Back in the old days ( 1950s-1960s) they had their OWN original designs. Now they are just copying luxury brands and causing confusion especially for VALENTINO GARAVANI. The problem is not just the same name. The problem is Mario company are basically making border line counterfeits.

Mario Valentino actually have some really nice bags. Yes they are lower end than Garavani but they are made with some nice Italian leather. I would think they are higher end than coach and Michael kors.

I have one Mario Valentino black leather cross body bag and to be honest is one of my favorite and most used bags in my small collection. I have YSL, , Coach, LV bags but I appreciate bags from different brands, if I love the bag, I honestly don't mind what brand it is. Mario Valentino was first, and followed the footsteps of his father in the leather business. The newer Valentino(Garavani) is raising the price of his products in order to differentiate from Mario, what a reason! And the famous names all use their last name not first name such as Chanel (not Coco), same as Givenchy, Fendi, Gucci, etc., etc. So it only makes sense that when you say Valentino, it is Mario Valentino. Name one luxury item that goes by first name,,,,,,,,,,,none!

Exactly, Mario Valentino was first. My Aunts/Cousins was rocking Mario Valentino when I was a little girl. The Garavani bags look cheap to me. But, to each its own, I buy what I like.

Thanks for your video. I get the initial confusion but it’s also down to people doing research and not just grabbing it because they see a name. Obviously the garavani is luxury but the MV is not cheap by any means with bags costing several hundred. Having only bought VG and never purchased MV by accident I feel people really should do research prior to purchasing. When you see the bags in person it’s not hard at all...
Are MV bags really sold for hundreds? Here in Italy they’re very cheap, around 50/100 euros maximum. Btw technically Valentino Garavani “stole” the name because Mario Valentino was already there long before ! That’s why Garavani can’t do much about it

I was one of the many who thought it was just a "cheaper" branch of the brand! I examined the Mario bag and it's good quality, but now that I know the background, and the "rebranding" marketing techniques they are using (instead of using creativity in design)... It feels like I'm being duped, and I don't want the bag anymore😥
You’re definitely not being duped. Mario V existed before the other one back in 1952. Their bags are designed and made in Italy. Stellar quality bags.

Thank you for making this video! You explained everything so well. I bought a Valentino bag two years ago on a cruise ship boutique. They pushed the brand as the “real” Valentino and I thought I was buying a Valentino Garavani bag. After I bought the bag, I did my research and realized it was a Mario Valentino bag and returned it the next day. Before my experience I had no idea that there were two different brands. Definitely creates customer confusion!

I’ve been confused about the Mario Valentino brand because I had spotted a cute studded bag on Neiman Marcus last call and it was by Mario Valentino and it sort of looked Valentino inspired but now I know they’re definitely not the same.
Mario Valentino was established WAY before Valentino Garavani.
Why would Valentino Garavani even try to establish a brand with the same name as Mario, Mario was a well known designer in ingalu since the 1960’s.
Garavani is the one in the wrong here he knew from the jump and shouldn’t picked a different name.

People sell Mario Valentino on Poshmark and they even use Garavani's names. A bag had studs and the seller called it "Rockstud" and the interested buyer had no clue there's was a difference and was overjoyed that the NWT bag was $450. I was pissed and I made a comment on the listing saying Rockstud is NOT a Mario Valentino signature bag. The seller got nasty with me. She was trying to get over on the buyer. SO WRONG!
Respect for your content and opinion. If you think about it...they all copy("inspired by") from each other! Yes, high end luxury brands as well. IMO Valentino Garavani makes simple styled items in comparison to other mainstream high end luxury brands like Fendi and Gucci. At the end of the day Mario Valentino also sells good quality materials has from the beginning before high end luxury brand Valentino Garavani. To eaches own. Purchasing either you won't loose as far as buying good quality is a fact! And remember no item is worth high price. Humans make it valuable based on demand. The power of the consumer.

I’m going to give a brief history to those that didn’t grow up in the 80’s and 90’s. Mario Valentino was in Every fashion magazine and in New York, Paris actually world wide. If you look at campaigns of the 70’s through 90’s and celebrities EVERYONE had a Mario Valentino bag.
Valentino and Mario Valentino had no problem with this and signed an agreement(look it up). Valentino at the time wasn’t known for accessories only couture and ready to wear. I have both actually because the quality of a “Mario”(as they are actually called in elite circles) are great quality. Valentino is still known for couture, but we all have a sense of being elite so it’s Human nature to go for something as close to exclusive as possible.
I love your videos, but please give the correct history, because these houses survive on it(I am a fashion editor). Every designer is inspired by every other look and accessories. And “Valentino” started accessories after because it was loosing its high end customer to lower priced brands. They understood the psychology of the society that really doesn’t understand “ the world of luxury”. Luxury isn’t always a name and price😉🙂
Yes it’s confusing because the V belt comes off as VG belt and I see these and wondered who’s Mario? A son? Lol I didn’t know. I saw right away it’s like an outlet mk saffiano vs. Prada saffiano. I love mk and Prada. The brand is marking up the bag prices to have people pay thinking it’s a VG bag. Not good.

All designers copy each other. I saw a Mario in Marshall’s and I like it. I paid $350 and the quality is the same as comparable brands at that price point. I probably will never buy the “expensive” Valentino.
Man that’s crazy. I never looked into it and thought it was just a different branch like Georgio Armani and Emporio Armani. I just didn’t think it’d be legal. The V print on many items is even very similar. Not a lot of people know that here in the US. I ALMOST just bought some Valentino by Mario sneakers and am not going to after watching this. Your bag is real. Both are real. Just two different brands. In example Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren have bags ranging from hundreds to thousands. Nothing cheap about a $400 bag. You have different categories for luxury brands...affordable and high end. That's all! A great friend buying you great quality.

There was a "Valentino" bag at Marshalls for 99 dollars. I guess it was Mario Valentino. Customers purchased it though thinking it was THE Valentino.
Preach! I hate Mario Valentino. Their logo is so close to Garavani. So many influencers have no idea. On IG, I see people saying they got a great deal and it’s the wrong V logo. I never say anything because I feel like I’m raining on someone’s parade.
Mario valentino was first though and they make amazing bags and there isn't a horrible mark up. I have mario valentino bags and they're literally my favourite they're amazing quality and so pretty. My parents got me one for my birthday and I used it way past my next birthday as an everyday bag. The leather was perfectly intact and I only stopped using it when I got my next mario one which I use everyday

Not a confusion. It's the artist designer's name signature of their work. Everyone that's an artist designer sign their own design. There are many people with similar last names but their first name and designs are different.

I saw a Valentino handbag in a private Sale about three years ago and I was surprised to see “Valentino bag in less than 300.00 u$” it took me a couple of hours to find out it wasn’t the same thing. And Almost all the private sale was sold out. Probably most people felt for the trick of “Valentino” bag for less.
