  • A quick little video of replacing a head gasket on a Saab 9000, car had lot of miles and had overheated, head gasket was blown along with some pitting and warping of the head. We sent the head out to machined then fixed up the car and sent it on it’s way.
    This is a one owner car😱 he loves his car and has owned it since new everyone does there own thing some may have scrapped the car some may have fixed it. So he will get a lot more years of driving this car now no scrap yard for this Saab!

    Here in Australia and I think your efforts are great keep it up. Please more of these videos, very instructive. I own several 9000's and I crave any info that is available. Cheers :-)

    Retiq, good video. Two questions, on the 2002 9-5 B235R engine, is there a SAAB recommended mileage interval for timing chain replacement? Also, for the 2006 9-3 B284 2.8L V6 engine with the sealed AF40 6-speed transmission Do you know of a recommended mileage interval for transmission fluid renewal? I could not find this information in the owners manual or in the SAAB WIS manual. Thanks.

      timing chain on 95 B235R - basically when you can already hear it (well, maybe not you but mechanic). In Europe people preventatively change it when they open engine for like head gasket or so, because much work is already getting done. Or preventatively between 2 and 3 hundred tounsands kilometers.
      For transmissions I believe people tend to change the oil latest at 60 000km. /some really do 30k/.

      yhird timing chain hopefully never have to change iv seen cars with 300k and haven’t had chain done it’s a big expensive job... and if u don’t know if ur v6 had fluid changed I’d change it, it doesn’t hurt to have it done

      @@Retiq Thanks Retiq. As a rule of thumb I change the transmission fluid in my 9-5's every 60,000 miles. I figure that will probably be a safe interval for the 9-3 as well. Cheers.

      yhird that’s good that u even care to do it, a great step and keeping ur car nice, some people who don’t care and wouldn’t change fluid if I told them it was mud

    Does it matter if its a 97 CSE turbo ? Because my 9000 model will need the head gasket replacement soon

      @@Retiq the head gasket seal does it matter what model year the car is or is it pretty much all the same for the 9000 models

      @@jean45ful I can’t rember but I would try and search online for ur specific car..but there all pretty similar and Ik when people build these cars u can swap some heads and blocks... and cams fit pretty much all models so I can’t imagine there crazy different..

    B234 from a 9000 is a predecessor to B235 from a 95 or a Viggen :) so the engines are similar. People like to retrofit the engine block from 9000 to 95 (while still using 95 T7 head and stuff) because it can handle more power and should not warp that much as 95 engine can...
    Engine bay has a little bit different setup as such, but the engine is very much almost the same.

      Peter Chomanič yeah I own a 900 still have to a video on showing the car in detail but it’s a ng 900 with 9000 block and some goodies here and there

      @@Retiq 9000 b234 and ng900 b204 have the same block, different name. What is different is crank, rods and pistons. Because bore is the same, only movement of pistons makes the difference between 2.0 and 2.3, so it is easy change mostly. Of course there can also be bugger mitsu turbo swapped to ng900 too, instead of t25.

    I have a 1997 900 se turbo. I'm trying to replace the head gasket but I'm stick at trying to get the camshafts aligned. Do you have any advice about that? Does the entire engine have to be removed just to get the camshaft timing correct again?

    • @Retiq
      @Retiq  5 років тому +1

      Mark W have engine on top dead center the crank pulley has a mark and so does the timing cover align that then alight camshaft gear marks with marks on cam cap covers exhaust first then there 15 spaces between the first cam and the Second timing mark on cap/cam gear...all timing marks should line up
