What I like about this series (unless the rules change along the way) is A) the two doing the cooking have no idea what they're going to be making, they're getting the instructions from the other two, it's a change from the usual "you have x amount of time to come up with a dish" B) no time limit (probably for the best since they have no idea what they're making, if they had been able to do the research themselves over the week then yeah, a time limit would make sense)

During the worst of the pandemic, I joined a FB food group that did a similar thing. Each week there was a new letter of the alphabet, members chose a country and cooked up a dish from that country they researched. Photos and background would then be posted. It was a wholesome distraction, we all learned about different cuisines plus expanded our own repertoire! It was so much fun during a time that was such a struggle for a lot of us. Loving this new series, especially as I've been to Aruba a few times and have eaten Keshi Yena, specifically the seafood version!
Fun fact: curaçao (pronounced koo-rah-sow, sow as in the pig) is where we get the Orange liqueur Blue Curaçao. The oranges that grew on the island were far too bitter for consumption, but when turned into alcohol it becomes far less bitter
I was surprised that aruba(we live on aruba) was picked and you guys did "Keshi Yena" we had it on our wedding and looking at your dish it was mouthwatering .
This is a genius format! I love the glints in everyone's eyes every time someone does something brilliant. As a viewer, I also love that I learned something new about Aruba today and about cooking in general. Gonna try this for sure! This format ROCKS!

I love the format; the only thing I'd love to see, is at the end if the guys could bring out a dish prepared by the food team based off the actual recipe, to compare it against the one made in the video. Just to see how close they actually got beyond just a visual comparison.
Hi! Am from Curaçao, really cool to see food from the Antilles being featured on here:) Just a tip, the second C in Curacao is an S sound, not a K sound
There's a Czech film from the 40s, one of my favourite comedies, where a character very carefully pronounces it, trying to impress it on another character, so I have that drilled into me and also cringed a bit every time I heard their pronunciation, feeling a bit like "You should know that... oh, wait, you don't". 😅 (Am Czech, if that wasn't obvious.)
This idea is genius. I love that the first challenge is from a country we know so little about here in Europe. The dish looks delicious, I'd love to try it someday.
I imagined this being a weekly thing and when 1 is done, they add another from A and then when A runs out, they go to B and all the way to Z, until it runs out =)
And yes! Thank you for highlighting different cuisines. Like, REALLY different cuisines. You are the best. Love from this Brazilian Carioca living in USA
Wow, bloody awesome. I've been disillusioned by cookery programmes for years now but I found your channel six months ago and you never dissapoint. I laugh, gasp and shout at you all but most of all I look forward to every film you put together. Pure magic.
This format is brilliant! I love the idea of cooking dishes from countries youve never tried before and learning the history of the dish to figure out how it all comes together. I am definitely trying this cheese casserole dish at home
That was really fun, I love this new format. Quick question though, can we see a return of London's Best and/or Mystery Night Food Challenge? Those were some of my absolute favorites and I'd love to see what's out there post-lockdown.
This reminds me of Chris Morocco on the Bon Appetit channel doing his recreation of mystery dishes after tasting them but not seeing them. In those, he guesses how he would grade himself along the way and then learns about the actual dish at the end and gets his own score. A similar structure for the progress and final reveal would be fun here 😊
Easily one of the best videos, and concepts in a while. Curveball idea would be to do this pass it on style, with a few bullet point facts about the dish given out by janice at the start. Really love this and can't wait to see what happens with the Brunei dish next time.
I loved this format. I'd say it would be fun to hide what the dish is supposed to be from the audience until the reveal so we're guessing along with the guys.
I've been away from youtube a few months, but I must say, Barry is rocking this hairstyle. I really like this format and look forward to watching this playlist
That was great fun. Trying to work out a dish from the sparse description and the ingredients looks like quite the challenge. And yet Ben and Jamie managed to not only get a dish but also so close to what it was supposed to be! Very impressive. (do love the suggestion in the comments to also present a reference version of the dish)
I didn't think I would like the format too much, but found myself with a huge smile on my face at the end. Especially when Ebbers jumped up and down when he saw the picture also had parsley on it. Super keen for the next episodes now!!
Well done Ben and Jamie. Didn't even know what it was supposed to look like, knocked it completely all out of the ballpark! Also, love Jamie's reaction when he seen they made it correctly!
I really hope if they're going to continue doing international cuisine they take a little time to learn some key pronunciation of words that come up multiple times an episode, it's not difficult to find on UA-cam.
@@jrbtubestop "sow" is wrong, you're not inferring a long o vowel here, the last 2 letters sounds exactly what it spells, and a and an o and yeah i understand "ni hao" is pretty much said as "ni how", but usign that example doesn't really jive with the english word "sow", being pronounced differently than "how". the best you can do for a phonetic is "curasao" , which is goddman close to how it's already spelled it doesn't have the light N sound like they have in brazil though right? portugese speakres clearly shift it ever so slightly toward "san", there's an N hidden in their O lol
No respect need be given. Wrong is wrong. English speakers have "façade" too, cedillas are important. It's painful to listen to Barry repeating that error even as a Filipino (ie aware of Spanish/Portuguese language conventions).
