Steve Rhodes was one of my favorites even to this day. Remarkable Young man with deception speed and glue like hands. He was so prominant in the OU vs Ohio State game in the winning drive.
zyxquark-In the 1981 season Georgia was the #1 team in Ap Poll going into the bowl games and that afternoon pretty much wrapped up the National Titie with a 17-10 win over Notre Dame. In those days bowl bids went out before the end of the season and if it had been like today(before the playoff) Florida St at #2 would have gotten the Sugar Bowl invite to play the Bulldogs for the National Title.
I could be wrong, but my memory of this is we could have kicked the extra point, tied, and without a loss remained number one and still won the national championship (this was the orange bowl; the last game of the bowl season on new year's night). Instead, switzer (the river boat gambler) went for two and won the game and the national championship. this is my all-time favorite ou memory. thanks, jc watts, wherever you are. when switzer ran off the field you could hear his balls clank.
Was OU #1 in 1980? I'm a Nebraska guy and I saw the unfortunate Keith Jackson catch in 1986- I thought that was a year OU was #1. Anyway, looking forward to a great rematch in the XII title game in December
Do you think we ( FSU ) would have won this game, would we have had a good chance for a National Championship, or at least a split one? Or was Georgia clearly the best team that year?
I love don Criqui's voice, one of the most underrated announcers.
J.C. went on to have a great career in the CFL...class guy, always speaks highly of his days in Canada.

Yeah I was used to hearing Criqui doing the Orange Bowl games when OU played. Thats when Bowls were assigned to cetain conferences
I totally agree. The last of the great, old-school voices still on a major network.
Watts had a great pro career in the CFL. I was a big fan.
The guy that scored the 2 points worked in a the lowes less then 3 mins from my house lol he was my brothers boss!!!
Bobby Bowden after the game: "Dadgum Okies".
Impressive Blast from the past...
I remember watching this one with the family, I love the pants Bobby is wearing

Bobby Bowden built up the Seminoles very quickly

J.C. Watts was a good QB in the CFL.
Sooner Magic!
I loved college football then. It was before NCAAF became the NFL's minor leagues.
OMG! FSU damned-near stopped OU with an INT on that drive.
Twice they dropped ints
the guy that caught the ball is my bros boss lol

"Jim Rockford?"
wow...you just don't see profiles like the one for Steve Rhodes anymore, huh? That's f-ing hilarious.
MVP Jarvis Coursey is my Cousin
This is the 1981 Orange Bowl, not the 1980 Orange Bowl.
this is the 1981 O-Bowl, not 1980.
This is why J.C. should have been elected in 2001. Leadership when the chips are down.
Jarvis Coursey is my cousin!!!!!!!

Another lose to Oklahoma for Bowden, he never beat Oklahoma and with retirement coming soon he never will good luck coach Fisher
Switzer > Bowden
