As a teenage boy in a very religious conservative household, who has wanted to wear skirts for a very long time, but isn't allowed to get one or wear one, this tutorial is literally a lifesaver in helping me express myself in secret
I love this tutorial! just still a bit confused on how much fabric to ask for at the fabric store, I know it depends on our own personal size, but I’ve never bought fabric before and I’m nervous about buying too much or too little
as she said, she got her waist and hips’ measurements - as I do it, I divide the measurements by 2 (let’s say my waist is 60cm and my hips are 70cm so i get 30cm x2 and 35cm x2) then she drew like a trapezoid that’s rounded at the bottom so i get I also would do that - the top (the shorter side of the trapezoid) is the waist measurement (the 30cm) and the bottom is the hip measurement. tbh idk if you should make the bottom rounded or not, i personally would keep it straight. the sides are up to you and how short you want the waistband to be. and a little tip - draw a trapezoid that looks almost like a rectangle, that’s how most of the pleated skirt patterns look like:) hope i helped 🩷
Thank you! ☺️ I started with a rectangle length of 13in (I’m 5’2” however, so definitely would recommend adjusting based on your height! And keep in mind the final skirt length will be shorter once seam & hem allowance is accounted for), and then stitched down each pleat 4.5in :)
@@lindaqzhangThis is really helpful! Would you mind measuring the length of the skirt so I have some idea how much length is taken up by the seam and hem allowance?
Is it possible to do this without a sewing machine? Im learning how to sew rn and im trying to make a skirt for a 6 inch action figure so it’s a much smaller skirt than this one.
Love love love the design but I was hoping for a more in depth tutorial rather than the same video from TikTok in a wider video format…. Is there a pattern you used or created?
Tysm!! ☺️ unfortunately I haven’t digitized a pattern for this one yet… but hopefully you’re able to draft your own pattern using the steps in the video based on your specific measurements! If you have any questions pls lmk always happy to help where I can 💕
@@lindaqzhangwas your fabric stretchy? I found similar fabric with a slight stretch, wondering if I should still straight stitch my pleats. Also, did you put your waistband OVER the 4.5in block of the pleats?
@@sealairemine was not stretchy! To be safe I’d opt for a narrow zigzag or lightning stitch just to make sure your stitches won’t pop! And yes, waistband attached to lay directly over the pleats ☺️
With the two sections that you want to attach - pin together along the width of each piece right sides together, and sew down with a straight stitch! I also wanted to hide this seam as best I could, so before I started pinning down my pleats I just made sure that the seam would be hidden on the inside of a pleat - lmk if that makes sense! 😊

same man😭
@ so I actually ended up making it lol I bought one yard of fabric and it was wayyyy too much but I might make a matching top
Could you give an explanation as to how you did the waistband? I don’t understand how I’m supposed to draft a pattern for it.
I mean probably take that shape and x it by 3 like earlier in the video but I could be wrong I’m still trying to figure out myself .

AND I FORGOT - make two trapezoids because you need the front and the back of your waistband. then sew them together just like she did in the tutorial
This tutorial is amazing keep being a star 🫶🫶 ilysm
A pleated skirt is always special! Love from another sewing bro
hi could I do this with waist band instead of zipper
will the result be the same if I do the skirt longer?
Great video! What's the length of the skirt and how far down are the pleats stitched?

Could you please explain how you got the waist band i'm new to making clothes and this is a project for a friend I want it to be perfect
i love it

My fabric isn’t long enough either so how did you go about patching the extra sections to each other?
