What a great video Kris. Actually the best one I have seen id3 vs tm3 - I would go for the id3 comfort and low noise and front display etc, but I fully understand that people who value other things take the tm3

You made a very good comparison. In the end, the individual has to decide whether he or she wants a more sporty or more comfortable ride. Then the choice is obvious.
I don’t think people have yet realized how good a price VW ID.3 Pro has.

@@KrisRifa Come on dude..I got myself an ID3 when it launched and sold it a year later now I own the model 3 performance, that is suppose to have stiffer suspension and ride quality is amazing, not to mention EVERYTHING else model 3 can offer that ID3 doesn't. How on earth can you have those two cars in the same conversation? Its night and day difference.

    Great video Kris,
My personal reasons why I bought an ID3 after testing both a model 3 and and ID3:
    - Price difference, In Spain the cheapest Model 3 (standard range +) is €49.000 non-negociable where the ID3 in the trim level I wanted was €38.000 after mild negotiation
    - I'm 1,90m tall and not the youngest person anymore I found it difficult to get in and especially out of the model 3, I felt my hair touching the roof liner even with the seat on the lowest position. With the ID3 I had none of these problems and it felt much roomier inside too
    - Being a smaller car the ID3 is much more practical in the small streets and parking garages in my town, also the hatchback format is much more versatile. yet the ID3 drives like a large car on the highway
    - Although the screen in the model 3 is much bigger I could not read the screen while driving with my subscription (sun)glasses due the small font and low contrast of the colors in the UI. The ID3 uses much bigger letters and has high contrast between text and background.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  3 роки тому +3

Thanks for your comment Robin, and this is exactly why the ID.3 is the better car for a lot of people. Because for many people the longer range and better performance can't make up for the lack of comfort, space and practicality. We all have different needs and wants, and glad you found a vehicle that fits you well :)

9:42 No mention of the VW Travel Assist in the top trims that automatically reestablishes after lane change and the capacitive steering wheel that needs no steering input to detect the driver as a difference/advantage to autopilot together with reliable and predictive speed limit detection.

ID.3 for me due to the waaay quieter coupe´, and higher seating position.

Thanks Kris for the objective comparison. A few topics which I think have to be highlighted. The Travel assist of the ID3 is as good in my opinion as the Tesla Model 3 basic Auto Pilot. In some area it is even better such as speed limit entering a town ( it reduces the speed to achieve the limit at the town entry panel)

When you look at the intended market vs. the typical Tesla driver you see a bid difference. The VW is built to appeal to someone looking for a small SUV. All Teslas ate styled and equipped to appeal to wannabe hipsters and EV fans, primarily young men, who see performance numbers as some kind of validation of their manhood. In short: The ID.3 is and looks like a practical car. The Model 3 shouts "Look at Me!"
Volks wagon is doing very well with this approach. Selling cars for those who aren't EV drivers or even really considering driving electric is the way to sell millions and millions of EVs.

I own a model 3 and truly only enjoy it’s performance.. still don’t like looking off to the right just to see how fast I am going, 3+ years later and I still have not gotten used to it .. I think it’s because it feels distracting when I have to always look to the right for everything.. plus the fact the screen goes out many times during the year and when it goes blank as you driving it’s no joke very scary.. ride quality is very hard in my model 3 i feel it needs better suspension setup ..

Great video an rational comparison Kris! The best one available comparing M3 and the ID3 although they are not in the same category. The ID3 is great family car and every day driver and more economic. The M3 is much sportier, noisier and more expensive - not really a sports car but you can drive it like it. That's how I would decide - price, what is my profile (family) it's the ID3, if I don't need extra space and love to drive more sporty - it's the M3. thank you

I appreciate a lot your videos, I follow you and Bjorn. I bought a M3 LR AWD last December, I'm a sales agent travelling across the north part of Italy, around 40/45.000 Km every year.
In my country the public chargers are not yet widely available, especially the fast ones.
For people like me (some days I travel for 600 Km) the Supercharger is the reason why I can use a full electric car instead of a petrol one. Before choosing this Tesla I tested also the I.D. 3 also because my previous car was a Golf TGI (natural Gas). My Model 3 is on another planet compared to my last Golf and, since I love sports car, it gives me impressive performance (much quicker than my Golf GTI Edition 30 I had in 2007) and at same time a high level of confort (more than I was expecting since I was used to a slow, comfy Golf).
I don't agree at all with you Kris regarding the cabin noise. In EV cars tires are really important so for this Winter I bought a set of "Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3" because they are very quiet ( noise level B), so I measured the noise level in my car at 130 Kn/h and the result is 69 dB, the same as my previous VW.
Bjorn Nyland makes this kind of test and he measured on a M3 Performance 68,9 dB at 120 Km/h and 70,1 dB with a I.D. 1st.
Also the interior of the Model 3 is a complete different league and a Golf is better than I.D. 3.
In conclusion I'm really happy that VW is really putting as much effort possible (and investing a lot of money), competition will bring better cars for the users and finally the Electric Cars are no longer considered the future but the present!

      Thanks! 😊
Yes, personally I prefer the ID.3 because even though the Tesla handles better, has nicer materials, a better infotainment system, longer range and faster charging. That is not enough to make up for the terrible ride and extremely noisy cabin. I want I car first to have good ride, then a quiet cabin before anything (when we are talking about normal cars and not supercars). The fact that the ID.3 is a lot cheaper and feels more solid is a huge bonus, and makes it hard for me not to choose it when it comes to these two.
I do not own a Tesla, and have never owned one either. I own an Audi E-Tron 55 😊The ID.3 had fast enough charging, and will hit it's peak speed more reliable than the M3. And the 58kWh version with 420km is enough for most people, and I have never had issues with that range in my E-Tron. For me and a lot of people, ultimate range is not the end all or be all.

My view on the Tesla M3.
If you drive average daily mileage and don't need the public Supercharger network why would you get one?🤔 It's a washing machine on wheels !!!
There are much better options in the same price range, which offer high quality interiors, driver displays and panels with consistent gaps that align correctly.

Practicallity? ID.3 has no towing hook and is not able to carry anything on the roof. And versions with the big battery are loosing the solarroof and the fifth seat because of weight problem, not the size of the battery. And no SC network. And no Service required at Tesla. At all. And not to mention the whole infotainment system. What about the quality of the sound system?

Hatchback; Buying a new dishwasher on a Saturday afternoon? no problem fold the back seats open the back and throw it in.
The last time I used a towing hook was back in the 1980's, but sure if YOUneed to tow things the ID3 is not for you. plain and simple.

The ID3 is smaller then the Tesla inside. Im 6 foot 3, and I cant sit in the backseat, my head hits the ceiling in the ID3. I cant sit in the front passenger seat either, because I hit the ceiling as well. Unless i have the electric seats I can lower the seat. The Model 3 is my daily driver, and I can sit in the front and the back very well!
