This was the single greatest time of my life working so close to the master. He was always gracious to me and gave me such amazing little tips I keep to this day in my technique. Teresa was like a mother to me. The whole cast, the whole experience was like NO other and will forever remain the highlight of my life and being able to be close sideline to his mastery was intoxicating.
Bravissimo, Elijah! Bravissimo! In my opinion, your Peppe/Arlecchino is the best I've ever seen, and the only one I ever want to hear. Your performance absolutely stands its ground and earns its place along side the performances of the other immense talents. As I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, in my opinion, Leoncavallo, Zeffirelli, Levine, Pavarroti, Stratas, and Pons all come together as though they were stars aligning in the heavens for this production. And YOUR performance was as equally impressive, and as equally important to the overall success of this remarkable, once-in-a-century production. This performance is one of the jewels of my DVD opera collection, and one of the performances I recommend to others who are either new to opera, or who have never seen I Pagliacci before. Keep up the excellent work! OUTSTANDING!
Dramatically, this has to be the best rendition of this scene I’ve ever witnessed. It makes me cry every time I watch and listen. Absolutely remarkable performers.
I keep coming back to this wonderful performance - so incredibly moving and tragic, and played so brilliantly by Pavarotti and the cast, I always end up in tears watching this.
I believe Pavarotti in Italian roles more than any others, because I know he knows what he’s saying (obviously because he’s Italian), but it helps with becoming emotionally attached to characters like Canio. Bravo!!
Thank you for sharing this one , that was an incredible performance by Pavarotti indeed , the world will never see a natural artist in his genre ever again he was one of a kind #Much #Respect
I wish I knew what they are singing the story looks to be interesting from the little I could translate, but the singing is down right amazing, and music is absolutely top notch
This staging and casting can never be topped! Teresa Stratas is superb as Nedda, and you have to give her character props for getting back on point at 5:30 after feeling Pagliacci's close-up rage. I like the way the Director has her take off her wig, the clearest clue to the stunned crowd that something very different is happening on stage other than the standard genre farce. And what can be said about Pavarotti? He is brilliant in both acting and singing here, perhaps one of his best roles at combining these two talents. It is intriguing to learn that Tonio, not Canio, was the original person meant to deliver the famous last line. And according to my opera expert brother, the composer considered Canio's last killing to be himself in a fit of despondent suicide.
It makes sense that Tonio delivers the final line just as he introduced the drama (the prologue) as well taunting Canio and providing the knife. His revenge is accomplished.

@@SailaSobriquet Gracie mille! I am humbled by your comments truly. Forever grateful and blessed. Cheers
If "La Comedia è finita" doesn't send shivers down your spine, then nothing will.
I don't want my freedom, there's no reason for living with a broken heart
(Freddie Mercury, It's a hard life)
The Seventh Doctor quoted it in the final confrontation in "The Greatest Show in the Galaxy."
The version of placido domingo is more shiver 💀

Mio Padre….. un fiore così bello in un mondo andato a male.
I was very young when Pavarotti passed away. I wish I could have been able to see him perform in person.

I'm watching this at the office right now and a coworker was like, " who is screaming over there?" Lol

I absolutely love how he told the audience to be quiet with his gestures. A true clown. So perfect
He was so handsome & talented ❤
Te quiero Luciano ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Some philistine with no appreciation for the classics.

"He grabs a knife/And stabs the louse/Who stole his spouse/And then he stabs the lady and himself" -- Homer and Jethro, "Pal-Yat-Chee"
It makes sense that Tonio delivers the final line just as he introduced the drama (the prologue) as well taunting Canio and providing the knife. His revenge is accomplished.
God, this is so based.

she was the love of his life and she cheated on him , and he had no outlet for his anger :(
ahhaheee
He is not a great tenor voice but a great actor on stage
Your statement shows very poor understanding of opera or who Luciano Pavarotti was. I’m sure you can sing like him.
You are partially correct :p but only partially
I think both.
Both of them
Sorry, but this is not topp acting and singing. There is a super recording with Stratas-and Placido Domingo. That recordin is very much better.
Poca anima e passione...
?
MASTER!

Buff el final de Pagliacci , sobrecogedor