I love these mystery hunt formats! Id say it's because i have fun playing along, but that'd be a big fat lie, it goes right over my head, all if it lol but I do love the back-engineering analysis, brainstorming, and discoveries that happen. And this, as Mike said, is fascinating to think about how dishes are even created in the first place - and to learn about completely new subjects. Great vid, excited for the series!
when you mentioned "thing cooked with a cheese wheel", it also reminded me of that trend where people make a divet in a cheese wheel and build a fondue inside it where it also acts as the bowl, then they pour pasta in to make a (mac-n-cheese? kind of)
Super silly comment. I believe the correct pronunciation is ‘Curazao’. Also, thanks for letting me know about Aruba’s cuisine. This looked amazingly good!
LOVE this as a new format and hope it's the launch of a new recurring series! Was absolute magic seeing Ebbers and Jamie put their food knowledge together and actually nail the presentation of the dish seemingly spot-on. Cannot wait to learn about more countries and see everyone working out and learning some really interesting dishes

See, I've been wondering what to do with all this Gouda I've had in the fridge. I think I know. (FYI it's supposed to be pronounced more like how-duh, cause G makes a h sound because Dutch).
@@SortedFood Most people don't. You used the basic anglicized pronunciation which is common place. The only reason I know is my grandmother is from the Netherlands. The cheese actually gets it's name from a town there where it was supposedly invented.
I annoy several acquaintances by repeatedly noting that cooking is really a simple matter. Just find something you like and then mix stuff with it. From there the combos are endless. I think this video is a great example of that.
I love this concept! I don't know what I would have done with the information you were given. I think I enjoy it even more because I see how much fun you guys had making it!
Very excited with this new way to make things- stuff it INTO cheese! That is amazing. Some of the recipes that come from leftover bits and bobs can be the most delicious and innovative ones.

cringed a little bit everytime i heard "cure a cow"
There's a Czech film from the 40s, one of my favourite comedies, where a character very carefully pronounces it, trying to impress it on another character, so I have that drilled into me and also cringed a bit every time I heard their pronunciation, feeling a bit like "You should know that... oh, wait, you don't". 😅 (Am Czech, if that wasn't obvious.)
I love this format, cooking new things from places I have never heard of, Awesome!
This idea is genius. I love that the first challenge is from a country we know so little about here in Europe. The dish looks delicious, I'd love to try it someday.
I love this new format. Ebbers joy at the end is eclectic
Absolutely loving that you are going for the historical facts and tidbits too. Very enlightening
That blooper was so funny and sweet! Of course, the dish was awesome, too! You guys are just so much fun and so much heart, I can’t get enough!
That was really fun, I love this new format. Quick question though, can we see a return of London's Best and/or Mystery Night Food Challenge? Those were some of my absolute favorites and I'd love to see what's out there post-lockdown.
Genuinely one of your best videos. No overreliance on the food team, just purely a pair of mates coming together to make a dish (mostly) blind.
What an awesome concept to break out of your comfort zone and any expected norms - and doing it alphabetically, QI-style!.... Fry will be proud 🙏
Wow! Amazing deduction! Looks seriously delicious. Fun format.
This reminds me of Chris Morocco on the Bon Appetit channel doing his recreation of mystery dishes after tasting them but not seeing them. In those, he guesses how he would grade himself along the way and then learns about the actual dish at the end and gets his own score. A similar structure for the progress and final reveal would be fun here 😊
OMG I’m 70 years old and come from Wisconsin farmers I have never seen anything like this. It looks fantastic. Well done
Easily one of the best videos, and concepts in a while. Curveball idea would be to do this pass it on style, with a few bullet point facts about the dish given out by janice at the start. Really love this and can't wait to see what happens with the Brunei dish next time.
I LOVE this new format! Once again I'm reminded that Ben is a real chef 😂
Kudos on this idea. I think it would be cool incorporate some guest chefs with this.
Very cool. Amazing that such a dish exists. Love that this channel is exposing me to dishes I probably never would have come across otherwise.
I loved this format. I'd say it would be fun to hide what the dish is supposed to be from the audience until the reveal so we're guessing along with the guys.
I love that cute hug near the end, what a wholesome crew you are. 🥰
If ever there was something I wanted to reach into the screen to try. Great format and a cracking start. So hungry now!
Would love to see the comparison between the actual dish and the one you make!!
Well done Ben and Jamie. Didn't even know what it was supposed to look like, knocked it completely all out of the ballpark! Also, love Jamie's reaction when he seen they made it correctly!
Being Dutch and having friends who are from Aruba, I’m so curious to see how this turns out.
