  • Anthony Murphy discusses the writing of James Fergusson (1872) about Loughcrew and the excavations that had been carried out there by Meath man Eugene Conwell in the 1860s. While there is considerable value to this account, one of the great tragedies is that so many of the cairns were excavated - and stripped of material - that little has been left for modern archaeologists, who with their improved techniques are much better positioned to allow a full interpretation and dating of that material evidence.

Been to Loughcrew before Newgrange, quit a walk to get up there and to get the key was a chore, BUT......WELL WORTH IT! I liked this place more so then NG, it has more character and no where as "madeup" if you will. Anthony THANKS for the videos and keep them coming, so you ever going to tell us what/who you think was buried in Loughcrew....:)

Anthony at 0:48 you mention the possible connection with whom might be buried at cairn T and you said that you would do a video to discuss it. I can't find that video, would you please give me the link. Thanks, keep up the good work it's an ancient land we stand upon and our history is extraordinary.

Would love to see the entire collection. Does the museum still have them? The iron chisel is interesting and raises questions about how old they really are.
