- Pen Llyn, a poem by RS Thomas who lived and worked on the Llyn peninsula.
The observant viewer may spot that this failed to upload on Thursday for Poetry Thursday but who cares?
The thumbnail is Porthdinllaen on the north coast of the peninsula. Thomas lived on the other side but really only a few miles away
So very cooleeo to read a poem about the very area ones visiting in Wales. Love it! 😁
That was amazing. The spray of the sea likened to a couple's bickering, and "the dumb past that is close to me as my shadow," and "like one coming on the truth asleep and fearing to disturb it." Wow. Thank you for sharing it (and a little slice of Wales) with us.
I am glad the trip encouraged me to read a number of his poems. Not a poet I knew well before that but I really took to his work.
He’s a favourite. Thank you. 💕
Visiting Aberdaron where he was the priest for years reminded me to read him again. I like his sparse and unsentimental style.
Ooh, love a Welsh poetry entry--and the bit of background, extremely helpful for context!
He is an interesting poet and not so much spoken of these days.
In my opinion, the greatest poet in English of the latter half of the twentieth century. And definitely a misanthrope, who, like so many poets, put the best of himself into his poems. Thank you for the reading!
He doesn't seem to get the attention and admiration he deserves, does he?
All his poetry is spiritual. A very great poet and modern Christian mystic. One must view his poetry through this lens otherwise much of the depth of his work is missed.
@@gunner678 I could feel that. A great poet as you say.
@@scallydandlingaboutthebook2711 thank you for the reply. I am not suggesting for a moment that one must emulate his beliefs mind you, but never the less, it is the very basis of his work; the well spring as it were. Funnily enough my friend was vicar in RS's parish until he died a couple of years ago. I too was a vicar in Pembrokeshire 15 years ago. We in Wales are very blessed with literary folk 😊. All the very best with your channel.
@@gunner678 what a beautiful place to live and work.
