories, the squishly duochromes, the packaging, and the price point so maybe they'll make a comeback!
I agree there are some things I absolutely love about the brand, really wish that they would just work on their formulas! And yes that taupey brown was so patchy! I was like… really? A shade like this!?
Oh am I the only one disagreeing? 😅 I LOVE oden's eye, it's by far my favorite beside natasha denona. I just enjoy how sparkly the shades are and I didn't notice that the mattes have changed or going patchy on the eyes 🤔🤔 but I think that's also the fun of makeup that we all have different taste and are doing our makeup differently. I also love the look on you ☺️❤️ thinking picking up my alva as well soon
Thank you Nina! I am so glad you don’t experience the same issues. I will say I do love odens eye for their sparkly shades! They are so pretty! Wish I didn’t struggle so much either the mattes❤️
Oden’s Eye was once my top Indie eyeshadow formula but I think they have dropped to second or third. I didn’t get the Helaween palettes and talked myself out of the most recent launch since I tend not to like larger palettes. Favorites would be right along with yours: Christmas (OG) palettes, Hela but then I also really love the Stone and Rock. Flora Story is still a huge favorite for the color story and shimmers but I agree some of the mattes were a little more difficult to work with. Still workable enough for me to keep it. I love this ranking and hearing your honest thoughts. 🥰
Thank you so much! And I totally agree! Odens Eye was my top indie formula, and if they were to improve their mattes again they could be very high again because I love their themeing, etc. ❤️
I own 5 and for me its HELA, trick or treat, little ghost, red dragon then giant wolves. Red dragon is mostly still good except one shade but the giant wolves has declined in quality and I think I can dupe it now. I want the Christmas Eve now but didn't before so if it comes back again I will get it but been gun shy to get things from them lately. I trust Angie because her love of mattes is known so she would push for good quality but even still if they fixed them they have such potential.
My giant Wolves was bad on arrival...only palette I ever put in the actual trash. It's quality issues they have had from day one. Some people get crap palettes w clear deficiencies like shimmers where the pigments have separated from the glitters or have a glue like consistency or disintegrate into actual crumbles all of which I have had w brand new palettes, others don't. Buying Odens Eye is a lottery
I agree. The themeing and artwork is always 10/10 and haven’t had issues with the Hela palettes at all. Just so disappointing that you never know what you’re going to get ❤️
You are so right and it shouldn’t be that way when you’re spending your hard earned money on something you’re excited about. I never got the Giant Wolves palettes but that seems to be the one that had been everyone’s #1 worst- so I’m glad I didn’t get it! ❤️
Same!!! And because they blend away you can't layer them either.....I never understood the praise to their matters. I get the shimmers are spectacular (in terms of looks....weird formula), but the mattes....🤷🏻♀️
isn't it fun when your kids destroy makeup and other things of yours. several years ago I had a Too Faced Peach lip scrub and lip mask that I absolutely loved and it was discontinued so you couldn't buy them anymore, and my daughter ate them

I think the hype finally died down with OE and I’m happy about that! Always love a ranking. Thanks Steph!
My fave shade probably ever is the shade Gorgeous in the Christmas Eve palette. Such a beautiful multichrome!
Same!! It is so amazingly pretty, whenever I wear it I love my look.

Love the look you're wearing! So beautiful. I'm going to have to dig that palette out.🥰 x

I’m glad you haven’t had any issues Tammy! Maybe that should be the way I use the going forward- less mattes. I do love their sparkle ❤️

Yay! Happy that this could help!! ❤️❤️
In my Mighty palette, the red is weak. But my purple works really well.
Okay I agree with you on the red in that palette! Barely shows up as anything. ❤️😭
Thanks so much for the detailed reviews.
❤️❤️❤️