Let us know what you think 👀
Spoiler alert!
@@SortedFood I think you nailed it on looks and it looked tasty. 👍🏻
Me too... I have relatives there.
Ja, het ziet er degelijk uit voor iets waarvan ze niet wisten hoe het eruit moest komen!
I'm in love with this format! Can't wait for the other 25!
With all due respect, it's Curaçao, with the last syllable pronounced pretty much like "Sao Paulo".
Yes, it’s pronounced CURE-a-sow
I really hope if they're going to continue doing international cuisine they take a little time to learn some key pronunciation of words that come up multiple times an episode, it's not difficult to find on UA-cam.
@@jrbtubestop "sow" is wrong, you're not inferring a long o vowel here,
the last 2 letters sounds exactly what it spells, and a and an o
and yeah i understand "ni hao" is pretty much said as "ni how",
but usign that example doesn't really jive with the english word "sow", being pronounced differently than "how".
the best you can do for a phonetic is "curasao" , which is goddman close to how it's already spelled
it doesn't have the light N sound like they have in brazil though right?
portugese speakres clearly shift it ever so slightly toward "san", there's an N hidden in their O lol
Great vid, excited for the series!
when you mentioned "thing cooked with a cheese wheel", it also reminded me of that trend where people make a divet in a cheese wheel and build a fondue inside it where it also acts as the bowl, then they pour pasta in to make a (mac-n-cheese? kind of)
If I'm not mistaken, that pasta dish is called Cacio e Pepe ^^
@@Oberky Yes, it's an Italian dish done in a wheel of parmigiano reggiano.
Super silly comment. I believe the correct pronunciation is ‘Curazao’. Also, thanks for letting me know about Aruba’s cuisine. This looked amazingly good!
Such an exciting new idea for keeping yourselves open to learning and trying new dishes! Awesome job lads!
Loved the hug at the end! This one was really FUN to watch!
Correction: It’s ‘Koo-ra-s-ow’, not ‘Koo-ra-cow’. The cedilla under the ‘c’ makes it an ‘s’ sound.
I was about to comment this! My Dutch speaking heart broke hahahah
Came here to see if anyone else pointed it out.
@@uribove I’m a French tutor. I was just a little hurt lol
@@stone5against1 Haha there is a reason why I comment a lot lol
@@stone5against1 half of the comments are at the time i post this
this is the best series y'all have come out with in a minute!! cant wait for more
This might be the start of my favorite sorted series
LOVE this as a new format and hope it's the launch of a new recurring series! Was absolute magic seeing Ebbers and Jamie put their food knowledge together and actually nail the presentation of the dish seemingly spot-on. Cannot wait to learn about more countries and see everyone working out and learning some really interesting dishes
Probably my favorite format ever made on this channel, what an absolutly brilliant idea, keep at it and let's see if we really make it all the way to Z
It may take a while 😂
I do love Ben and Jamie together. They compliment each other so well and are so fun to watch.
See, I've been wondering what to do with all this Gouda I've had in the fridge. I think I know. (FYI it's supposed to be pronounced more like how-duh, cause G makes a h sound because Dutch).
Thank you, we didn't know that.
@@SortedFood Most people don't. You used the basic anglicized pronunciation which is common place. The only reason I know is my grandmother is from the Netherlands. The cheese actually gets it's name from a town there where it was supposedly invented.
@@SortedFood Also Curacao is pronounced kur-uh-sau. Not like cure-a- cow
No, it does not lol. It's pronounced with a pretty hard 'G'.
This was the single most wholesome video sorted has ever done and it is beautiful.
Curaçao is pronounced KU-ruh-sau/KYOUR-uh-sau, either way the ç makes an S sound not a K sound.
I annoy several acquaintances by repeatedly noting that cooking is really a simple matter. Just find something you like and then mix stuff with it. From there the combos are endless.
I think this video is a great example of that.
Guys, the second c in Curaçao should be pronounced like an s. 😉
literally scrolled through to see if anyone corrected them yet.
@@CharleyCarey it’s sort of a running joke. The pronunciation of mille feuille on this channel is also 💯
Thank you 😀Surprised they hadn't heard of the liqueur
I love this concept! I don't know what I would have done with the information you were given. I think I enjoy it even more because I see how much fun you guys had making it!
I love this idea. Whenever i think of different global cuisine Aruba never, ever pops into my head and i'm cheesed to be learning about it.
Very excited with this new way to make things- stuff it INTO cheese! That is amazing. Some of the recipes that come from leftover bits and bobs can be the most delicious and innovative ones.
I love this video. It was nice to see Ebbers not being the "expert" and learning, while the "normals" know what it is supposed to look like. I like all your videos, but I especially look forward to more of these! Great job guys!! Oh, and great job Ebbers and Jamie you guys nailed it!!!
Absolutely love this new format! It was both fun and educational! Please do more!
